A+very+nice+camp+located+on+Shaver+Lake%2c+this+camp+offers+many+activities%2c+a+decent+waterfront%2c+and+okay+food%2e+The+staff+were+okay+but+not+overly+well%2drehearsed+or+enthusiastic%2e+The+overnight+canoe+trip+was+a+bore+with+no+pre%2dplanned+activities+except+the+twenty%2dminute+float+over%2e+Still%2c+one+of+the+better+camps+overall%2e+%2dSteve+Martin%2c+Scoutmaster%2c+Troop+555%2c+Las+Vegas+Area+Council%0d%0a

WOW+this+is+one+of+the+best+camps+that+i+have+gone+to%2e+I+have+gone+for+the+last+4+years+and+they+have+great+scout+program%2e++great+water+Act%2e+Nice+views+from+tents%2e%0d%0a

Beautiful+location+and+lake%2e++Camp+was+very+crowded+%28600+scouts%29+and+the+lake+was+too+cold+for+swimming%21+Knock%2dyour%2dbreath%2dout%2dof%2dyou+cold%2e++Surrounded+by+the+lake%2c+but+it+was+against+camp+rules+to+get+in+the+water+except+at+the+official+waterfront+%2d+very+frustrating+for+the+scouts%2e++A+very+dusty+camp%2e+Warm+days%2c+very+cold+some+nights%2e+Food+was+about+what+you+might+expect%2e++%0d%0a

Beautiful+place%2e++Fresh+air%2c+great+lake%2c+full+of+activcities+for+all%2e+Long+day%2e+Staff+nice+and+friendly%2eGood+meals+in+dining+hall%2e+Dining+hall+with+full+meals+made+better+when+they+went+to+buffet+style%2e++%0d%0a

There+are+many+reasons+we+as+a+Troop+have+chosen+Chawanakee+for+the+past+6+out+of+9+years+for+our+summer+camp%2e+Most+campsites+are+right+on+or+close+to+the+lake+%28true%2c+no+swimming+anywhere+but+waterfront%29%2c+so+bring+your+fishing+poles%21+Many+new+improvements+at+camp+and+in+the+next+coming+years%2e+Compared+with+other+camps%2c+the+location+is+top%2dnotch%2c+the+food+is+average+for+camp+food%2c+the+facilities+are+mixed+%28some+old+buildings+and+some+new+upgrades%29%2c+the+restrooms+are+the+newer+concrete+pit+and+shower+facilities%2c+and+although+a+little+too+few+for+the+size+of+the+camp%2c+I%27ve+heard+that+they+are+installing+more+within+the+next+year+of+two%2e%0d%0aDepending+on+when+you+go+to+camp+will+determine+the+coldness+of+the+lake+and+overnight+temperatures+obviously%2e+We+were+there+during+16%2d23+of+July+this+year+and+water+was+pleasant%2e%0d%0aStaff+and+Director+were+excellent%2c+with+many+members+returning+year+after+year%2e%0d%0aOnline+Merit+Badge+signups+through+their+website+is+a+real+plus%2e%0d%0aRob+Herr%2c+Scoutmaster+Troop+665%2c+Simi+Valley%2e+%0d%0a

I+have+led+a+travel+contingent+from+our+Troop+to+a+camp+outside+our+San+Diego+Council+every+year%2c+so+we+have+experienced+a+lot+of+camps%2e+We+attended+Chawanakee+in+2011+with+20+scouts%2e+This+is+by+far+the+WEAKEST+camp+we+have+been+to+in+the+last+20+years%2e+Beautiful+location%2c+but+the+camp+was+poorly+run%2e+It+started+at+check%2din+which+was+unorganized%2e+The+food+was+mediocre+and+inadequate%2e+The+staff+ate+hot+left+overs+every+day+while+we+ate+mostly+cold+sandwiches+in+the+campsites%2e+I+had+3+vegetarian+scouts+whose+only+choice+for+lunch+and+dinner+EVERY+day+was+a+veggie%2dburger+or+cold+cheese+sandwich%2e+Merit+badges+were+poorly+taught+and+not+up+to+the+requirements%2e+%28examples%3a+horsemanship+had+a+mule+and+a+donkey%2d+but+no+horses%29%2c+sailing+only+spent+an+hour+on+the+water+in+a+week+and+qualified%2e%29+The+waterfront+had+only+2+staff+monitoring+at+free+time+%28not+to+BSa+safe+Swim+regs%29%2e+The+scouts+voted+NOT+to+come+back%2e+Sadly+disappointed%2e+A+total+farce+of+a+camp%2e%0d%0a
