Our+troop+attended+Flaming+Arrow+in+2003%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aIn+a+nutshell+we+had+a+miserable+time%2e+Some+of+the+blame+may+not+be+its+fault+due+to+poor+weather+but+we+just+weren%27t+that+impressed%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aFlaming+arrow%27s+strength+lies+in+the+enjoyable+aquatics+%2d+water+is+warm%2e+Doing+any+aquatics+there+is+a+joy%2e+Mile%2dswim%2c+Lifesaving%2c+BSA+LIFEGUARD%2e%2e%2e%2egreat+place+to+do+it%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aFood+was+good%2e+menu+was+good%2c+portions+were+healthy+and+dining+hall+was+organized%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aStaff+was+very+friendly+and+very+personable%2e+By+the+time+a+scout+leaved+FASR+they+will+know+a+bunch+of+the+staff+names+and+feel+as+if+they+know+them%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aUnfortunately+being+friendly+isnt+enough+%2d+Im+a+scoutmaster+and+sat+in+on+many+classes%2e%2e%2e%2eI+can%27t+say+they+were+all+sub%2dpar%2c+but+most+were%2e++For+the+most+part+they+practically+gift%2dwrapped+meritbadges+with+very+little+work+or+effort+from+the+scout%2e++They%27re+practically+giving+FREE+Environmental+Scince+Meritbadges+%2d+just+show+up%2c+no+work+needed%2e+heck%2c+often+times%2c+attendance+isnt+even+needed%2e%0d%0a%0d%0awhen+we+left%2c+none+of+us+%28scouts+%26+leaders%29+wanted+to+return%2e+%0d%0a%0d%0aGrade%3a+C%2d+%0d%0aI%27%3bd+would+be+a+D%2c+but+the+great+lakefront+raised+up+the+grade%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aTampa%2c+Troop+198%0d%0a%0d%0a

Our+son+has+attended+Flaming+Arrow+Scout+Reservation+3+times+in+the+last+two+years%282003%2d2004%2c%29+once+with+his+Troop+and+twice%2c+alone+as+a+provisional+camper%2e++I+must+report+that+he+had+a+wonderful+time+on+all+three+adventures%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aFirst+the+staff%3b+the+Staff+a+FASR+get+to+know+the+kids%2c+and+let+the+kids+get+to+know+them%2e++They+work+well+as+a+group+and+show+the+younger+Scouts+that+you+can+have+fun%2c+sing+and+tease+all+in+a+way+that+nobody%92s+feelings+get+hurt%2e++And+the+silly+camp+songs+they+teach+the+kids+are+priceless%2e++Kids+should+be+going+to+camp+to+learn+camp+songs+and+feel+like+they+are+a+part+of+a+team%2c+too+be+in+the+woods+and+play+%93Capture+the+Flag%94+in+the+dark%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aWe+don%92t+send+our+Scout+away+to+camp+simply+for+merit+badge+requirements%2c+it%92s+the+job+of+a+Scoutmaster+to+be+sure+that+a+boy+has+learned+what+needs+to+be+learned+for+a+merit+badge%2c+camp+is+for+fun%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aAs+parents%2c+when+you+walk+on+the+FASR+campus%2c+which+by+the+way+is+beautiful%2c+you+are+greeted+by+every+staff+member+with+a+smile%2c+a+very+polite+hello+and+a+%93may+I+help+you%3f%94++When+you+put+your+request+for+help+to+them+they+help+you%2c+or+if+they+cannot+they+find+another+staff+member+that+can%2e++As+you+walk+around+the+camp%2c+every+Scout+greets+you%2e++When+I+asked+our+son%2c+he+said+they+are+told+to+be+kind+to+one+and+other%2c+make+new+friends+and+be+sure+to+greet+each+other%2c+WOW+what+a+concept%2c+going+to+Scout+camp+to+make+new+friends%2e++And+from+what+I+see+it+works+very+well%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aFASR+offers+a+Scout+so+much+in+the+way+of+counselors%2c+water+sports%2c+beautiful+Florida+at+her+best%2c+campfire+program%2c+boating%2c+shooting%2c+silly+Scout+songs%2c+Indian+Lore%2c+patriotic+songs%2c+well+the+list+could+go+on+and+on%2c+but+I+will+say+this%2c+if+you+are+sending+your+Scouts+to+summer+camp+to+earn+merit+badges+than+you%92re+cheating+them+out+of+a+wonderful+tradition+and+wonderful+memories%2c+and+Flaming+Arrow+is+big+on+both+tradition+and+memories%2e++My+son+has+already+stated+he+will+return+to+FASR+next+year+no+matter+where+else+he+goes%2c+a+week+of+his+summer+will+be+at+FASR%2c+and+we+just+could+not+be+happier%21++Keep+up+the+good+work+Scouts%21+And+special+thanks+to+Pickles%2c+Tom%2c+Tom%2dTom%2c+Pauley%2c+James%2c+and+all+the+rest+of+the+staff+that+work+so+very+hard+and+do+an+A%2b+Job%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aThe+Martinson+Family%0d%0adrcmart%40bellsouth%2enet%0d%0a%0d%0a%0d%0a%0d%0a%0d%0a

I+had+the+honor+of+being+campmaster+when+my+troop+went+to+FASR+in+2000%2e+All+the+senior+leaders+and+boys+from+my+troop+went+to+Philmont+that+year+and+I+wanted+something+close%2c+but+different+from+our+Central+FL+council%27s+camp+La%2dNo%2dChe%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aFASR+had+what+I+want+of+a+BSA+camp%3a+no+frills+at+sites+but%2c+good+facilities%2c+a+good+program+and+a+staff+that+did+it%27s+best%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aNo+hot+water+at+sites%2c+but+at+the+end+of+the+day+that+cool+shower+was+welcome%2e++I+can%27t+say+enough+about+the+wonderful+spring+fed+lakes+%28you+can+see+the+bottom%2c+rare+for+Florida%29%2c+one+each+for+swimming%2c+boating+%26+water+skiing+and+one+for+fishing%2e++Shooting+range+was+excellent%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aThey+had+already+broken+ground+on+new+dining+facility+to+open+for+2001+camp%2c+but+existing+was+wonderful+if+a+bit+crowded+even+with+2+seatings%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aOne+disappointment+was+some+merit+badge+classes+were+cancelled+due+because+they+did+not+get+the+qualified+instructors+at+the+last+minute+and+did+not+want+to+run+a+merit+badge+mill%2e+This+led+to+some+last+minute+scrambling+to+enroll+scouts+into+appropriate+courses%2c+but+I+respected+that%2e++We+still+had+our+troops+merit+badge+coucilors+review+requirements+and+how+they+were+met%2c+all+merit+badge+requirements+earned+were+considered+met+and+awarded+%28it+is+up+to+the+troop+no+matter+what+camp+is+attended%2c+trust+but+verify%29%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aA+small+plus+was+the+week+we+attended+they+added+a+few+merit+badges+not+on+agenda+thanks+to+some+wonderfully+qualified+leaders+attending+with+their+troop%2e++How+many+scouts+do+you+know+that+earned+atomic+energy+at+summer+camp+with+a+nuclear+technician+from+FL+power+and+light%3f%0d%0a%0d%0aThe+scouts+loved+the+camp%2e%0d%0aStaff+was+wonderful%2e%0d%0aBugs+were+no+trouble+%28I%27m+sure+this+varies%29%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aNO+frills+for+scoutmasters+%28I+respect+that+too%21%29at+that+time+except+having+coffee+and+morning+paper+brought+out+at+sunrise+by+staff%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aCheckin%2fout+was+very+well+organized%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aClosing+%22review%22+was+best+production+I+have+seen+by+a+scouting+staff%2e+%0d%0a%0d%0aThere+was+also+one+site+for+handicapped+access+that+was+well+designed+including+an+accessible+shower+%28the+one+exception+to+hot+water+at+sites%29%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aOf+the+five+camps+my+sons+have+been+to%2c+this+is+the+one+they+want+to+go+back+to+most%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aKevin+Connors%0d%0aASM+Troop+849%0d%0aAltamonte+Springs%2c+FL%0d%0acmgts1+%40+yahoo+%2e+com%0d%0a%0d%0a%0d%0a

Great+camp%2c+water+is+great+to+be+in%2e++They+still+have+a+lot+to+fix+after+the+hurricanes+came+through%2e++I+can%27t+wait+for+the+summer+because+I+will+be+on+staff+there%2e++Lots+of+fun%2e%0d%0a

Our+troop+attended+FA+this+Summer+%282007%29+for+the+fourth+time%2e++The+young+staff+is+extremely+attentive+and+courteous+to+all%2e++It+was+well+organized+and+fun+for+all+age+scouts%2e++The+food%2fdining+hall+is+great%2e++The+new+cabins+are+real+nice%2e++But%2c+you+WILL+be+sharing+your+campsite%2fcabins+with+another+troop+because+they+do+fill+those+cabins+right+to+capacity+and+then+some%2e+Merit+badge+counselors+are+interesting+and+pleasant%2e++Activities+midday+for+adults+are+a+nice%2c+new+addition%2e++The+many+numerous+odd+Summercamp+merit+badges+like+Vet+medicine%2c+Law%2c+Music%2c+etc%2e+help+to+keep+the+older+scouts+wanting+to+come+back%2e++One+of+my+favorite+camps+even+in+mid+July+heat%21+++%0d%0a
