Camp+Manchester+is+a+wonderful+facility%2e+They+do+have+a+great+COPE+course+and+the+aquatics+program+is+pretty+good%2e+Unfortunately%2c+in+my+experience+%28+5+consecutive+years%29they+seem+to+attract+some+very+immature+counselors%2e+In+2005+the+Program+Director+and+Camp+Director+were+both+21+years+old%2e%2e%2enot+a+lot+of+experience+to+run+a+Camp+of+this+size%2e+Camp+RCM+is+run+by+our+council+and+we+are+planning+to+camp+outside+of+council+this+year%2e%2e%2efor+what+that%27s+worth%2e%0d%0a

In+2005+The+Camp+Director+was+Laura+Scott+and+I+assure+you+that+see+was+older+than+21yrs+of+Age%2e++%2d%2d%2d+Council+Staff%0d%0a

It+has+been+a+sad+commentary+to+see+the+decline+of+Scouting+in+western+Kentucky%2e++At+one+time+Land+Between+the+Lakes+was+a+national+Boy+Scout+High+Adventure+Base%2c+much+like+Philmont%2c+Northern+Tier%2c+and+the+Sea+Base+are+today+then+that+was+gone%2e++Bankrupt+little+councils+kept+collapsing+and+changing+their+names+and+running+into+IRS+problems+until+till+finally+there+are+only+three+Kentucky+based+councils+today%2e++%0d%0a%0d%0aWe+had+the+National+Scout+Museum+in+Murray+and+that+too+was+moved+out+of+the+state+%28Murray+KY+is+kind+of+secluded%2c+very+far+from+the+nearest+Interstate+Highway%29%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aCamp+Gunther+Hogg+has+been+auctioned+off+and+all+we+have+left+today+is+a+council+in+Owensboro+that+covers+a+hige+chunk+of+the+state%2c+is+cash+strapped+and+unable+to+capitalize+on+the+tremendous+assetts+of+Camp+Roy+C%2e+Manchester+which+has+rotting+boats%2c+tents+that+are+in+poor+condition%2c+and+has+not+had+major+investments+in+years%2e++%0d%0a%0d%0aWhen+Shawnee+Trails+Council+goes+under+and+this+camp+closes%2c+there+will+be+nothing+left+at+all+of+Scouting+in+Western+Kentucky%2e++I+wish+there+were+someone+out+there+who+could+save+our+council+and+camp+before+we+loose+everything%2e%0d%0a%0d%0a

I+had+to+respond+to+this+last+post%2e++Camp+Manchester+is+alive+and+starting+to+thrive%2c+they+just+recieved+14+new+22ft+Catilina+sail+boats+and+are+in+the+process+of+putting+in+a+new+dock+system+there%2e++It+had+some+rough+times+but+now+it+is+on+the+rebound+and+the+new+Ranger+there+is+a+real+go+getter%2e++Sure+there+are+always+room+for+improvement%2c+but+this+camp+is+definately+headed+in+the+right+direction%2e%0d%0a

Camp+Roy+C%2e+Manchester+is+a+very+good+camp+if+your+unit+is+interested+in+any+of+the+many+aquatics+programs%2e++It+has+access+to+Kentucky+Lake%2c+one+of+the+largest+man%2dmade+lakes+in+the+eastern+US%2e++There+is+an+Adventure+Sailing+program+featuring+4+new+Catalina+25+foot+yachts%2c+two+older+yachts%2c+and+a+new+pontoon%2e++At+the+camp%2c+there+are+3+modern+ski+boats%2c+a+dozen+new+kyaks%2c+12+canoes%2c+motor+boats%2c+row+boats%2c+and+more%2e++There+are+also+new%2c+modern+Catalina+14%2e2+ft+boats%2c+and+AmeicanSail+14%2e6+ft+boats+and+the+American+Sail+Aquafins+for+the+small+boat+sailing%2e++The+camp+is+now+kept+in+good+shape%2c+though+some+of+its+facilities+are+a+bit+older%2e++Most+sites+now+feature+permanent+metal+roofed+pavilions%2e++Two+sites+offer+cabin+camping%2e++Two+sites+offer+platforms+for+tents%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aThis+past+season+the+camp+added+muzzle+loading+rifle+to+its+shooting+sports+program%2e++The+archery+range+was+also+equipped+with+all+new+bows%2c+arrows%2c+and+targets+last+season%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aThe+council+intends+to+put+in+a+new+COPE+coarse+and+is+considering+a+climbing+and+rappeling+program%2e++There+are+also+plans+to+aquire+standard+wall+tents+for+most+sites%2e++In+the+long+term+there+are+major+capitol+improvement+plans+in+the+works%2c+though+with+the+economy+as+is+those+may+be+delayed+a+bit%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aSeveral+of+the+above+comments+are+a+bit+off+target%2c+but+like+any+camp+or+council+there+is+room+for+improvement+in+certain+ways%2e++I+should+note+the+2009+staff+was+mostly+an+older%2c+experienced+staff%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aThe+July+27%2c+2007+post+reflects+both+some+real+problems%2c+but+is+not+correct+in+its+details%2c+for+example+it+makes+no+mention+of+Camp+Wildcat+Hollow%2c+a+1200+acre+property%2e++Nor+are+there+any+tents+at+RCM+to+be+rotting%2e++Futher%2c+its+account+of+the+LBL+High+Adventure+Base+seriously+exagerates+what+was+attempted+there%2e++Finally%2c+a+certain+individual+has+stepped+up+on+the+volunteer+side+to+make+major+investments+of+time+and+money+in+the+camp+and+council%2e++Other+individuals+are+trying+to+do+their+part+too%2e++%0d%0a%0d%0aThe+May+20%2c+2008+comment+is+also+a+bit+off%2e++There+are+four+Catalina+250+25ft+boats%2c+four+Catalina+14%2e2%2c+2+American+Sail+14%2e6%2c+and+6+American+Sail+Aquafins+for+our+new+sailboats%2e++There+are+also+2+older+yachts+of+over+20+foot%2c+and+one+older+sunfish+in+our+sailing+programs%2e++We+also+have+a+new+pontoon+boat%2c+and+two+new+ski+boats%2e++One+older+ski+boat+and+one+older+motor+boat+remain+in+program+use%2e++There+is+also+an+older+pontoon+used+as+a+work+boat%2e++Approximately+a+dozen+new+kyaks+are+also+available%2e++Approximately+a+dozen+older+two%2fthree+man+canoes+are+available%2e++There+is+an+assortment+of+old+and+new+row+boats+as+well%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aFormer+RCM+Staffer%2c+2004%2d2009%0d%0a

Camp+Roy+C%2e+Manchester+dates+back+to+1956%2e+Its+location+is+unmatched%2c+located+on+the+enormous+Kentucky+Lake%2e++Aquatics+and+fishing+is+top+shelf%2e++This+camp+is+steeped+in+Scouting+history%3a++the+birthplace+of+the+first+year+camper+program%2c+had+an+adjacent+BSA+high+adventure+base%2c+and+had+the+adjacent+BSA+Museum%2e++Since+its+inception%2c+it+has+drawn+out%2dof%2dcouncil+Scouts%2c+and+most+weeks+had+more+out%2dof%2dcouncil+than+in%2dcouncil+campers%2e++The+recent+shift+of+control+to+Louisville+provides+nothing+but+upside%2c+with+control+by+a+much%2dmore+financially+stable+council%2e+Also%2c+understand+that+many+older+negative+complaints+reflect+unhappiness+with+council+mergers+and+the+elevation+of+this+camp+over+other+camps+in+the+council%2fstate%2e%0d%0ahttp%3a%2f%2fwww%2elhcbsa%2eorg%2fCamping%2520and%2520Activities%2fFor%2520Boy%2520Scouts%2fSummer%2520Camp%2520at%2520Camp%2520Roy%2520C%2520Manchester%0d%0a
