For+70+years+Scouts+and+Leaders+have+found+the+heart+and+soul+of+Scouting+in+the+top+of+the+Uinta+Mountains%2e+That+discovery+continues+in+2001+at+the+camp+above+all+others+%2d%2d+CAMP+STEINER%21%0d%0a%0d%0aThis+camp+is+located+in+Utah+but+the+mailing+address+is+out+of+Wyoming%2e++Because+of+that%2c+this+camp+is+listed+in+this+database+under+both+states%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aThe+Camp%3a+%0d%0aEstablished+in+1930+%0d%0aLocated+at+10%2c400+ft%2e%2c+just+above+Mirror+Lake+Hwy%2e+%0d%0aYour+choice+of+adirondack+cabins+or+tent+sites+%0d%0aLarge+crystal+clear+lake+%28almost+swimming+temp%2e%29+%0d%0aMountain+peaks+to+conquer+%0d%0aHikers+heaven+%0d%0aFishing+%0d%0aPerfect+trees+for+napping+under+%0d%0a%0d%0a
Because+of+the+elevation+this+camp+is+hard+on+young+boys+and+the+less+active%2e+Because+of+the+fact+that+it%27s+at+tree+line+the+camp+is+largely+composed+of+rocks%2e+Because+of+the+exposure+water+is+a+precious+comodity%2e+Because+of+the+location+this+camp+is+the+most+fantastic+camp+experience+you+will+ever+have%2e+No+power+no+telephone+it+is+a+survival+experience+that%27s+for+sure%2e+One+leader+has+been+to+this+camp+for+60+years+running%2e+I+can+highly+recommend+it+for+the+best%2e%0d%0a
The+water+is%2e%2e%2e+sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo+so+so+so+cold%2c+you+jump+in+and+your+lungs+feel+like+they+shrink+half+their+size%2e+Once+you+start+swimming+you%2c+barely%2c+start+getting+used+to+it%2e+It%27s+a+great+camp+because+there+is+many+places+you+can+just+explore%2e+It%27s+a+fun+camp%2c+the+staff+was+awesome%2e+%0d%0a
This+camp+is+the+best+the+Great+Salt+Lake+Council+offers%2e++Boys+learn+to+work+together+through+troop+activities+and+hardships%2c+earn+their+merit+badges%2c+and+will+remember+it+for+a+lifetime%2e++Not+only+is+Camp+Steiner+the+best+in+location%2c+but+it+has+the+best+staff%2e++Steiner+is+full+of+traditions%2e++The+Mountain%2dMan+Relay%2c+Mafeking%2c+Honor+Trail%2c+Polar+Bear+Plunge%2c+Pauls+Point+Dawn+Hike%2c+Hyrum%2e++Albiet%2c+the+water+is+cold%2c+but+that+is+the+best+and+the+worst+part+of+Steiner%2e++If+one+conquered+his+fears+in+that+lake%2c+it+would+forever+be+a+strength+to+him%2e++It%27s+a+magical+experience+for+scouters+old+and+young+alike%2e%0d%0a
Camp+Steiner+is+in+a+beautiful+location+in+the+high+Uintah+Mountains%2e+Elevation+is+about+10%2c500+ft%2e+The+fishing+is+decent+and+you+can%92t+beat+the+scenery%2e+I+took+my+Boy+Scout+Troop+there+in+2009+and+have+mixed+feelings+about+our+experience%2e+The+quality+of+the+staff+this+year+left+a+lot+to+be+desired%2e+I+understand+that+the+Great+Salt+Lake+Council+has+difficulty+finding+staff%2c+perhaps+this+is+a+problem+for+other+BSA+camps+as+well%2e+I+attended+some+of+the+merit+badge+classes+with+my+boys+and+wasn%92t+impressed+with+some+of+what+I+saw%2e+In+one+class+a+young+man+was+supposedly+teaching+the+class%2c+but+instead+of+teaching+he+was+half+asleep+telling+boys+who+had+questions+that+%93I+don%92t+know+that%2e%94+Fortunately%2c+one+of+the+leaders+from+another+Scout+Troop+was+an+expert+on+the+subject+and+was+able+to+help%2e+The+facility+was+in+some+disrepair%2c+but+upgrades+to+the+water+system+were+underway%2e+Parking+is+very+inconvenient+and+the+roads+to+the+campsites+are+pretty+rough%2e+There+were+rules+posted+that+everybody+had+to+park+in+the+parking+lot+after+they+dropped+their+gear+and+boys+off+at+the+campsite%2c+but+only+a+few+heeded+the+rule+and+the+staff+was+very+reluctant+to+enforce+many+rules%2e+As+a+result+leaders+had+SUVs+and+trucks+scattered+throughout+the+camp+making+navigation+very+difficult+at+best%2e+I+don%92t+have+plans+to+return+to+this+camp+anytime+soon%2e%0d%0a
