Great+Camp%2c+Troops+oppinion+is+that%27s+its+the+best+on+the+west+coast%2c+and+we+try+a+diffrent+one+almost+every+year%2e++Long+drive+for+us%2c+%28Northern+Nevada+area%29but+always+worth+it%2e%0d%0a
This+was+the+most+laid+camp+I+have+ever+been+too%2e+Chow+is+buffet+style+rather+than+family+style+with+a+waiter%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aThey+seemed+to+be+struggling+with+staff+but+I+have+heard+that+all+camps+are+struggling+here%2e+Still%2c+I+expect+better+even+if+they+have+to+cancel+some+classes%2e+Seems+the+traditional+MB+programs+suffered+most%2e+They+did+not+offer+cooking%2e+Orienteering+and+pioneering+provided+little+to+my+scouts%2e+I+end%2dup+doing+most+of+the+instruction+of+Environmental+Science+when+the+young+scout+drafted+to+instruct+went+a+decidedly+wrong+direction%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aThis+camp+could+be+a+fantastic+camp+with+better+utilization+of+surrounding+assets%2c+a+little+work+on+dust+control+and+new+KYBOs%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aMy+scout+all+said+they+do+not+want+to+go+back%2e%0d%0a%0d%0a%0d%0a
Our+Troop+was+VERY+displeased+with+the+whole+experience+we+had+at+camp+Baker+this+year+%282006+session%29%2e++They+were+very+understaffed%2e++A+lot+of+vandalism+and+theft+of+equipment+happened+the+week+we+were+at+camp%2e++Parents+had+to+step+in+to+run+programs+so+they+would+happen%2e++Our+Troop+had+the+feeling+that+the+staff+really+did+not+want+to+be+there%2e++Food+was+the+worst+we+have+had+at+any+summer+camp%2e++Was+not+that+good+and+there+seemed+to+not+be+enough+to+go+around%2e++The+food+portions+were+little+at+best%2e++Our+Troop+left+very+disapointed+in+our+experience%2e++Would+have+a+hard+time+recommending+this+camp%0d%0a
Our+Troop+%28out+of+council%29+visited+Camp+Baker+July+2007%2e+The+facilities+and+location+is+beautiful%2c+the+clmbing+wall+was+one+of+the+best+we%27ve+seen%2e+However+our+experience+with+program+and+staff+was+extremely+disappointing%2e+Meals+are+served+buffet+style%2e+Waits+in+line+for+every+and+I+do+mean+every+meal+were+never+less+than+20+minutes%2e+Some+meals+were+closer+to+30+and+one+was+greater+than+40+minutes%2e+I+would+like+to+say+that+the+last+sentence+was+an+exaggeration%2d+but+it+is+not%2e+The+food+quality+was+the+worst+our+Scouts+have+ever+seen+and+the+quantity+was+the+smallest+portions+we+have+ever+seen%2d+a+few+meals+were+simply+pb%26js+for+our+scouts+because+we+were+the+last+in+line+and+food+ran+out%2e+Never+any+reason+or+apologies+for+hungry+scouts%2e+Our+Troop+was+not+the+only+troop+sending+adults+to+town+for+food%2e+The+greatest+disappointment+for+me+was+that+the+local+Troops+had+no+complaint%2e+They+accepted+the+boring+long+waits+in+the+sun%2c+no+complaint+regarding+the+food%2e+It+is+as+if+this+is+all+acceptable%2e++Program+leadership+was+hit+and+miss%2e+Some+of+the+more+difficult+and+important+mbs+were+taught+by+exceptional+staff%2e+However%2c+art%2c+woodcarving+and+leatherwork+were+very+poor%2eI+have+never+seen+such+low+staff+morale%2e+I+am+used+to+seeing+a+camp+staff+that+is+working+as+a+happy+and+cohesive+team%2e+Our+experience+at+other+Scout+Camps+has+been+that+the+Staff+cared+abour+our+experience+and+worked+to+make+things+right%2e+Not+at+this+camp%2e+I+made+4+legitimate+and+polite+complaints+during+camp%2e+Each+time+I+was+given+excuses+or+blame+was+placed+on+the+Camp%27s+Adult+Troop+leadership+instead+of+solutions%2e+Our+Troop+signed+up+for+cleaning+the+Dining+Hall+after+a+meal%2e+Our+Scouts+were+given+one+set+of+ugly+dining+hall+cloths+and+ugly+soapy+water+and+were+told+to+clean+down+the+tables+and+the+bathrooms%2e+When+I+asked+where+the+cleaning+supplies+were+for+the+bathroom%2e+The+dining+staff+looked+at+me+like+I+was+crazy+and+told+me+that+what+we+were+given+was+all+they+had%2e+This+particular+complaint+I+skipped+with+the+Camp+Director+and+went+directly+to+the+Nurse%2e+I+figured+she+would+understand+and+if+she+didn%27t+if+anything+would+occur+she+would+be+feeling+the+consequences%2e+I+won%27t+be+able+to+get+our+troop+to+go+again%2e+However%2c+I+think+it+has+a+lot+of+potential+if+the+staff+and+management+were+different%2e%0d%0a
Honestly+all+I+can+say+about+Camp+Baker+is+since+2006+the+camp+has+been+getting+worse%2e+My+troop+has+finally+seen+that+there+is+no+improvement+going+on+even+though+the+Council+has+tried+changing+the+Management%2e+My+troop+attended+this+last+summer+%282008%29+To+find+staff+already+overworked+and+tired+by+week+three+there+where+only+three+people+cooking+for+the+camp+which+had+a+attendance+of+300+scouts+and+scouters%2e+The+one+real+set+back+I+had+for+the+whole+week+was+overhearing+the+camp+director+using+not+so+very+scout+like+words+towards+a+member+of+his+own+staff%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aAll+I+can+say+save+your+%24200+and+invest+it+into+a+camp+that+cares+about+what+they+provide%2e%0d%0a
I+was+a+participant+in+2005+and+returned+as+staff+in+2008+and+will+be+again+this+year%2e+Perhaps+I+am+not+the+most+qualified+to+speak+on+behalf+of+the+camp%2c+however%2c+I+certainly+can+say+that+Camp+Baker+%2d%2dand+the+council+as+a+whole%2d%2d+has+been+struggling+monetarily+for+several+years%2c+and+that+was+very+obvious+in+both+%2707+and+%2708%2e+Yes%2c+last+year+we+were+understaffed%2c+and+yes%2c+we+were+getting+weary%2c+but+also+we+did+our+best%2c+myself+doing+all+that+I+could+to+help+out%2e+Do+people+not+think+that+the+staff+suffers+as+well%3f+We+eat+the+same+grub%2c+we+use+the+same+equipment%2c+and+we+even+run+the+show%2e+I+even+agreed+with+campers+about+the+food+and+did+what+I+could+to+help+troops+and+their+leaders%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aThe+2009+season+is+set+on+a+higher+budget%2c+has+returning+veteran+staff+who+have+proven+their+worth+and+a+new+cook%2e+Things+look+well+for+this+year%2e+Honestly%2c+we%27re+striving+to+do+well%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aIf+someone+dislikes+the+camp+system%2c+don%27t+whine+about+it%3b+instead+take+the+opinion+to+the+right+place%3a+the+council+and+the+camp+execs+who+do+the+real+decisions%2e+Please+be+reasonable%2e%0d%0a
