We+just+returned+from+Camp+Wehinahpay+yesterday%2e++I+wanted+to+post+my+comments+while+they+were+fresh+on+my+mind%2e++The+scenery+was+breathtaking%2e+The+problem+with+the+camp+is+total+lack+of+organization%2e++There+are+too+many+young+merit+badge+counselors%2c+15+or+16+year+olds+with+an+attitude%2e+They+sometimes+are+late+showing+up+for+class%2c+and+sometimes+do+not+show+up+at+all%2e++We+are+an+organized%2c+well+led+troop%2c+but+when+we+arrived+at+camp%2c+things+were+in+total+chaos%2e++They+moved+our+camp+site+without+letting+us+know%2c+they+cancelled+some+of+the+merit+badge+classes%2c+they+did+not+allow+you+to+register+for+classes+in+advance%2c+and+some+of+the+classes+were+not+complete+enough+to+justify+a+merit+badge%2e++Another+issue+was+the+lack+of+restroom+facilities%2e++There+are+no+faciilities+for+the+scout+to+use+except+for+thier+own+campsite%2e+Very+inconvient+when+some+classes+are+almost+a+mile+apart+and+not+near+their+campsite%2e++++%0d%0a%0d%0aThere+are+however+some+great+activities%2c+Chuckwagon+and+Mountain+Man+are+something+every+troop+needs+to+experience%2e++The+morning+chapel+service+does+leave+you+with+a+sense+of+being+nearer+to+God%2e++The+tradition+is+to+yell+%22Good+Morning%22+to+the+staff+while+at+Chapel%2e++It+echos+throughout+the+camp%2e++++%0d%0a%0d%0aWe+made+several+suggestions+to+the+camp+director+and+if+they+are+implemented%2c+we+might+consider+returning+in+several+years%2e++%0d%0a%0d%0a%0d%0a

If+the+individual+had+read+the+Camp+Wehinahpay+Leaders+Guide+for+20002%2c+he%2fshe+would+have+read+that+campsite+changes+would+be+done+in+the+best+interest+of+all+Campers+depending+on+their+Troop+size%2e++It+also+states+that+there+is+no+advance+sign%2dup+for+Merit+Badges%2c+just+some+of+the+more+popular+activities%2e++Some+MB%27s+were+canceled+due+to+low+participation+or+lack+of+a+qualified+instructor%2e+We+publish+Leaders+Guides+to+provide+general+guidence+but+issues+come+up+no+matter+what+camp+you+happen+to+be+attending%2e++The+writers+only+valid+complaint+is+the+lack+of+bathrooms%2e++One+bathroom+located+near+the+Dining+Hall+was+closed+after+Scouts+left+it+a+complete+mess+and+overflowed+the+commodes+multiple+times%2e++Some+Scouts+ruin+things+for+others+and+we+had+to+close+it+because+the+Leaders+would+not+volunteer+to+clean+the+latrine+on+a+daily+basis+after+being+told+of+this+problem%2e+Staff+does+not+clean+up+after+visiting+Scouts%21++In+2003+however%2c+we+will+be+placing+Porta%2dJohns+near+the+Main+Office+and+Dining+Hall+to+eliminate+this+problem%2e%0d%0a%0d%0a

We+attended+June+2004+and+had+4+boys+participate+in+the+camps+new+Upward+Bound+program+for+first+year+scouters%2e+Two+of+the+four+had+1st+Class+by+December+the+other+two+have+finished+2nd+Class+and+only+need+one+activity+each+to+complete+1st+Class%2e+I+would+recomend+that+any+first+time+campers+participate+in+Upward+Bound+at+Camp+Wehinahpay%2e%0d%0a

1955+huh%3f+you+must+be+at+least+70+man%0d%0a

Great+camp+at+a+great+place%21+the+Staff+was+remarkable+and+competent%21++They+did+a+great+job%21+What+a+great+place%21%0d%0a

2008+season+at+Wehinahpay+was+outstanding+in+many+ways%3a++The+staff+is+experienced+at+Wehinahpay+and+was+well%2dtrained%3b+aside+from+the+summer+rains+the+weather+was+mountain%2dcool+and+no+mosquitoes%3b+the+camp+needs+to+add+fishing+equipment+but+the+trout+were+big+and+biting%3b+outpost+camping+and+hikeouts+%28Spidey%27s+Hideaway%29+and+Mountain+Man+programs+take+advantage+of+the+setting+and+local+lore%3b+shooting+sports+had+top%2dnotch+staff%3b+the+climbing+tower+and+the+COPE+programs+were+breathtaking+%28literally%2c+at+8%2c500+feet%29%2e++The+council+has+done+much+to+improve+the+troopsites%2c+with+renovated+latrines+and+new+showers+and+very+good+platforms%2c+frames%2c+and+tents%2e++The+meals+were+filling+and+well%2dprepared+and+plenty+of+it%21++The+council+continues+to+develop+the+camp%2d+completing+new+staff+cabins+and+an+ecology+center+with+a+million+dollar+view%21++The+camp+is+well%2drecovered+from+the+2002+fire+season+%28near%2c+not+in%2c+the+camp%29%2c+has+cleaned+the+lake+and+annually+stocks+trout%2c+and+has+built+many+new+program+sites%3a++Climbing+tower%2c+COPE+course%2c+rifle+range+shelter%2c+archery+shelter%2c+and+added+new+visitor+latrines+at+the+headquarters+%28Maddox+Building%29+and+dining+hall%2e++The+camp+is+planning+overnight+hikes+to+the+Sacramento+lookout+tower%2e++You+can+find+the+camp+on+Google+earth%2d%2d+look+for+Sacramento+New+Mexico+and+follow+the+road+to+Potato+Canyon%2e+I+recommend+that+troops+consider+a+trip+to+New+Mexico+and+enjoy+this+high%2dmountain+camp%21+++%0d%0a

More+improvements+coming+the+summer+of+2017+as+the+camp+is+adding+ATV+Adventure%2c+BSA+Pistol+Program+with+Billy+the+Kid+Shootout+%28action+shooting%29%2c++and+more+merit+badges%2e++Action+shooting+to+be+added+to+the+archery+area+and+an+improved+Apache+Point+Mountain+Man%2e++Check+it+out+at+the+council+website+for+the+camp%2e%0d%0a
