Use fantastic Antietam website for info. Great sights, Civil War history, hiking on nearby Appalachian Trail, nearby Harpers Ferry, WV, in a rural setting. Easy access from Interstate 70.

Nearby (5 mi south of Sharpsburg) on the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal, the Park Service operates the Antietam Creek Youth Campground. Very nice; under tall trees along the Potomac river. Great basecamp for fishing, canoeing, hiking/bicycling along the 184 mile C&O Trail, or seeing the neighboring historical sites. Has pumped well water and clean port-a-johns. First come, first served.no reservations needed. Open year round. The site will easily accommodate about 5-8 Troop-sized units, though I've never seen more than 3-4 on site at a time.
