The++staff+at+scoutland+really+made+a+difference+during+my+week+at+%0d%0ascout+camp%2e+Thank+you+staff+and+admin%2e+I+plan+to+come+back+with+my+%0d%0atroop+again+next+year%2e

Well+I%27m+ASM+of+Troop+204+in+Flowery+Branch+Ga%2e+Our+Troop+just+got+back+from+summer+camp%2e+And+I+wanted+to+share+our+experiences+with+the+group%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aWe+had+7+boys+to+attend+camp+at+Scoutland+on+Lake+Lanier+in+Gainesville+Ga%2e+There+was+about+160+boys+at+the+camp+they+keep+it+small+to+give+the+boys+a+better+experience+so+they+say%2e+They+offer+a+lot+of+aquatic+courses+along+with+a+wide+range+of+others%2e+Everything+went+great++Sun%2dThur%2e+All+week+two+Troops+SM+%26+ASM%27s+done+a+lot+of+service+work+like%3a+One+group+from+Fl%2e+help+teach+the+water+skiing+classes+all+week%2e+And+another+from+Norcross++Ga%2e+adopted+a+camp+site+about+a+month+ago+and+were+working+8%2d10+hrs+a+day+on+the+site+during+camp+the+boys+in+both+of+the+Troops+didn%27t+help+with+any+service+projects+but+they+got+credit+for+what+there%0d%0aSM+%26+ASM+had+done%2e+Which+the+other+Troops+never+had+a+chance+even+though+other+Troops+boys+had+spent+there+free+time+doing+service+projects%2c+making+gadgets%2cand+getting+perfect+scores+on+the+campsite+inspections%2e++Also+they+had+a+Archery+and+Air+Rifle+competition+and+the+winners+were+to%0d%0abe+announced+at+the+campfire+on+Friday+but+the+camp+Director+never+said+anything+about+the+winners+one+just+happened+to+be+my+son%2e+This+was+his+first+summer+camp%2e+He+just+crossed+over+this+year+after+earning+the++AOL%2e%0d%0aThe+other+boy+I+don%27t+know+what+happened+to+him+but+with+the+director+not+saying+anything+about+the+competition+it+broke+his+heart+because+he+was+so+proud+that+he+scored+44+out+of+a+possible+50+to+win%2e+It+is+very+hard+to+comfort+a+young+man+when+the+wind+was+taken+out+of+his+sail%2e+Because%0d%0athe+campfire+on+Friday+was+based+around+the+Troop+from+Fl%2e+and+Norcross+Ga%2e++service+work+that+was+done+by+the+Leaders+not+the+boys%2e+The+campfire+was+over+at+about+8%3a45pm%2e+The+SM+of+our+Troop+went+to+talk+to+the+director+after+the+campfire+and+he+said+he+had+it+written+down+but+forgot%0d%0ato+say+anything+about+the+two+boys+accomplishments%2e+The+course+ranger+had+been+called+away+just+before+the+campfire+to+unload+some+equipment+so+the+director+was+to+make+the+announcement+but+he+only+mentioned+the+adult+services%2e+At+about+11%3a15pm+he+and+the+ranger+came+to+our+camp+after+he%0d%0awas+asleep%2e+We+woke+him+and+presented+him+with+a+couple+of+items+to+make+it+up+to+my+son%2e++I+asked+the+director+about+the+other+boy+and+he+said+he+didn%27t+know+what+would+be+done%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aI%27m+sorry+for+getting+on+a+soap+box+but+I%27m+hoping+that+someone+from+National+will+read+this+and+put+a+stop+to+any+adult+service+work+counting+towards+the+accomplishments+of+the+boys%2e+It%27s+not+fare+nor+does+it+teach+the+boys+that+working+hard+will+recognized+and+rewarded%2e%0d%0a%0d%0a%0d%0aMark+Thomas%0d%0aASM%2dT204%0d%0aNEGA+Council%0d%0aChattahoochee+District%0d%0a%0d%0a

For+the+younger+scouts%2c+there+are+5+sessions+of+%22Boy+Scout+camp%22+style+Webelos+Adventure+Camps+during+the+month+of+August+at+%22Cubland+at+Lanier%22%2e++Each+session+is+four+days+and+three+nights%2c+perfect+for+Webelos+Scouts%2e++The+campground+has+been+improved+with+a+huge+fort+style+playground%2c+bathroom+facilities%2c+air%2dconditioned+dinning+hall%2c+a+fantastic+Council+fire+ring%2c+and+this+year+an+%22island+adventure%22+for+Webelos+2+Scouts%2e++Scouts+will+canoe+out+to+a+small+island+just+off+the+campground%27s+coast+and+learn+canoe+safety%2c+safe+swim+defense%2c+safety+afloat%2c+Leave+No+Trace+camping%2c+and+cooking%2e++These+camps+are+very+popular+with+metro%2dAtlanta+packs%2e++My+son+attended+Webelos+Adventure+Camp+a+few+years+ago+and+had+a+blast%21%0d%0a

I+and+three+other+parents+took+our+Webelos+I+Den+to+the+first+session+of+Webelos+Adventure+Camp+at+Scoutland+last+July%2e++My+boys+%28and+parents%29+had+a+wonderful+experience+at+this+camp+and+I+believe+my+Den+has+a+great+head+start+on+the+way+to+earning+their+Webelos+badge%2c+Arrow+of+Light%2c+and+hopefully+joining+Boy+Scouts%2e++I+registered+my+guys+for+activities+which+I+knew+were+not+my+specialties+%28Showman%29+or+I+felt+were+very+important%2e+%28Readyman+%26+Outdoorsman%29+They+were+able+to+complete+their+work+for+several+activity+badges+as+well+as+complete+parts+of+others%2e++Of+course%2c+in+our+free+time+we+got+to+shoot+air+rifles%2c+swim%2c+go+trail+biking%2c+run+the+obstacle+course%2c+and+play+at+%22Fort+Adventure%2e%22++%0d%0a%0d%0aMost+impressive+to+me+was+the+fact+that+they+all+learned+how+to+tie+knots%21++%28square%2c+double+half+hitch%2c+bowline%2c+taut%2dline+hitch%2c+clove+hitch%2c+timber+hitch%29++These+guys+are+still+9+years+old+and+they+enjoyed+learning+and+have+enjoyed+impressing+other+leaders+with+their+knot+skills+back+at+home%21++The+Boy+Scouts+serving+as+staff+members+worked+great+with+my+younger+guys%2e++They+also+put+on+a+great+show+at+the+campfires%21%0d%0a%0d%0aTo+top+it+all+off%2c+the+food+was+good%21++Even+the+other+parents+were+pleasantly+surprised+with+the+chow+in+that+nice+air+conditioned+Dining+Hall%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aThanks+to+all+the+leaders+and+staff+who+made+this+such+an+enjoyable+and+effective+camp+for+my+Webelos%2e++%0d%0a%0d%0aClark+Cooper%0d%0aPack+577%0d%0aSweetwater+District%0d%0aNEGA+Council%0d%0a%0d%0aPS+%2d+And+it+never+rained%21++%0d%0a
