Originally+opened+in+1926+as+a+scout+camp+it+was+one+of+Greenbar+Bills+Favorite+camps%2e+Once+operated+by+Dan+Beard+Council%2c+all+activities+at+Camp+Hook+have+been+canceled+and+the+camp+is+no+longer+available+to+Scouts+as+of+the+beginning+of+1997%2e+%0d%0a

Camp+Hook+is+now+part+of+the+Twin+Creek+MetroPark+under+the+auspices+of+Dayton+MetroParks+system%2e+Although+many+of+the+original+buildings+are+gone%2c+there+are+still+3+nice+campsites%28old+Apache%2c+Geronimo+%26+staff+cabin+area%2e+Staff+cabins+are+demolished%2e%29+designated+for+Scout+weekend+camping+with+tables+and+kybos%2e++Recent+work+has+been+done+by+the+park+to+keep+many+of+the+sections+of+the+old+Thunderbird+Trail+open+for+hiking%2e+This+trail+is+also+connected+to+the+trails+in+the+rest+of+the+park+north+of+Chamberlain+Rd%2e%2c+forming+a+nice+series+of+loops+from+easy+to+challenging%2e+Fishing+is+allowed+in+the+old+camp+pond%2c+the+fire+circle+has+been+semi%2drestored+and+the+parade+ground%28still+with+flag+poles+and+OA+%22compass%22%29+is+beautiful+and+well+maintained+as+is+Gardner+Lodge+%28used+by+local+Troop+572%29%2eThe+dedication+plaque+from+1926+is+still+there+and+nicely+maintained%2e+The+old+Chapel+still+exists%2c+though+in+disrepair%2e++It+is+erie+to+hike+past+the+rifle+and+archery+ranges+and+old+empty+campsites+but+the+landscape+and+woods+are+beautiful+and+it%27s+encouraging+that+scouts+can+still+use+the+facility+in+it%27s+current+%22natural%22+state+for+primitive+camping%2e+Reservations+are+handled+via+permit+through+Dayton+MetroParks%2e%0d%0a
