Camp Sawyer is not actually on Big Pine Key, but on West Summerland Key (slightly to the East). The lat/lon map shows the correct location.
Camp+Sawyer+is+a+great+place+to+camp%2c+if+your+scouts+want+to+visit+key+west%2e++The+only+problem+is+that+the+coral+surrounding+the+beach+has+been+ruined+over+the+years+and+keeps+the+scouts+from+swimming+in+the+water%2e++There+is+only+one+small+designated+swimming+area+to+use%2e++Also+the+showers+are+very+primitive+and+it+only+gives+you+cold+water%2e%0d%0a
Our+troop+spent+a+family%2doriented+four+days+at+Camp+Sawyer+in+April+2004%2e+There+really+isn%27t+much+to+do+here%21++You+sink+up+to+your+knees+in+mud+when+walking+into+the+water+in+the+beach+area%2e++There%27s+a+dock+for+the+boys+to+jump+off+of%2c+but+the+many+large+rocks+surrounding+it%2c+including+where+the+boys+jump+into+the+water%2c+make+it+dangerous%2e++There+is+no+pool+at+this+camp%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aTo+the+left+of+the+dock+is+a+rather+large+rocky+area+%28it+may+be+coral%21%29+that+forms+tide+pools%2c+and+when+the+tide+goes+out%2c+little+fish+and+crabs+swim+around%2e++The+kids+enjoyed+hopping+from+rock+to+rock+to+check+out+the+marine+life%21%0d%0a%0d%0aThere+is+only+one+ladies+room+%28very+rustic%29%2c+and+it+includes+a+warm+shower%2e++The+boys%27+bathroom+included+several+showers%2c+but+they+were+all+cold%2e++%0d%0a%0d%0aThe+camp%27s+location+is+convenient+to+Key+West%2c+which+is+approximately+35+miles+south%2e++The+closest+grocery+store+was+a+Winn+Dixie%2c+and+was+only+about+a+15+minute+drive+southwest%2e++%0d%0a%0d%0aOur+troop+went+out+on+a+snorkeling+boat+one+day%2c+and+it+was+only+a+five+minute+drive+away%2e++Our+fishing+charter+boat+was+about+a+thirty+minute+drive+north%2e+Both+the+fishing+and+the+snorkeling+were+excellent%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aWe+pitched+our+tents+on+a+birm+right+near+the+water%2c+and+the+view+was+absolutely+beautiful%2e++Be+careful+if+pitching+a+tent+on+the+lower+ground%2c+as+it+gets+pretty+wet+and+muddy+after+a+rain%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aThe+sunrises+and+sunsets+were+breathtaking%21++It+was+also+fun+to+just+sit+back+by+the+water+and+watch+the+boats+go+by%2e++++%0d%0a%0d%0aCamp+Sawyer+does+not+have+a+Merit+Badge+Program%2e++There+are+no+on%2dsite+restaurants%2c+stores%2c+etc%2e++There+isn%27t+a+dining+hall%2c+Quartermaster%2c+etc%2e++There+is+running+water+at+each+campsite%2e++I+don%27t+recall+for+sure%2c+but+I+do+not+recall+seeing+any+electrical+hook%2dups%2e+%0d%0a%0d%0aThere+is+a+lot+of+yard%2darea+for+the+kids+to+play%2c+and+a+volleyball+net%2e++There+are+a+few+short+trails+thru+the+mangroves+%28a+wooded+area%29+that+the+kids+enjoyed+playing+%22manhunt%22+in%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aIf+you%27re+looking+for+a+no%2dfrills+campground%2c+you+may+want+to+consider+Camp+Sawyer%2e++++%0d%0a%0d%0a+%0d%0a
Camp+Sawyer+was+awesome+in+the+mid+%2d+late+80%27s%2c+when+I+was+a+scout%2e+The+water+was+great%2c+beautiful+grounds%2c+and+we+used+to+walk+to+a+near+by+bridge+for+fishing%2e+Good+memories%2e+Sad+to+hear+it+has+run+down%2e%0d%0a
