We+just+got+back+from+a+week+at+Samoset+Council%27s+Tesomas+Scout+Camp%2e+We+had+a+great+week+at+camp%2e+All+the+boys+had+fun%2c+most+made+significant+strides+in+advancement%2c+nobody+got+hurt%2c+and+I+won+both+the+cobbler+cook%2doff+and+the+cribbage+tournament%2e+The+food+in+the+dining+hall+%28the+only+complaint+I+had+last+year%29+was+much+improved+this+year%2c+too%2e+In+filling+out+the+evaluation+form+I+had+a+difficult+time+thinking+of+areas+for+improvement%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aThere+were+several+out%2dof%2dcouncil+troops+there%2c+mostly+from+other+Wisconsin+Councils%2c+though+there+was+one+troop+that+came+all+the+way+from+Kansas%2e+It+was+interesting+hearing+their+point+of+view%2c+as+they+travel+to+a+different+camp+each+summer%2e+They+said+that+Tesomas+was+the+best+camp+they+had+ever+been+to%21+Yes%2c+we%27re+very+proud+of+our+camp+and+its+staff%2e+The+most+amazing+thing+is+that+they+had+never+heard+of+a+chilly+willy+before+%2e%2e%2e+imagine+that%21%0d%0a%0d%0aWe+signed+up+for+next+summer+and+hope+to+have+several+of+our+older+boys+participate+in+the+micro%2dtrek+program%2e+This+year%27s+micro%2dtrek+included+a+day+at+the+camp%27s+COPE+course%2c+a+day+at+a+nearby+high+ropes+course%2c+an+over%2dnight+trip+to+Devils+Lake+%28about+180+miles+away%29+for+rock+climbing%2c+and+a+day+of+whitewater+rafting%2e+Aside+from+the+over%2dnight+climbing+trip+the+scouts+are+back+in+camp+each+night+by+dinnertime+and+camp+with+their+troop%2e++The+boys+who+participated+this+year+had+a+great+time%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aAcross+the+lake%2c+at+Hanna+Venture+Base%2c+the+staff+reported+having+filled+six+of+the+eight+treks+for+this+summer%2e+There+were+three+different+options%0d%0aoffered+for+treks+this+year%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aThe+Northern+Trek+starts+with+two+days+of+backpacking+in+the+Porcupine+Mountains+of+Upper+Michigan%2c+a+day+of+climbing+on+the+rock+faces+near%0d%0aAshland%2c+WI%2c+and+two+days+of+sea+kayaking+on+Lake+Superior%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aThe+Southern+Trek+begins+with+a+day+of+caving+in+Southwest+Wisconsin%2e+On+day+two+the+crew+bikes+to+a+stable+for+some+horseback+trail+riding%2e+Day+three+and+four+are+spent+climbing+along+the+bluffs+of+Devil%27s+Lake+and+day+five+is+spent+at+a+Super+High+Ropes+Course+near+Lacrosse%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aThe+Whitewater+Trek+was+only+offered+one+week+and+the+whole+week+was+spent+kayaking+on+the+Flambeu+River%2e+Hanna+Treks+are+open+to+Scouts+over+age+14%0d%0aand+Venturers%2c+both+male+and+female%2c+and+are+lead+by+one+male+and+one+female+staff+member%2c+both+over+age+21%2c+so+no+adult+leadership+is+required+%28though+adults+can+go+along+if+they+want+%3b%2d%29%0d%0a%0d%0aSo%2c+that%27s+what%27s+going+on+at+the+Samoset+Council+camps%2e+Oh+%2e%2e%2e+chilly+willy+%2e%2e%2e+you+haven%27t+heard+of+it+either%3f+It%27s+a+little+like+water+polo%2c+only+it%27s+played+with+chunks+of+ice+instead+of+a+ball%2e+The+games+begin+at+6%3a00+a%2em%2e+by+special+arrangement+with+the+waterfront+staff%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aYiS%2c%0d%0aJim+Peterson+%2d+Scoutmaster%2c+Troop+379%2c+Blenker%2c+WI%0d%0a%0d%0a

I+have+been+a+Scout+leader+for+19+years%2e++My+troop+has+attended+5+different+camps+in+that+time%2e++We+have+attended+Tesomas+every+year+since+1995%2e++We+found+that+Tesomas+met+all+the+needs+we+were+looking+for+in+a+camp+and+more%2e++The+camp+staff+works+very+hard+to+make+the+Tesomas+experience+a+new+one+each+year%2e++That%27s+hard+to+do+but+believe+me%2c+there+is+something+fresh+about+the+camp+each+year%2e++The+camp+itself+is+just+beautiful+beyond+words%2c+and+I+really+mean+that%2e+From+the+center+piece+of+the+camp+%28Crystal+Lake%29+to+the+natural+camp+fire+bowl%2c+I+have+never+seen+anything+better+in+any+camp%2e++%0d%0a%0d%0aThere+are+so+many+thing+for+the+boys+to+do+that+the+hardest+part+of+camp+is+deciding+what+to+do%2e++Not+just+merit+badges%2e++Free+time+activities+and+night+time+activities+are+offered+every+day+and+they+are+high+quality%2e++The+options+offered+for+older+scouts+at+the+Hanna+High+adventure+base+%28part+of+the+scout+reservation%29+are+amazing%2e++Their+high+adventure+treks+rival+BSA%27s+own+high+adventure+bases%2e++I+know+because+I+have+been+to+all+of+them%2e++%28Philmont+still+wins+though%2e%29++%0d%0a%0d%0aThe+staff+is+very+accomadating+to+out+of+council+troops%2e+Again%2c+I+know+this+because+my+troop+is+one%2e+Once+you+have+been+there+you+become+part+of+the+Tesomas+family%2e++Oh%2c+did+I+mention+the+O%2eA%2e+ceremonies%3f++They+are+first+rate%2e++Tom+Kita+Chara+Lodge+is+there+every+week+and+the+tap+out+is+amazing+as+is+the+Ordeal%2e++The+guys+know+their+parts+exceptionally+well%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aBut+the+best+thing+about+the+camp+is+that+is+has+a+tradition+and+a+history+and+a+spirit+that+they+work+to+pass+on+each+year+to+new+campers%2e++It+lies+at+the+heart+of+the+quality+of+this+place+and+it+shows+in+every+thing+they+do%2e++If+you+decide+to+attend+this+camp+you+will+not+be+disappointed%2e++This+is+really+a+place+where+memories+of+a+life+time+are+made%2e%0d%0a

Extraordinary+camp%2e+Been+to+3+other+summer+camps+and+this+camp+has+the+best+staff%2c+food+and+facilities+of+any%21+Gorgeous+setting%2e+Amazing+OA+call+out+ceremony%2e+Scouts+and+leaders+really+enjoyed+bringing+bikes+along%2e+We+are+considering+going+here+from+Indiana+every+other+year%2e+Tesomas+just+gets+everything+right%2e+Well+worth+the+8+hour+trip%21%0d%0a

The+boys+have+chosen+this+%28out+of+council%29+camp+3+out+of+the+last+4+years+for+a+reason%2e%2e%2e+Camping+Truly+is+King%21++The+dining+hall+is+loud+and+fun%2c+fantastic+improvements+to+the+camp%2e%2e%2e+especially+the+fire+bowl+this+year%21%2c+great+variety+of+merit+badges%2c+MicroTrek+program%2c+OA+Call+Out%2c+and+fantastic+counselors%21%21%21++Troy+and+his+staff+do+a+great+job+running+the+camp%2e++If+Elvis+can%27t+fix+it%2c+it+can%27t+be+fixed%2e++Great+opportunities+for+adults+as+well%21%0d%0a
