Our+troop+just+returned+from+Camp+Whitsett+in+the+Southern+Sequoias+%28near+Bakersfield%2c+California%29%2e%0d%0a+%0d%0aCamp+locale+is+beautiful%2e++Lots+of+pine+trees+and+rolling+hills%2e++Camp+is+relatively+small+which+is+great+because+everything+is+accessible%2e++But+you+never+feel+that+you+are+stacked+on+top+of+anyone+or+anything%2e%0d%0a+%0d%0aFood+was+terrific%2e++Cooked+on+the+premises+and+seconds+were+aplenty%2e++And+they+served+food+that+was+a+hit+with+both+the+boys+and+adults%2e%0d%0a+%0d%0aThe+First+Class+Emphasis+center+was+fabulous%2e++One+of+the+best+our+troop+has+ever+encountered%2e%0d%0a+%0d%0aCamp+staff+was+helpful%2e++Unfortunately%2c+we+had+to+seek+the+aid+of+the+medic+more+than+once%2c+and+he+was+thorough+and+concerned%2e%0d%0a+%0d%0aIt+was+HOT%21%21%21%0d%0a+%0d%0aThe+only+problem+our+boys+had+was+with+the+lake%2e++They+have+no+pool%2c+so+all+aquatics+took+place+in+the+lake%2e++Was+a+little+murky+for+our+city+boys+AND+it+was+57+degrees+or+how+ever+cold+one+would+expect+recently+melted+snow+to+be%2e+Made+lifesaving+badge+difficult+for+some+boys+and+impossible+for+others%2e%0d%0a+%0d%0aThe+COPE+course+was+good%2c+fun+and+scary%2e%0d%0a+%0d%0aPlenty+of+row+boats%2c+kyacks%2c+canoes%2e++Lake+was+very+scenic+even+if+it+was+very+%28did+I+say+%22very%22%3f+I+meant+icy%29+cold%2e%0d%0a+%0d%0aLots+of+intercamp+activities%2e++Our++boys+had+a+great+time%2e%0d%0a+%0d%0aYIS%0d%0aKatherine+Coates%2c+ASM+Troop+28%0d%0a
Camp+Whitsett+was+undamaged+by+the+McNally+Fire+of+July+21%2c+2002%2e++It+will+reopen+in+2003%2c+undamaged+and+ready+for+Scouts%2e++
Attended+the+camp+in+2003%2e+Scouts+had+the+opportunity+to+enhance+virtually+all+scout+skills+one+would+expect+to+find+in+a+well+maintained+and+eloquently+staffed+environment%2e++Meals+served+were+hot+and+plentiful%2e+Scouters+are+treated+with+a+never+ending+coffee+pot+at+the+mess+hall+%28a+plus+for+those+of+us+that+can%27t+quite+get+the+engine+going+in+the+am%29%2e+The+trading+post+was+a+continual+hit+the+scouts%2c+many+trinkets+purchased%2e%0d%0aThe+Astronomy+Merit+Badge+outings+are+bar+none%2e++Highly+recommended+for+troops+with+a+large+group+of+younger+scouts+starting+the+trail+to+%22Eagle+Scout%22%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aBen+Wiedner%0d%0aScoutmaster+Troop+1226%0d%0a%0d%0a
Camp+Whitsett+has+certainly+declined+over+the+past+few+years%2e++The+food+was+barely+eatible+and+very+sparse%2c+rarely+enough+for+seconds%2e++The+lake+was+dirty+and+very+cold%2e++Many+of+the+boys+never+went+in+the+water%2e++The+camp+staff+was+nonattentative+and+felt+that+the+scouts+were+bothering+thier+playtime%2e++I+will+never+return+to+this+camp+again%2e%0d%0a
