Camp Maple Dell is located five miles up Payson Canyon at about 5,500 feet elevation, and is nationally recognized as one of the best camps in the United States. Camp Maple Dell is the flagship camp of the Utah National Parks Council. In keeping with past high standards, 1999 camp activities are again aimed at the highest traditions of this grand camp. Order fo the Arrow, COPE, a new and improved American Indian village, a new rifle range and improved lake facility highlight an already beautiful location. Maple Dell offers nature and ecology programs, pool and lakefront aquatics programs, rifle range, archery, handicraft, pioneering, scoutcraft, and Indian Lore. The traditions of Maple Dell inspire hundreds of adventure seeking Scouts and leaders to return each year.

This+is+one+of+the+most+rounded+camps+that+is+available%2e++For+those+who+don%27t+want+to+bring+food+they+have+a+commisary+plan+where+the+bring+the+stuff+to+cook%2fprepare+you+meal+a+few+times+each+day%2e++It+is+primarily+geared+for+the+younger+12%2d14+year+old+scout%2c+however+there+are+more+advanced+programs+available+%28fronteersman+program%2dthink+mountain+man%2dthree+levels+for+three+years%29+or+programs+for+the+troop+%28Wa%2dka%2dra+arrow%29+that+require+pioneering+projects%2c+service+projects%2c+and+active+camp+participation%2e++The+camp+is+large%2c+you+can+end+up+in+the+middle+of+camp+with+many+activities+around+you+or+1%2f4+mile+away+from+the+center+of+camp+in+a+quiet+surroundings%2e++Old+latrines+have+been+replaced+with+portable+toilets%2c+water+is+being+upgraded+this+year+%282005%29%2e++The+pool+teaches+lifesaving%2c+swimming+merit+badges%2c+plus+they+have+a+beginner+swimming+class%2c+and+a+BSA+lifeguard+program%2e%0d%0aThere+are+courses+for+the+leaders%2c+Safety+afloat%2c+Swim+Safely%2c+Youth+Protection%2c+and+Youth+Safety%2c+and+they+also+let+you+take+Leave+No+Trace%2c+and+certify+at+the+guide+level%2e++Archery+and+Rifle+have+been+upgraded+this+year%2e++There+are+about+30%2d38+troops+up+each+week+%28some+share+campsites%29%2e++And+except+for+monday%2ffriday+night+you+break+up+into+one+of+three+flag+ceremonies+in+your+area%2e++They+have+a+ranger+that+works+on+site%2c+and+2%2d3+other+employees+that+live+there+year+around+to+maintain+the+site%2e++They+do+many+training+through+the+year+including+Akela%27s+council%2c+OA%2c+Woodbadge+and+others%2e%0d%0aThere+are+many+trees+in+most+of+the+camp+so+it+is+shaded+from+the+hot+90%2b+degree+summers%0d%0aOf+the+many+camps+I+have+seen+this+is+great%2e%0d%0a

I+went+there+last+summer+and+the+camp+had+some+serious+problems%2e+The+pool+was+broken+so+none+used+the+pool%2e+The+shower+heater+broke+so+we+showered+in+icy+cold+water%2e+And+last+the+water+became+infected+with+Ecoli%2c+seven+kids+went+home+sick+and+we+had+to+boil+our+water+which+meant+hot+drinking+water%2e+Other+then+that+there+merit+badge+programs+our+really+good+and+they+have+lots+of+fun+activities%0d%0a

I+attended+Maple+Dell+each+year+as+a+youth+back+in+1983%2d86%2e+This+was+probably+the+best+memories+I+have+had+of+scout+camp%2e+It+is+good+to+hear+they+have+upgraded+some+things%2e+I+live+too+far+away+now+to+go+see%2c+but+one+day+I+would+like+to+revisit+the+place%2e%0d%0a
