Our+troop+attended+camp+Hawkins+in+2004+%26+the+small+attendance+by+other+troops+was+disappointing%2e+Not+sure+if+this+is+due+to+the+council%92s+lack+of+support+monetarily%2c+advertising+or+because+the+camp+is+unable+to+support+the+same+type+of+programs+other+camps+provide+in+better+locations%2e+Some+improvements+of+covered+shelters+%26+one+covered+camp+site+have+been+built+%26+a+black+powder+range+will+be+built+for+2005%2e+We+didn%27t+find+the+same+motivated+staff+%26+there+was+considerable+noise+from+the+youth+staff+after+hours%3b+though+there+were+exceptions+such+as+the+trading+post+staff%2c+which+was+very+customer+oriented%2c+but+the+trading+post+did+need+more+items+to+support+the+merit+badge+programs+as+found+in+a+previous+comment%2e+The+lake+area+is+clean%2c+with+a+white+sand+beach+%26+clean+changing+rooms+if+you+beat+the+younger+scouts+down+there%2e+The+lake+is+a+muddy+brown+in+color%2c+though+a+great+place+to+be+during+a+hot+middle+Georgia+day%2e+The+food+was+great%2c+and+they+had+a+salad+bar+which+is+a+plus+these+days%2e++The+head+cook%2c+Robin+Mann+is+a+great+cook+%26+always+happy+in+100%2b+heat+of+the+kitchen+%26+camp+%26+everyone+enjoyed+all+her+meals%2e+These+are+not+precooked%2ffrozen+meals+pushed+into+a+convection+or+microwave+oven+as+found+at+other+camps+we%27ve+attended+in+the+past%2e+Her+meals+are+real+camp+chow+cooking%2e+You+can+actually+watch+your+scrambled+eggs+%26+bacon+be+cooked+on+a+grill%2e+A+very+good+buckskin+program+is+evident+%26+the+program+leader+runs+a+very+tight+ship+%26+maybe+just+a+little+too+tight+though%2c+but+still+a+very+good+program%2e+Overall+we+had+a+good+time+at+Camp+Hawkins+but+will+be+going+further+north+this+summer+to+a+cooler+climate%2e%0d%0a

I+have+visited+Camp+Ben+Hawkins+several+times+in+the+past+years%2e+Ben+Hawkins+is+a+small+camp+with+a+large+history%2e+After+Mr%2e+Mel+retired%2c+the+duties+of+Ranger+was+actually+turned+over+to+a++volunteer+staff+of+Camp+Masters+who+do+their+best+to+keep+up+the+facilities%2e+The+Echeconnee+Lodge+%28+O%2eA%2e%29%2c+Woodbadge+participants+and+staffers%2c+and+numerous+other+volunteers+give+of+their+time+to+help+keep+Ben+Hawkins+a+viable+choice+for+scout+camping+in+the+Middle+Georgia+area%2e+To+camp+at+or+visit+Ben+Hawkins%2cContact+the+Central+Ga%2e+Council+and+file+a+camping+permit+two+weeks+in+advance%2e+A+Camp+Master+will+meet+you+at+camp+and+try+to+help+with+any+needs+you+may+have%2e+My+troop+always+has+a+great+time+at+Ben+Hawkins%2e+This+is+a+camp+that+brings+the+scouts+back+to+the+true+meaning+of+being+outdoors+and+puts+them+in+an+environment+that+lacks+some+of+the+modern+conveniences+that+we+have+all+become+dependent+upon%2e++%0d%0a
I+HAVE+BEEN+GOING+TO+CAMP+BENJAMIN+HAWKINS+FOR+MANY+YEARS+%28BEEN+IN+SCOUTING+FOR+ABOUT+40%2e%29I+AM+SADDENED+THAT+SUMMER+CAMP+IS+NO+LONGER+HELD+THERE%2e+I+WAS+ON+STAFF+HELPING+STOCK+AND+RUN+THE+TRADING+POST+FOR+ABOUT+TEN+YEARS%2eWE+DO+HAVE+A+WELL+ATTENDED+WINTER+CAMP+FOR+THE+BOY+SCOUTS%2c+2+CUB+DAY+CAMPS%2c+A+WEBELOS+RESIDENT+CAMP%2c+FALL+FAMILY+FESTIVAL%2c+OA%2c+WOODBADGE%2c+CAMPOREES%2c+OUTDOOR+LEADER+TRAINING%2c+AND+OTHER+WEEKEND+ACTIVITIES%2e+THE+CAMP+IS+WELL+USED%2e+IT+IS+JUST+NOT+USED+FOR+SUMMER+CAMP%2e+MAYBE+THAT+WILL+CHANGE+SOON%2e++++%0d%0a
This+year+I+was+on+staff+and+had+a+great+experience%2e+The+campers+had+a+blast+and+so+did+the+staff%2e+We+put+in+a+new+cope+tower+and+made+some+major+renovations+to+the+shower+and+bath+houses%2e+Our+theme+for+the+2018+camp%2do%2dree+was+Knights+Of+The+RoundTable%2e+Our+current+camp+directors+are+Laura+Mixon+and+Wes+Funsch%2e+The+lake+is+looking+better+than+ever+and+I+just+want+to+thank+all+that+participated+in+this+camp+%0d%0a%0d%0a%2dEthan+Garretson+Camp+Ben+Hawkins+Staff+2018+%0d%0a
