Our+Troop+263+from+Half+Moon+Bay%2c+just+returned+from+summer+camp+at+Camp+Royaneh%2e++The+camp+is+operated+by+the+San+Franciso+Area+Council+and+is+located+two+hours+north+of+San+Francisco%2e++The+camp+has+a+long+%26+strong+history%2c+it+will+celebrate+its+75th+anniversay+in+the+year+2000%2e++Being+as+it+was+my+first+time+ever+at+a+Boy+Scout+Camp%2c+their+was+many+things+to+do%2e++The+camp+staff+was+excellent+and+offered+many+merit+badge+oppurtunities+to+the+scouts%2e++21+scouts+and+4+leaders+attended%2e++Badges+offered+ran+from+Horsemanship%2c+%28Royaneh+boasts+24+horses+at+camp+plus+another+24+horses+at+its+sister+camp+Wente%2c+located+near+Ft+Bragg+on+the+California+coast%2e++This+total+ranks+second+only+to+Philmont+in+number+of+horses+owned+by+a+Boy+Scout+unit%2e%29++Other+badges+were%2c+shotgun%2c+22+caliber+rifle%2c+mountain+man%2c+swimming%2c+astronomy%2c+cooking%2c+etc%2e++In+all+the+troop+of+21+boys+earned+65+merit+badges%2c+which+is+approximately+3+badges+per+scout%2e+The+first+year+scouts+participated+in+a+Baden+Powell+classes+offering+advanment+from+Tenderfoot+to+First+Class%2e%0d%0a+%0d%0aOne+of+the+Troops+attending+brought+along+a+brother+troop+from+Okinawa%2c+Japan%2c+that+included+both+boy+and+girl+scouts%2e++The+evening+activites+ranged+from+traitional+camp+fires+to+Gladitator+contests%2c+%28obstical+course%2c+tug+of+war%29+It+was+an+excellent+experience%2e%0d%0a+%0d%0aYIS%0d%0aBob+Prentice%0d%0aASM+Troop+263%0d%0a
I%27ve+been+to+many%2da%2dcamps+and+there+is+absolutely+NO+comparing+to+Camp+Royaneh%2e++I+have+never+seen+a+camp+so+actively+keep+its+traditions+alive%2e++I+have+never+seen+such+an+outstanding+program+and+their+staff+is+simply+unbeatable%2e++My+troop+went+this+summer+for+the+first+time+and+we+will+surely+come+again+next+year%2e++Some+of+the+highlight+programs%3a+C%2eO%2eP%2eE%2e+and+the+Diomand+R%2e%0d%0a
I+have+searched+long+enough+to+find+a+good+camp%2e++This+is+the+best+camp%2c+even+if+you+combine+the+rest+this+is+still+the+place+to+be%2e++With+the+good+food+you+get+without+even+waiting+in+line%2e++The+aquatics+is+great+too+with+the+clean+swimming+pool+and+warm+private+showers%2e++The+place+is+perfect+with+not+too+hot+weather+and+is+near+the+ocean+for+the+oceanography+%26+nature+merit+badges%27+field+trip+there%2e++The+Diamond+R+Corral+is+a+great+place+to+do+the+rare+horsemanship+merit+badge+and+also+hosts+the+one+and+only+gladiator+competition+of+tug%2dof%2dwar+and+relay+races%2e++Don%27t+worry+about+bringing+tents+because+Royaney+has+huge+wall+tents+already+there+or+you+could+get+a+nice%2c+big+cabin+to+stay+in%2e++At+Royaney%2c+you+dont+need+to+worry+about+adopting+a+bush+because+they+have+flushing+kybos+that+get+cleaned+and+don%27t+smell%2e++Moms%2c+don%27t+worry+about+forgeting+things+because+Royaney+has+a+great+trading+post+that+doesn%27t+have+extreme+prices+like+other+camps+but+is+pretty+thrifty+for+your+dollar%2e++There+is+also+a+pay+phone+outside+of+the+dining+hall+so+your+son+can+tell+you+not+to+worry%2e+Royaney+is+a+great+place+to+do+merit+badges+since+it+has+Camping%2c+Citizenship+in+the+Nation%2c+Communications%2c+Swimming%2c+Lifesaving%2c+Envirmental+Science%2c+Emergency+Prepardness%2c+and+First+Aid+which+are+all+eagle+required+merit+badges%2e++They+also+have+the+rare+and+fun+Astronomy%2c+Oceanography%2c+Horsemanship+and+rifle+and+shotgun+shooting+merit+badges%2e++Royaney+offers+more+than+35+merit+badges%2e++Also+have+a+great+baden+powell+program+for+the+new+scouts%2e++For+the+older+scout%2c+Royaney+offers+Chemestry+metit+badge+for+those+with+a+challenge%2e++Royaney+is+the+camp+for+everybody%2c+even+the+adults%2e++If+you+think+this+is+an+okay+camp%2c+then+think+again+because+my+troop+is+from+Nevada+and+we+have+more+than+15+camps+we+could+go+to+that+are+closer%2c+but+we+dont%2e++We+don%27t+care+about+the+6%2d7+hour+drive%2c+what+we+care+about+is+going+to+a+great+camp%2e++That+is+what+we+do%2e++++++%0d%0a
The+first+ever+Mother+and+Son+Campout+at+Camp+Royaneh%2c+specifically+for+Cubs%2c+was+a+gratifying+experience%2e+Royaneh%2c+nestled+in+around+312+acres+of+coastline+Redwoods+made+for+a+spectacular+setting%2e+Our+specific+tent+was+in+an+idyllic+sloping+meadow%2c+called+Friscot%2c+overlooking+the+Corral+and+with+breath%2dtaking+valleys+to+the+west%2e+Three+wild+turkeys+and+a+peacock+greeted+us+at+our+arrival%2e+Tents+on+platforms+were+provided+for+us%2e+My+Wolf+Cub+%28Pablo%29+learned+how+to+safely+use+both+a+BB+Gun+and+the+Bow%2dand%2dArrow%2c+caught+and+released+bugs%2c+scampered+after+lizards+and+witnessed+a+well+executed+outdoor+flag+raising+ceremony%2e+The+weather+in+late+April+was+delightful%2e+Hiking+around+Royaneh+was+easy+on+my+knees%2e+All+our+meals+were+prepared+and+served+in+the+cavernous+Dining+Hall%2e+The+entire+weekend+was+very+memorable%2e+We+look+forward+to+the+next+Mom%2dSon+campout%21%0d%0a%0d%0aFlory+Dekovic%0d%0aPack+88+%28San+Francisco%29%0d%0a%0d%0a
My+troop%2c+380%2c+from+Sacramento%2c+California%2e+Royanehs+beautiful+scenery+provides+a+great+trip+for+all%2e+Royaneh+recently+resurfaced+the+pool+which+makes+it+a+great+place+to+get+the+swimming+merit+badge%2e+A+LOT+OF++HIKING%0d%0a%0d%0aDakota+Fitzsimmons%0d%0aTroop+380++%0d%0a
Wonderful+memories+of+being+there+with+Troop+50%2e+Then+serving+on+Staff+58%27%2d59%27%26+60%27doing+various+chores+as+%22Maintenance+Aid%22%3a+grease+and+run+water+supply+pump+daily%2c+repair+broken+plastic+water+lines%2c+etc%2c+etc%2e+I+even+got+to+drive+Dr+Frank+home+to+SF+in+his+%281949%3f%29+Packard+at+the+end+of+one+season%2e+Didn%27t+think+life+could+get+any+better+than+working+under+Mr%2e+Benson+and+Jim+Wilkins%2e+I%27m+sure+there+have+been+many+changes+and+improvements+since+my+last+visit%2c+and+wonderful+memories+are+still+being+generated+there%2e+Ken+Manley+Jr%2e+%0d%0a
