Excellent camp, wonderful location, great high adventure opportunities for hiking, rock climbing, and white water. Good staff folks. New dining hall expected for 2001. Lake water is very cold, so don't expect high participation for aquatics. Good staff, decent Merit Badge programs: they test and this is not a "Merit Badge mill." If you come from the flatlands, you'll love the mountain scenery!

Attended+Camp+Daniel+Boone+i+July%2c+2000%2e++Food+was+below+average+for+summer+camps%2e++Several+merit+badge+counselors+told+me+they+were+instructed+by+camp+leaders+to+pass+everyone+%28after+personally+reviewing+several+merit+badge+programs+I+found+that+many+requirements+were+being+ignored%29%2e%0d%0a

We+went+in+June+and+had+a+very+good+experience%2e++Good+counselors%2c+good+high+adventure%2c+really+good+senior+staff%2e+And+the+scenery+can%27t+be+beat%2e%0d%0a%0d%0a

We+went+in+July+and+was+totally+turned+off+by+the+staff%2e++Camp+was+beautiful+however+that+did+not+make+up+for+all+that+it+was+lacking%2e++Food%2c+training%2c+etc+was+all+below+par%2e++No+one+seemed+to+know+what+was+going+on%2e++Campfires+were+a+source+of+embarassment%2e++Profanity+and+vulgarity+were+the+norm+at+all+three+gatherings%2e++Leader+input+were+not+received+well%2e++Patches+and+ribbons+were+only+handed+out+two+a+few+troops+rather+than+at+least+participation+ribbons+as+all+other+camps+did%2e++When+letters+were+written+to+camp+and+to+council+upon+our+return+we+never+received+a+reply%2e++We+will+never+go+back+and+tell+everyone+about+our+experiences%2e%0d%0a%0d%0a

Our+troop%2c+35+scouts+and+ten+adults+from+Florida%2c+enjoyed+our+mosquito%2dfree+July+%28week+five%29+stay+at+CDB%2e++We+really+loved+the+cool+mountain+air%2c+camp%2dside+gurgling+creek+and+blanket+of+trees%2e++We%27ve+summer+camped+at+CDB+in+1989%2c+1993%2c+1994%2c+1996%2c+1997%2c+2001+and+again+in+this+summer%21+This+place+is+Eden%2e++%0d%0a%0d%0aI+and+the+other+leaders+found+the+food+to+be+satisfactory+and+in+adequate+supply%2e++The+scouts+sure+did+not+complain%2e++The+cook+is+a+nice+young+man%2e++He+is+excited+about+attending+the+World+Jamboree+in+2003%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aStaff+at+a+summer+camp+can+be+a+real+challenge%3b+some+exceed+expectations%2c+a+few+do+not%2e++We+thought+the+%22Goin%27+Great%22+staff+was+first+rate%21%0d%0a%0d%0aWeak+areas+were+noted+early+on%2c+our+adults+volunteered+in+several+of+those+areas+of+need%2e++We+had+a+real+liberal+type+teaching+a+Citizenship+merit+badge%2c+he+really+stirred+things+up%2e++I+was+pleased+to+hear+the+scouts+challenge+him%2e++Now+that+took+some+real+%22Scout+Spirit%22%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aWe+enjoyed+the+Wookie+at+the+opening+campfire+and+the+Wednesday+OA+ceremony%2e++I+guess+I+forgot+about+any+cursing+in+the+programs%2e++The+closing+campfire+began+in+a+sprinkle+and+ended+in+a+cold+rain%2c+ugh%2e++I+saw+some+units+leaving+the+campfire+because+their+unprepared+leaders+had+not+brought+rain+gear%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aI+found+it+insulting+that%2c+during+prayer+and+flag+ceremonies%2c+late+arriving+units+%28both+scouts+AND+adults%29+marched+and+crunched+across+the+gravel%2e++What+were+those+dingbat+leaders+thinking%3f++But+I+guess+that+was+the+camp+staff%27s+fault%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aWe+had+issues+come+up+during+the+week%2c+if+they+were+significant+we+asked+for+help+and+got+it%2e++Dan+Boone+Council+is+relatively+small%2c+I+imagine+many+staff+take+vacations+following+summer+camp%2c+then+you%92re+looking+at+a+Cub+Scout+rallies+and+round%2dups%2e++Feedback%2c+we%92ve+sent+to+CDB+following+camp%2c+in+the+past%2c+was+not+only+replied+to%2c+but+resulted+in+changes+to+their+program%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aOur+troop+is+planning+on+complicating+things+by+trying+a+four+or+five+year+rotation+of+summer+camps%2e++Wish+us+good+luck%21++We+look+forward+to+our+return+to+CDB%2e++I+do+not+expect+the+above+comment+or+this+submission+to+change+much%2e++CDB+fills+up+fast%2c+every+year%2c+there+must+be+a+reason+besides+the+setting%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aYiS%2c%0d%0a%0d%0aScoutmaster%2c+Troop+288%0d%0aNorth+Florida+Council%0d%0a%0d%0a

My+troop+went+there+two+summers+in+a+row%2e+The+water+is+pretty+cold%2c+but+once+you%27ve+been+in+it+for+a+while+you+get+used+to+it%2e+I+know+because+I+took+the+Swimming+merit+badge+there%2e+There+are+a+lot+of+hills+that+get+really+annoying+walking+up+and+down+throughout+the+day%2e+I+really+like+Friday%2e+The+two+summers+we+were+there%2c+we+played+capture+the+flag%2e+I+really+like+the+beginners+program%2e+That+really+gave+me+a+great+start+with+boy+scouts%2e+Now+I+am+12+and+in+the+summer+before+7th+grade+and+I+am+about+to+be+a+life+scout%2e+The+program+gives+you+basically+everything+you+need+for+Tenderfoot+to+1st+Class%2e+Also%2c+if+you+like+soccer+you+will+love+this+camp+because+it+has+a+giant+soccer+field+that+everyone+plays+on%2e+The+also+have+volleyball%2e+This+place+is+a+good+place+to+take+any+merit+badges+except+for+any+water+ones%2e+It+is+also+a+great+place+for+white+water+rafting%2e+I+love+CDB%2e+if+It+was+sort+of+cold%2c+but+I%27m+from+South+Carolina%2c+The+Humid+State%0d%0a%0d%0a

Just+returned+from+CDB+%2d+We+had+two+groups%2c+one+going+on+the+high+adventure+and+one+that+stayed+at+basecamp+working+on+meritbadges%2e+Both+groups+had+a+great+time%2e+High+adventure+hike+was+very+tough%2e+5+of+the+17+came+back+early+either+sick+or+injured%2e+And+of+those+that+toughed+it+out%2c+most+felt+like+quitting+many+times%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aAt+basecamp%2c+the+staff+was+well+trained+%2d+qualified+instructors%2e+Food+was+%22OK%22+%2d+some+days+were+better+than+others%2e+Water+was+weay+too+cold+to+play+in%2e+51+degrees+I+was+told%2e+I+swam+the+%22Swim+test%22+and+passed+but+thought+I+was+going+to+die+after+I+got+out%2e+way%2dway+too+cold%2e+%0d%0a%0d%0aThe+scenery+is+majestic+%2d+beautiful+green+mountains+and+rocky+stream+that+puts+you+to+sleep+each+night%2e+No+mosquitos+%2d+spiders+and+other+critters+though%2e+It+rains+almsot+every+day+up+there%2e+Dont+bring+your+cell+phone+%2d+no+service+available+up+there%2e+%0d%0a%0d%0aTents+are+on+the+typical+wood+platform+%2d+the+tents+flap+open+if+needed%2e+bedding+is+on+sturdy+metal+frames+with+foam+mattress%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aI+didnt+think+there+was+much+to+do+for+leaders%2e+when+I+wasnt+walking+around+making+sure+my+boys+were+at+theior+classes%2c+I+was+board+on+the+lodge+porch+rocking+on+the+rockingchair%2e+%2d+Just+think+they+coulkda+done+a+bit+better+in+that+area%2e%0d%0a%0d%0abut+over+all+I%27d+recommend+CDB+%2d+great+scout+camp%2c+great+qualified%2dpersonable+staff%2c+great+weather+and+very+beautiful%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aB%2b+for+poor+aquatics%2e+%28dont+go+up+there+to+do+water+meritbadges+%2d+you+may+die+of+hypothermia%29%0d%0a%0d%0a

Just+got+back+yesterday+from+our+2010+summer+camp%2e+Our+troop+is+from+central+Florida+and+we+enjoyed+the+mountain+view%2e+%0d%0aThe+dining+facilities+were+nice+and+they+had+two+dining+rotations+%28early+and+late%29+to+relieve+the+long+waits%2e+The+staff+didn%27t+sing+fifty+songs+and+skits+before+dinner+which+was+nice%2e+If+possible+get+the+Arrowhead+camp+ground%2e+Also%2c+we+have+5+boys+do+the+lifegaurding+program%2e+Mr+Ward+was+excellent+but+the+water+was+64+degrees%2e%0d%0aTwo+of+us+took+the+Art+Loeb+trail+to+Cold+Mountain%2e+It+took+7+hours+and+we+went+up+%28and+down%29+at+least+4000+feet%2c+very+strenous+but+the+view+was+great%2e%0d%0aMy+only+complait+was+the+raining%2e+It+rained+at+least+half+the+time%2e+Also%2c+daddy+long+legs+are+everywhere%2e%0d%0a

Our+Troop+attended+CBD+for+the+first+session+June+7+%2d+13%2c+2015%2e++The+boys+had+a+great+time+and+Crazy+Steve+in+Scoutcraft+was+the+most+memorable+person+there%2e++Steve+is+very+knowledgeable+and+his+Asst%2e+Scoutmaster%2fScoutmaster+training+and+Intro+to+Outdoor+Leader+Skills+was+fantastic%2e+All+the+boys+know+who+Crazy+Steve+is+as+he+has+a+great+relationship+with+all+the+boys%2e++Merit+badges+were+terrific+and+the+boys+loved+going+up+to+Boonsboro+Village%2e+Be+prepared+to+walk+up+Cardiac+Ridge+to+get+there%2e++All+of+the+staff+members+were+pleasant+and+made+things+fun%2e+%0d%0aNow+for+more+info%3a%0d%0aSome+campsites+like+the+Powhatan+campsite+bathrooms+are+very+outdated+and+on+one+side%2c+there+is+not+a+toilet+seat+just+a+hole+cut+in+the+board%2e++No+separation+between+the+seats+except+for+a+board%2e+Boys+wouldn%27t+even+use+it%2e%0d%0aThe+food+is+good+but+an+adult+receives+the+same+amount+of+food+as+your+youngest+scout+so+make+sure+you+bring+food+to+supplement+or+you+are+going+to+be+hungry%2e++Sometimes+they+call+seconds+and+sometimes+they+don%27t%2e%0d%0aThen+on+Friday+%28June+12th%2c+2015%29%2c+there+was+an+outbreak+of+an+intestinal+virus+that+caused+the+Health+Department+to+quarantine+the+camp%2e+Staff+and+Health+Dept%2e+called+it+the+Norovirus%2e+Evidently+camp+staff+thought+they+had+it+under+control+on+Wednesday+but+they+didn%27t+and+never+issued+any+warning+to+the+Scout+Leaders%2e++Noticed+some+staffers+going+to+the+restroom+in+the+latrines%2c+were+coming+out+and+never+washed+their+hands%2e++Then+the+guys+would+walk+over+to+our+boys+and+would+work+with+them+on+their+merit+badges%2e++Brought+this+to+the+attention+of+senior+staffers+who+said+that+they+would+have+a+talk+with+their+guys%2e+As+soon+as+quarantine+was+lifted%2c+we+obtained+our+Health+paperwork+and+left%2e%0d%0aThe+camp+is+a+great+camp+except+for+the+sickness+part%2e++Need+to+adopt+better+hygiene+practices+and+bleach+cafeteria+after+every+section+eats%2e++Need+to+give+adults+%2d+adult+meal+portions%2e++Would+be+great+if+CDB+would+have+a+coin+operated+laundry+facility%2e%0d%0a%0d%0a+%0d%0a+%0d%0a
