Camp+Frank+G%2e+Lumpkin+is+one+of+the+newest+Boy+Scout+camps+in+the+USA+%26+is+one+half+of+the+Chattahoochee+Scout+Reservation+%28which+also+includes+the+primitive+weekend+Camp+Gallant%29%2e++This+camp+took+over+an+unfinished+state+park+directly+on+the+huge+West+Point+Lake%2e+It+is+a+first+class+facility+with+top+notch+facilities%2e++Now+in+its+3rd+year+of+operation+%28in+2001%29+the+camp+is+one+of+the+few+in+the+state+to+be+able+to+offer+real+Lake+Water+Skiing%2e++%0d%0a%0d%0aIt+has+begun+to+attract+troops+from+surrounding+councils+as+well%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aThe+new+Camp+Frank+G%2e+Lumpkin+camp+was+made+possible+as+the+council+spun+off+several+other+camps+that+were+either+being+encroached+upon+by+development+or+were+never+fully+utilized%2e++Funds+from+the+sell+of+those+properties+has+allowed+this+council+to+build+a+camp+with+excellent+facilities+and+year+round+use%2e%0d%0a%0d%0a

Our+Troop+has+attended+Camp+Lumpkin+for+3+of+the+3+years+it+has+been+open%2e++It+is+a+beautiful+facility%2c+but+it+has+real+problems%2e++Meals+are+inadequate%2c+non%2dnutritional%2c+of+low+quality+and+quantity%2e++The+Troup+County+Health+Department+has+been+called+on+numerous+occassions+due+to+the+lack+of+cleanliness+and+proper+food+storage%2e++Our+Troop+has+had+to+supplement+the+meals+with+food+of+our+own%2e++Programs+are+marginal+at+best%2e++A+low+paid+staff+has+resulted+in+a+very+high+annual+turn+over%2e++No+continuity+from+year+to+year%2e++Maintenance+is+sub%2dpar+with+grass+and+and+weeds+in+constant+need+of+mowing%2e++Inadequate+waterskiing+equipment+supplemented+by+Troops+during+the+week+that+they+attended%2e++We+continued+to+support+this+in%2dcouncil+camp+as+each+year%2c+promises+are+made+for+vast+improvements%2e+Very+few+have+taken+place%2e%0d%0a

Chattahoochee+Scout+Reservation%2dCamp+Lumpkin+%0d%0aProgram+was+good+except+that+the+first+year+program+had+too+many+boys+for+the+amount+of+staff%2e+Facilities+were+good%2e+Nice+Swimming+pool%2c+nice+bath+house%2c+excellent+dining+hall%2e+Food+was+lacking%2e+Not+enough+food+and+the+nutritional+value+was+nonexistent%2e+We+were+told+that+this+would+be+fixed+next+year%2e+The+same+thing+was+said+last+year%2e+%0d%0a

Camp+Lumpkin+in+about+to+enter+its+6th+year+of+operation%2e++Many+changes+have+occured+over+the+last+several+summers+to+make+it+the+premier+summer+camp+location+in+the+South%21++The+previous+two+comment+were+written+about+the+2001+camp+season%2e++Yes%2c+there+were+difficulties+with+the+food+service%2e++But+starting+in+2002%2c+the+council+hired+the+services+of+King%27s+Table+Catering+from+Montgomery%2c+Alabama%2c+to+provide+our+food+service+at+camp%2e++The+owner+came+to+camp+and+stayed+all+summer+to+supervise+and+cook+the+meals%2e++He+and+his+kitchen+staff+did+a+fantastic+job%21++We+received+no+complaints%21++That+same+year%2c+we+started+serving+family%2dstyle+eating%2e++Everyone+loved+it+because+all+the+campers+ate+at+the+same+time+and+were+usually+out+of+the+dining+hall+in+about+20%2d30+minutes%2c+instead+of+maybe+45%2d60++minutes+waiting+using+cafeteria+style+eating%2e+The+owner+is+a+volunteer+leader+in+Montgomery+and+has+20+%2b+years+in+the+food+business%2e+He+returned+for+the+2003+camp+season+and+again+there+were+no+complaints%21++We+are+glad+he+is+returning+for+the+2004+camp+season%21%21%21++Come+check+out+his+food%21++Your+Scouts+and+leaders+will+be+very+satified%21%0d%0a++++Our+camp+program+has+improved+since+the+2001+season+as+well%2e++We+have+hired+more+staff+to+handle+the+greater+attedance+of+troops%2e+Each+year+we+continue+to+have+increase+attendance%2e++For+the+2003+season%2c+we+camped+1008+youth+and+adults%2e+More+staff+members+are+returning+for+another+season+of+camp%2e++Each+year+our+staff+salary+budget+has+increased+to+hire+more+staff+and+pay+them+better+wages%2e+For+the+2003+season%2c+we+had+the+use+of+a+professional+ski+boat%2e++And+for+the+2004+season%2c+we+have+bought+that+same+boat%2c+to+be+used+to+enhance+our+water+skiing+program%2e++We+have+made+to+additions+to+the+original+structures+at+camp%2e++For+the+2002+season%2c+we+constructed+a+new+Health+Lodge%2e++For+the+2003+season%2c+we+built+a+new+40+foot+climbing%2frapelling+tower+for+our+COPE+course%2e++In+the+upcoming+year%2c+we+will+build+a+new+%22Cub+Scout+World%22%2c+but+it+will+be+used+for+Boy+Scout+summer+camp+as+well%2e++Plus%2c+we+will+have+a+new+campsite+built+for+the+2005+season%2e+++++%0d%0a++++About+a+year+and+half+ago%2c+we+hired+a+new+camp+Ranger%2e++He+was+hired+because+of+his+great+attitude+of+service+to+the+troops+and+his+technical+knowledge%2e++He+is+a+very+conscious+about+keeping+the+grass+cut+and+keeping+the+camp+looking+good%21%0d%0a+++We+invite+your+troop+to+attend+Camp+Lumpkin+this+summer%21++Please+call+me+at+the+council+office%2c+%28706%29327%2d2634%2c+ext%2e+19+and+ask+for+David+Gregory%2c+Council+Program+Director%2e%0d%0a

We+just+returned+from+Camp+Lumpkin%2e+It+is+beautiful%21++The+staff+is+friendly+and+responsive%2e++%0d%0a%0d%0aThey+immediately+provided+water+after+being+advised+that+at+least+three+program+areas+had+no+water+and+they+provided+ice+at+campsites+after+the+Wednesday+night+leader%27s+meeting%2e++Additionally%2c+they+provided+assistants+to+the+hiking+class+after+we+notified+them+of+problems+in+the+hiking+class+for+first+year+scouts%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aHowever%2c+Camp+Lumpkin+does+not+appear+to+have+uniform+policies+and+procedures+for+instructor+selection+and+they+lack+procedures+for+handling+inappropriate+staff+behavior%2e++For+example%2c+we+addressed+several+problems+with+an+instructor+in+the+first+year+scout+program+%28hiking%29%2e++These+problems+included+improperly+handling+a+knife+during+class%2c+inappropriately+disciplining+first+year+scouts%2c+and+sexual+comments+by+the+hiking+instructor+yet+he+was+never+removed%2e++After+being+supplemented+by+adult+and+scout+staff%2c+this+individual%27s+flippant+remarks+continued+regardless+of+who+was+present%2e++We+were+later+told+by+staff+personnel+that+this+individual+was+almost+fired+in+week+2%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aThe+food+was+good+but+the+chef%2c+Mr%2e+Al%2c+does+not+wear+gloves%2e++I+saw+him+handling+food+without+gloves+while+filling+serving+bowls+and+plates+with+hamburgers%2c+sandwiches%2c+and+chicken+fingers+and+I+saw+him+throw+hamburgers+across+a+table+to+scouts+requesting+seconds%2e++%0d%0a%0d%0aThe+family%2dstyle+eating+with+table+waiters+from+each+troop+works+extremely+well%2e+However%2c+on+2+occasions+Mr%2e+All+announced+that+seconds+were+being+offered+on+a+%22first+come%2dfirst+served%22+basis%2e+This+led+to+several+scouts+rushing+to+the+kitchen+to+get+seconds%2e++This+unsafe+practice+should+be+discontinued%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aThe+Health+Lodge+is+a+beautiful+facility+however%2c+the+woman+running+it+was+busy+caring+for+her+child%2c+often+unavailable+during+advertised+times%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aThe+COPE+course+is+beautiful+and+appeared+to+be+led+by+a+superb+team%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aCamp+Lumpkin+presents+itself+well%2c+it+is+a+beautiful+camp+and+the+staff+is+superb%21%0d%0a%0d%0a

I+wish+I+had+read+the+comments+before+sending+my+sons+to+this+camp%2e+It+just+confirmed+our+feelings+about+this+camp+from+the+point+of+reservation%2e+This+camp+should+NOT+allow+staff+members+who+behave+unappropriatly+around+children+to+remain+here%2e+Within+5+minutes+of+picking+our+children+up+we+were+instantly+told+of+the+foul+mouthed+cook+named+AL+and+apparently+this+camp+does+not+care+about+the+staff+that+they+have+as+I+can+tell+from+the+previous+comments+that+he+is+a+problem%2e+We+will+not+be+recommending+this+camp+to+anyone%2e+It+has+been+4+weeks+since+my+sons+went+to+this+camp+and+still+no+signs+of+their+merit+badge+information%2e+It+doesn%27t+matter+how+beautiful+of+a+camp+you+have+if+it+is+poorly+managed%2e++%0d%0a

I+thought+I+would+give+my+unique+perspective+being+the+Director+of+the+Handicraft+Merit+Badge+area+during+most+of+the+summer+camp+program+in+2009%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aThe+campus+for+the+camp+itself+is+at+a+beautiful+location%2e+Like+any+camp+of+it%27s+size%2c+Camp+Lumpkin+has+some+campsites+that+are+quite+a+walk+away%2c+so+send+in+reservations+early+to+get+a+good+camp+site%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aIt+is+also+important+to+make+reservations+early+because%2c+the+camp+was+frequently+overbooked%2e+That%2c+combined+with+the+fact+that+the+front+office+was+highly+unorganized+was+a+recipe+for+disaster%2e+Troop%27s+registration+paperwork+was+lost+on+several+different+occasions%2e+There+was+even+a+loud+dispute+between+one+scoutmaster+and+the+camp+director%2c+Rodney+Brundidge%2c+about+whether+the+troop+had+paid+yet+or+not%2e+The+scoutmaster+had+a+receipt+of+payment+from+the+camp%2c+but+was+not+shown+in+the+records+to+have+paid%2e+Confirm+your+paperwork+and+payment+have+not+been+displaced+before+leaving+for+camp%21%0d%0a%0d%0aI+am+proud+of+the+work+of+the+merit+badge+staff+and+of+my+team+of+teachers%2e+Everyone+I+talked+to+seemed+impressed+with+this+aspect+of+the+camp%2e+The+staff+at+the+COPE+course+was+especially+motivated+and+enthusiastic%2e+The+merit+badge+program+was+a+large+success+despite+its+challenges%2c+due+to+the+enthusiasm+of+the+staff+and+the+genuine+desire+to+teach%2e+In+my+opinion%2c+there+was+not+enough+training+for+the+staff+before+camp+got+started%2c+and+the+expectations+of+certain+roles+were+unclear%2e+The+counselors+I+was+assigned+had+little+knowledge+of+the+material+at+the+beginning+of+staff+week+and+did+not+have+enough+time+to+learn+the+material%2e+The+merit+badge+directors+were+given+virtually+no+training+on+how+to+run+an+area+or+even+what+was+expected+of+them%2e+This+proved+problematic+on+several+occasions%2e+%0d%0a%0d%0aAdditionally%2c+the+camp+staff+was+ruled+on+the+basis+of+fear%2c+yelling%2c+threats%2c+and+aggression%2e+Rodney+Brundidge+would+threaten+his+staff+with+being+fired+on+almost+a+daily+basis%2e+During+the+day+he+would+frequently+ride+by+my+area+on+his+golf+cart+giving+the+counselors+and+I+suspicious+and+accusational+stares+without+provocation%2e+He+would+sometimes+also+throw+in+a+hand+sign+saying+%22I%27m+watching+you%22+or+the+slit+the+neck+sign%2e+This+would+happen+whether+class+was+going+on+or+not%2e+He+would+often+come+over+to+the+merit+badge+area+to+pull+my+counselors+away+from+their+classes+so+that+he+could+yell+at+them%2e+This%2c+obviously%2c+is+very+disrupting+to+the+class+being+taught%2c+takes+up+time%2c+and+down+plays+the+authority+of+the+counselor%2c+making+the+class+harder+to+control%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aThere+was+a+lot+of+talk+from+Rodney+about+doing+a+better+job+than+had+been+done+in+previous+years+and+putting+out+a+new+image+for+the+camp%2e+Not+much+else+was+really+done+about+that+from+what+I+can+tell%2e+He+asked+the+area+directors+for+suggestions+about+how+to+improve+things%2c+but+he+never+really+considered+them%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aAll+of+the+area+directors+were+asked+to+do+a+detailed+inventory+during+staff+week+%28which+is+time+that+should+be+spent+training+their+teachers%29+and+to+make+a+detailed+list+of+supplies+needed%2e+I+was+hired+to+be+the+Director+of+the+Handicraft+Area+without+any+experience+working+summer+camp%2e+When+I+was+making+a+list+of+supplies+needed%2c+I+was+not+sure+about+the+quantities+needed+for+some+supplies%2c+so+I+asked+for+some+assistence%2e+Rodney+sent+over+one+of+the+instructors+from+another+area+who+had+served+in+my+position+last+year%2e+He+told+me+to+not+worry+about+that+stuff+because+no+one+pays+attention+to+it+anyway%2e+He+also+told+me+some+scoutmasters+like+to+come+with+their+boys+to+watch+the+merit+badge+classes+to+make+sure+we+were+all+up+to+standard%2e+He+told+me+that+these+scoutmasters+would+often+ask+questions+or+try+to+clarify+a+point%2c+and+that+if+that+was+to+happen+i+should+%22put+them+in+their+place%2e%22+I+only+mention+this+because+that+is+what+the+motivation+level+is+like+for+most+of+the+returning+staff%2e+Anyway%2c+I+thanked+him+and+ignored+him+on+both+accounts%2e+I+made+a+detailed+list+of+supplies+needed+to+the+best+of+my+abilities%2e+Rodney+was+very+specific+and+proclaimed+very+loudly+we+should+be+as+exact+as+possible+so+that+he+did+not+have+to+buy+additional+supplies%2e+Throughout+the+entirety+of+camp+I+never+got+in+all+of+the+supplies+I+needed+or+requested%2e+Until+the+third+week%2c+none+of+the+boys+able+to+work+on+the+pottery+merit+badge+beyond+reading+in+the+merit+badge+pamphlet%2e+We+did+not+receive+any+clay+until+halfway+through+the+last+day+of+classes+of+the+third+week%2e+The+next+monday%2c+the+rotating+plate+used+to+make+most+of+the+pots+broke%2c+so+the+boys+taking+that+class+were+only+able+to+read+from+the+book+and+make+pinch+pots%2e+That+same+day+I+informed+Mr%2e+Rodney+about+the+platform+being+broken+and+he+told+me+not+to+worry+about+it%2c+that+he+would+get+it+fixed+and+try+to+make+do+with+what+I+had%2e+Several+days+later%2c+nothing+had+been+done+to+remedy+the+situation%2c+so+I+politely+enquired+about+the+platform+being+fixed+and+received+a+similar+response%2e+Even+though+I+asked+about+it+several+more+times+throughout+the+camp%2c+the+platform+was+never+fixed%2e+That+whole+summer+less+than+a+handful+of+boys+were+able+to+completely+earn+the+pottery+merit+badge%2e+Additionally%2c+my+pottery+instructor+was+yelled+at+by+Rodney+and+got+into+serious+trouble+because+so+little+boys+finished+the+merit+badge%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aAdditionally%2c+there+was+some+unethical+finances+going+on+at+camp%2c+including+one+set+of+orders+I+regret+following%2e+I+should+have+told+Mr%2e+Rodney+%22No%22%2c+there+on+the+spot%2c+but+I+had+a+moment+of+weakness+and+obeyed+the+orders+given+to+me%2c+comprimising+my+integrity+in+the+process%2e+All+of+the+merit+badges+in+the+handicraft+area+require+specific+kits+to+complete%2e+These+kits+contain+everything+a+boy+needs+to+complete+the+merit+badge%2c+save+the+actual+manual%2e+The+cost+of+these+kits%2c+are+added+to+the+price+of+summer+camp%2c+if+a+boy+signs+up+for+the+class%2e+During+staff+week%2c+when+I+should+have+been+allowed+to+prep+my+team+like+the+other+area+directors%2c+Mr%2e+Rodney+Brundidge+ordered+me+to+take+apart+the+kits+for+the+woodcarving+merit+badge%2c+and+to+take+out+the+whetstones%2e+I+was+then+to+give+him+the+whetstones%2e+Unfortunantly%2c+I+did%2e+I+later+learned+he+was+reselling+the+whetstones+in+the+camp+store+even+though+the+campers+had+already+payed+for+them+once+before+summer+camp%2e+Inevitably%2c+I+ended+up+teaching+the+woodcarving+merit+badge+using+my+own+whetstone%2c+so+the+boys+would+not+have+to+buy+them+again%2c+even+though+Mr%2e+Brundidge+told+me+several+times+to+encourage+the+boys+to+go+to+the+trading+post+and+buy+them%2e+He+also+made+the+boys+in+the+basketry+class+buy+the+3+kits+needed+for+the+merit+badge%2e+During+the+first+week%2c+I+had+one+student+in+the+basketry+class%2c+and+when+he+told+me+that+the+camp+had+already+charged+his+parents+for+the+kits%2c+I+felt+so+horrible%2c+I+bought+his+kits+with+my+own+money%2e+The+next+week%2c+thankfully+nobody+took+the+class%2e+In+the+third+week%2c+however%2c+we+were+swarmed+with+kids+taking+the+basketry+merit+badge%2e+I+started+to+buy+everyone%27s+kits%2c+but+I+did+not+have+enough+money%2e+I+feel+truely+horrible+about+that+incident+still%2c+and+wish+I+had+just+told+him+no+at+the+time%2c+and+gotten+fired+right+there%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aAll+staff+have+to+wear+class+As+to+meals%28which+I+considered+a+good+thing%29%2c+but+at+all+other+times+throughout+the+day+had+to+wear+camp+staff+t%2dshirts%2c+with+scout+shorts+and+a+hideous+orange+camp+bandana%28fine%29%2e+The+issue+was+that+the+camp+only+issued+2+staff+shirts%2e+It+is+incrediblely+hot+outside+during+the+summer+%28obviously%29+and+everybody+sweats+a+lot%2e+The+staff+is+so+overworked+during+the+week+that+they+do+not+have+enough+time+to+do+laundry+except+on+their+one+day+off+a+week%2e+This+leads+to+a+very+dirty+and+nasty+smelling+camp+staff%2e+%0d%0a%0d%0aThe+grounds+keeping+was+kept+to+a+standard%2c+though+most+of+the+physical+labor+was+relegated+one+of+the+crew%27s+severely+mentally+disabled+son%2e+I+became+friends+with+him%2c+and+he+frequently+came+to+my+station+showing+signs+of+massive+dehydration+and+heat+exhaustion%2e+Since+all+of+my+instructors+were+busy+teaching%2c+and+he+trusted+me+more+than+he+did+other+people%2c+I+gave+him+lots+of+water+and+physically+aided+him+walking+to+the+camp+health+lodge%2e+The+camp+health+lodge+was+run+by+good+hardworking+and+highly+qualified+staffperson%2c+though+I+can%27t+remember+his+name%2e+I+immediately+returned+to+my+position%2e+Rodney+was+there+waiting+for+me+looking+very+upset%2e+I+got+yelled+at+in+front+of+my+instructors+and+the+boys+by+Rodney+for+a+good+10+minutes%2e+Apparantly%2c+I+was+supposed+to+let+a+mental+handicapped+young+man+suffering+from+heat+exhaustion+walk+accross+the+campus+to+the+health+lodge+by+himself%2e+We+were+frequently+told+to+not+worry+what+anyone+else+was+doing+outside+of+our+box+and+continuously+told+to+not+look+outside+of+the+box%2e+%0d%0a%0d%0aThe+January+22%2c2004+post+sounds+a+lot+like+the+changes+the+camp+was+promising+to+improve+upon+in+the+upcoming+year%2e+The+camp+does+serve+food+in+the+family+style+dining+method%2e+The+volunteer+leader+is+no+longer+there%2c+though+an+equally+motivated+food+director+was%2e+The+sentence%2c+%22More+staff+members+are+returning+for+another+season+of+camp%22+did+not+ring+true+for+me%2e+Most+of+the+staff+was+composed+of+workers+working+summer+camp+for+the+first+time%2e+Not+that+many+staff+work+the+camp+more+than+once%2c+and+those+that+do+are+generally+pretty+laid+back+and+uncaring%2e+%22Each+year+our+staff+salary+budget+has+increased+to+hire+more+staff+and+pay+them+better+wages%2e%22+This+sentence+is+even+more+innacurate%2e+The+camp+was+severly+understaffed+before+having+most+of+the+camp+workers+quit+or+get+fired%2e+The+pay+we+were+given+was+calculated+between+%241%2e50%2d%242%2e00+per+hour%2c+depending+on+favoritism%2c+for+merit+badge+counselors+and+about+%242%2e50+an+hour+for+area+directors%2e+The+current+minimum+wage+is+%247%2e25+an+hour%2e+They+can+legally+pay+us+that+little+because+we+are+classified+as+volunteers%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aThe+behavior+of+the+instructor+on+the+July+18%2c+2004+comment+sounds+a+lot+like+behavior+issues+found+in+the+director+of+the+first+year+scout+program+area%2e+This+individual+was+one+of+the+staffers+who+had+worked+camp+in+previous+years%2e+Mr%2e+Rodney+is+not+very+descriminatory+about+his+staff%2e+I+would+venture+he+could+not+afford+to+be+because+of+the+horrible+conditions+and+mistreatment+of+the+staff%2e+Mr%2e+Al+did+not+work+the+kitchen+this+past+summer%2c+so+that+is+no+longer+the+problem%2e+The+kitchen+staff+they+have+are+wondeful%2c+but+are+understaffed+and+underfunded%2e+In+beginning+weeks%2c+the+kitchen+director+worked+hard+to+make+food+nutritional+but+was+consderably+limited+due+to+the+budget+she+was+allowed%2e+A+week+or+two+into+camp%2c+her+budget+got+further+cut+resulting+in+her+only+being+able+to+put+out+food+like+hot+dogs+and+tater+tots%2e+The+kitchen+sometimes+had+shortages+of+food+because+the+kitchen+staff+was+told+to+expect+less+scouts+then+had+arrived%2e+I+would+recomend+bringing+supplementary+food+for+your+troop+in+case+of+budget+cuts+or+additional+miscounts+of+people+at+camp%2e+The+health+lodge+is+an+attractive+little+shack%2c+and+is+run+by+a+different+person+then+they+are+referring+to%2e+The+man+running+the+lodge+was+available+at+all+posted+hours+and+even+responded+to+a+few+incidents+I+brought+to+him+after+hours%2e+He+was+very+professional+and+kind+and+went+above+and+beyond+his+duty%2e+The+COPE+course+is+indeed+beautiful+and+was+composed+of+many+returning+staff%2e+The+COPE+and+high+adventure+team+%28the+same+group+runs+both%29+are+very+energized%2c+enthusiastic%2c+and+motivated%2e+They+are+full+of+spirit+and+did+a+lot+to+keep+up+the+morale+of+the+rest+of+the+staff%2e+The+dining+hall+is+a+beautiful+facility+and+the+whole+campus+is+ful+of+awe+inspiring+beauty%2e+This+summer+camp+is+very+good+to+go+to+only+if+your+troop+is+meticulous+in+their+record+keeping+and+comprised+of+older+boys+who+are+planning+to+do+COPE%2c+high+adventure%2c+or+who+just+want+to+do+their+own+thing+and+check+out+the+beauty+of+nature%2e+All+other+troops+need+to+stay+away+from+the+summer+camp+at+Camp+Lumpkin%2c+until+it+is+under+new+management%2e+It+is+highly+disorganized%2c+badly+run%2c+and+sometimes+downright+dishonorable%2e+%0d%0a%0d%0aI+am+an+Eagle+Scout+who+stayed+with+the+program+several+years+after+earning+Eagle%2c+and+helped+create+a+successful+troop%2e+I+love+the+Boy+Scouts+of+America+and+all+it+stands+for%2c+but+as+long+as+the+camp+is+headed+by+Rodney+Brundidge%2c+it+is+a+poor+example+of+what+the+BSA+is+really+about%2e+After+my+experiences+with+this+camp%2c+I+took+a+year+to+step+back+and+process+what+had+happened+in+a+rational+manner%2e+I+tried+to+make+this+as+rational+and+logical+as+I+could%2c+so+that+I+could+write+this+as+accurately+as+possible+and+not+just+as+hateful+junk%2e+%0d%0a%0d%0a

Hello+again+everybody%2e+This+is+the+Eagle+Scout+who+posted+on+May+6%2c2010%2e+I+am+posting+because+I+noticed+that+Camp+Lumpkin+is+no+longer+run+by+Rodney+Brundidge%2e+It+seems+to+be+run+by+a+Mr%2e+Adam+Van+Stedum+now%2c+so+hopefully%2c+he+will+run+things+much+better+than+his+predecessor%2e+I+would+be+interested+to+hear+from+people++to+see+how+the+camp+is+doing+with+its+new+management+%0d%0a

Just+got+back+from+Camp+FGL+after+attending+week+2%2e+I+wish+I+had+read+these+comments+before+so+I+had+the+opportunity+to+discourage+the+kids+from+making+this+selection%2e+Several+areas+of+concern+and+I+will+grade+the+camp+on+a+letter+bases%2e%0d%0aDining+Hall+D%2d%0d%0aDining+Hall%2dThe+food+service+is+a+major+issue%2c+they+only+serve+grits+for+breakfast+and+very+little+else%2e+The+food+is+served+family+style%2c+but+there+is+no+one+in+the+kitchen+directing+the+scouts+on+what+they+should+have+for+their+table%2e+Very+disorganized+which+lead+to+a+lack+of+food+for+several+units+as+other+units+picked+up+their+portions%2e+The+equipment+provided+that+was+used+to+clean+up+after+the+meal+consisted+of+dark+murky+water+with+old+rags+thrown+in+them%2e+Needles+to+say+we+purchased+Lysol+wipes+for+our+Troop%2e++%0d%0aCOPE++++A%2b%0d%0aOne+of+the+bright+spots+of+this+camp+was+the+climbing+program%2e+Patrick+the+director+was+very+diligent+in+ensuring+that+everyone+understood+the+safety+measures+needed+as+well+as+ensuring+they+completed+the+merit+badge%2e%0d%0aArchery+++++F%0d%0aThe+instructor+was+rude+and+vulgar%2e+When+we+went+to+check+out+some+of+our+scouts+for+the+whitewater+rafting+trip+he+refused+to+let+them+go+and+proceeded+to+drop+about+12+F+bombs+on+our+adult+leaders%2e+He+was+reported+to+the+Camp+Director%2c+but+nothing+was+done+about+his+behavior%2e+%0d%0aCanoeing++++++F%0d%0aThe+instructor+in+this+class+literally+told+our+scouts+that+he+did+not+feel+like+getting+wet+today+when+they+asked+him+about+completing+a+requirement+on+Friday%2e+He+had+them+play+cards+instead%2e+%0d%0aSwimming++++++++C%0d%0aI+have+never+been+to+a+camp+where+scouts+did+not+complete+the+swimming+merit+badge%2e+%0d%0aShooting++++++++A%0d%0aTom+runs+a+great+program%0d%0aCounselors+++++++D%0d%0aMost+counselors+were+not+interested+in+teaching%2ctheir+apathy+trickled+down+to+the+scouts%2e+++There+was+one+counselor+for+the+Cooking+and+Personal+Fitness+Merit+Badge+that+had+the+scouts+playing+Rape+Tag%2e+That+same+scout+was+also+confronted+by+our+scout+leaders+as+he+was+walking+a+1st+year+scout+out+of+the+dining+hall+back+to+our+campsite%2e+When+asked+about+it+he+stated+well+you+saved+me+a+trip+to+your+site+thanks%2e+%0d%0aFacilities+++++++B%0d%0aWe+had+campsite+7%2c+despite+it+being+real+far+from+the+dining+hall+and+all+the+activities+it+was+a+great+site+once+we+cleaned+up+all+the+cots+that+were+scattered+throughout+the+site%2e+%0d%0a1st+Year+Program++++++B%0d%0aWhile+our+1st+year+scouts+said+they+learned+a+lot+there+is+no+proof+they+did+anything%2e+Apparently+no+records+were+kept+and+no+books+were+signed+to+tell+us+what+was+completed%2e+%0d%0aOverall%2c+it+is+sad+to+say+that+we+will+never+return+to+this+camp%2e+This+camp+has+the+potential+to+be+the+cream+of+the+crop+given+it%27s+location+on+West+Point+Lake%2e+It+is+situated+in+an+ideal+place+and+the+sites+are+great%2e+Alas+it+is+hard+to+overlook+all+the+issues+that+continue+to+plaque+this+camp%2e+Overall+grade+is+a+D%0d%0a%0d%0a+%0d%0a%0d%0a
