In+1919%2c+the+officers+of+Conewago+Council%2c+which+then+oversaw+Scouting+in+Hanover%2c+Littlestown%2c+New+Oxford%2c+Locust+Grove%2c+Abbottstown%2c+and+East+Berlin%2c+saw+the+need+for+a+Boy+Scout+camp+in+their+area%2e++Along+with+the+assistance+of+other+civic%2dminded+citizens%2c+the+council+solicited+funds+in+the+area+for+a+camp%2e++On+September+13%2c+1919%2c+they+purchased+approximately+25+acres+of+land+in+Hamilton+Township%2c+Adams+County%2c+from+George+T%2e+Gitt%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aThe+camp+is+located+at+the+%22Forks%22+where+the+Little+Conewago+enters+into+the+Big+Conewago+stream%2e++It+was+formerly+at+the+point+of+a+traders+cabin+where+the+collection+of+furs+and+trading+was+done+with+early+settlers+and+the+Conewago+Indian+Tribes+in+the+area%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aToday%2c+Camp+Conewago+is+still+blessed+with+many+of+the+original+buildings+constructed+over+the+years%2e++The+Lodge+was+built+in+1920+and+has+a+spacious+porch+on+the+front+and+one+side%2e++Inside+the+building+is+a+large+stone+fireplace%2c+kitchen+and+sleeping+area+equipped+with+bunk+beds%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aOther+sleeping+quarters+known+as+Rothrocks+were+built+after+the+first+few+years+of+the+camp%27s+operation%2e+The+name+%22Rothrocks%22+derived+from+the+Chairman+of+the+Department+of+Forest+and+Waters%2c+whose+name+was+Rothrock%2e++These+buildings+were+given+individual+Native+American+names+such+as+Seneca%2c+Mohawk%2c+Shawnee%2c+Sioux%2c+Delaware+and+Susquehannock%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aThe+Administration+Building+was+dedicated+on+August+1%2c+1937+in+memory+of+H%2e+Merle+Stokes%2c+Camping+Chairman%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aCamp+Conewago%2c+located+just+off+of+Dicks+Dam+Road+in+New+Oxford%2c+is+available+for+rental+year%2dround%2e++For+more+information+and+current+rates%2c+please+contact+the+council+service+center+at+%28717%29+843%2d0901+or+%28800%29+843%2d0901+outside+York%2e%0d%0a%0d%0a%0d%0a

We+stayed+in+the+Rothrocks+about+a+year+and+a+half+ago%2e++The+bathrooms+were+horrible%21++I%27m+surprised+they+could+get+away+without+having+Doors+on+stalls%2e+Especially+that+Youth+and+Adults+used+the+bathroom+%0d%0a
