Hey%2c+I+understand+Yawgood+is+a+great+camp+but+is+the+council+so+obsessed+with+this+one+camp+that+it+does+not+even+mention+any+of+the+other+facilities+the+council+operates%2e++The+last+time+I+checked+the+Narragansett+Council+had+at+least+six+other+camp+locations%2e++If+the+folks+in+Providence+have+so+little+interest+in+those+camp+locations+then+why+not+sell+them+off%3f%0d%0a

Yawgoog+offers+many+great+things%2c+and+there+is+a+center+for+just+about+everything%2c+including+rifle+and+archery+ranges%2c+a+favorite+among+the+guys+in+many+troops%2e+%0d%0aIf+you+go+you+will+be+sent+to+one+of+3+camps+inside+of+the+camp%3a+Camp+Three+Point%2c+Camp+Medicine+Bow%2c+and+Camp+Sandy+Beach%2e+%0d%0aAside+from+the+things+just+mentioned%2c+the+camp+also+holds+a+Campcraft+center%2c+a+Craft+center%2c+4+Aquatics+centers%2c+one+of+the+muddiest+obstacle+courses+imagined%2c%0d%0aa+History+museum%2c+4+general+stores%2c+%0d%0aa+huge+Challenge+center%2c+and+that%27s+just+the+stuff+that%27s+less+than+1%2f2+of+the+stuff+they%27ve+got%2e+%0d%0aOver+all%2c+it+is+an+enjoyable+camp%2e%0d%0a

My+son%2c+along+with+3+other+scouts+from+his+Troop%2c+spent+a+provissional+week+at+Yawgoog+in+2002%2e+They+were+stacked+8+boys+to+a+tent+and+80+kids+per+site%2e+The+food+was+awful+according+to+my+son%2e+It+seems+like+a+%22money+maker%22+and+not+a+%22memory+maker%22+camp%2e+They+didn%27t+even+give+the+kids+a+camp+patch%2e+Guess+they+cost+extra%2e%0d%0a

I+have+camped+at+Yawgoog+many+times+both+at+summer+camp+and+in+the+winter%2e+I+had+a+great+time+every+time+I+been+there%2e+There+are+plenty+of+hiking+trails+and+a+cave%28Tight+for+large+man%29%2e+At+summer+camp+there+is+a+great+cope+course%2e%0d%0a

I+hear+yawgoog+is+great+as+long+as+you+don%27t+get+food+poisoning%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aDysentary+is+not+an+enjoyable+program+addition%2e%0d%0a%0d%0atroop+726%0d%0a

took+my+troop+from+south+carolina+for+the+second+time+in+five+years+and+will+do+it+again%2e++the+program+is+top+notch%2e++if+a+kid+dosn%27t+eat+its+his+problem%2e++no+one+goes+away+hungry%2e++I+ama+veteran+of+14+years+as+a+scout+and+staff+and+as+a+scouter+for+5+trips%2e%0d%0a

Our+troop+went+to+Yawgoog+this+past+summer+and+stayed+at+Camp+Sandy+Beach%2e+We+had+very+high+expectations+as+we+had+heard+nothing+but+great+things+about+this+camp+from+other+troops+in+our+council+in+central+New+Jersey%2e+Needless+to+say%2c+the+camp+did+not+live+up+to+our+expectations%2e+maybe+we+expected+too+much+from+this+camp%2e+Let+me+start+off+by+saying+that+the+facilities+are+top+notch%2e+The+facilities+are+2nd+to+none%2e+We+have+been+to+summer+camp+in+Maryland%2c+New+Jersey%2c+Pennsylvania+and+New+York%2e+The+issues+we+had+with+yawgoog+were+simple+to+fix%2c+but+nodbody+wanted+to+listen%2e+I+offer+the+following%3a+The+light+in+our+latrine+was+broke+for+4+days+before+the+staff+came+to+fix+it+only+after+we+said+we+were+going+to+hang+a+lantern+in+there+at+night%2e+A+local+troop+from+the+RI+Council+stayed+down+the+Curtis+Tract+with+us%2e+They+had+at+a+minimum+of+10+vehicles+in+their+site+at+any+given+time%2e+If+I+say+that+vehicles+from+that+site+drove+past+our+site+at+least+50+times+per+day+i+would+be+low+balling+it%2e+If+that+isn%27t+bad+enough+one+of+the+leaders+thought+it+was+fine+to+drive+boys+in+the+bed+of+his+pick+up+truck+every+day+to+take+down+the+trash%2e+Our+adult+leaders+were+fed+up+with+this+after+the+2nd+day%2e+Numerous+complaints+to+the+staff+fell+on+deaf+ears%2e+Our+leaders+would+not+get+off+the+road+to+allow+these+cars+to+fly+by+especially+when+children+were+present%2e+The+drivers+would+actually+trail+the+pedestrians+and+rev+the+engine%2e+As+I+said+we+told+the+staff+every+day+from+Sunday+to+Thursday+and+NOTHING+changed%2e+Evidently%2c+this+troop+runs+the+council+and+the+staff+was+obviously+intimidated+by+their+leaders%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aThe+vehicles+were+bad+enough%2c+but+I+do+have+some+issues+with+the+program+as+well%2e+Let+me+start+with+the+1st+year+program%2e+Yawgoog+does+touch+on+more+topics+than+any+camp+I+have+ever+been+to%2c+and+I+was+the+1st+year+scout+leader+for+4+years%2e+But+the+1+issue+I+had+was+everything+they+did+with+the+children+was+all+instructional%2e+They+had+no+opportunity+to+do+anything+hands+on%2e+I+don%27t+think+they+did+get+too+much+out+of+the+program%2e+My+2nd+gripe+is+with+the+water+front+program+specifically+swimming+merit+badge%2e+When+I+asked+one+of+my+1st+year+scouts+about+the+line+and+tender+and+arm+and+leg+rescue%2c+he+said+they+didn%27t+do+it%2e+I+had+one+of+my+older+scouts+follow+up+and+the+instructor+told+him+that+%22Those+items+aren%27t+necessary+for+this+badge%22%2e+Not+only+are+they+necessary+for+the+badge%2c+they+are+rank+requirements%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aUpon+further+digging+at+the+waterfront%2c+I+found+that+their+requirements+for+inflation+were+very+lame%2e+They+actually+let+the+kids+remove+their+shirts+and+trousers+on+the+dock%2c+tie+them+up+and+fill+them+with+air+while+still+on+the+dock+and+then+jump+in+and+float%2e+That+kind+of+defeats+the+entire+purpose+of+inflation%2e+%0d%0a%0d%0aEvery+year+while+at+camp+we+have+the+boys+vote+on+whether+they+want+to+come+back+or+not%2e+Out+of+25+kids%2c+not+1+kid+voted+to+go+back+to+Yawgoog%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aWe+have+been+to+other+scout+camps+that+do+not+compare+to+the+facilities+that+Yawgoog+offers%2c+but+the+program+blows+away+Yawgoog%27s%2e+Next+year+we+will+be+going+back+to+Ockanickon+in+Pennsylvania%2e+Their+program+is+the+best+I+have+ever+seen%2e+When+you+leave+there+you+know+your+boys+earned+their+badges%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aSincerly%2c%0d%0a%0d%0aChris+Hill+SM+Troop+84+East+Brunswick%2c+NJ%0d%0a

You+should+try+coming+to+Horace+A%2e+Moses+Scout+Reservation%2e++We+have+great+programs+and+great+food+and+alot+of+fun%21%0d%0a

Yawgoog+is+an+acquired+taste%2e+The+food+is+not+the+best%2c+but+you+must+see+past+tiny+details+like+that%2c+because+nothing+is+perfect%2e+The+staff+is+always+friendly%2c+and+usually+know+what+they+are+doing%2e+The+problem+stated+above+about+not+knowing+some+of+their+badges+is+due+to+the+fact+on+how+staff+are+hired%2c+if+you%27re+15+or+older%2c+you+can+join%2e+You+do+recieve+a+week+of+training%2c+but+the+director+of+that+area+cannot+watch+all+of+his+staff+men+and+run+his+program+at+the+same+time%2e+%0d%0aI+don%27t+know+what+he+is+talking+about+not+having+a+hands%2don+program+for+first+year+scouts%2c+they+must+have+not+gone+to+the+New+Frontiers+program%2e+There+they+learn+all+the+requirements+up+to+Second+Class%2e+They+teach+as+much+as+they+can+hands%2don%2c+including+fire+building%2e+%0d%0aYawgoog+offers+something+for+everyone%2c+and+they+may+not+know+the+most+about+things%2c+but+they+sure+give+the+scouts+a+great+week+of+fun+and+spirit+guided+by+tradition+and+friendly+staff%2e+I+couldn%27t+think+of+a+better+place+to+send+my+son+too%2e%0d%0a

I+have+been+to+Yawgoog+at+least+five+times+and+have+not+been+in+almost+just+as+long%2c+and+I+must+admit+that+I+miss+it+terribly%2e+The+good+and+the+bad+are+part+of+the+experience+at+any+camp%2e+%0d%0a%0d%0aOne+year+that+I+went+a+kid+in+my+troop+got+food+poisoning+when+we+were+camping+across+the+lake%2c+one+of+the+adults+and+I+rowed+him+back+at+midnight%2e+Would+the+trip+have+been+better+without+that%3f+It+is+hard+to+say%2e+For+years+after+that+I+was+good+friends+with+Jose+%28the+scout+who+was+ill%29+and+without+that+there+was+no+guarantee+we+would+have+been%2e+%0d%0a%0d%0aI+stayed+at+three+point+so+I+am+undoubtedly+biased%2c+but+I+did+stay+one+week+in+Baden+Powell+at+Medicine+Bow%2e+I+think+Three+Point+is+the+best%2c+although+without+the+others+it+would+not+be+nearly+as+good%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aMy+conclusion+on+this+camp+always+has+been+and+always+will+be+that+the+experience+is+what+you+make+it%2e+Don%27t+expect+to+be+handed+fun+on+a+silver+platter+but+I+would+be+surprised+if+you+are+disappointed%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aI+have+so+many+good+and+bad+memories+tied+to+Yawgoog+that+I+do+not+know+what+I+would+do+without+them%2e+I+surely+would+not+be+the+same+person%2e+I+will+recommend+this+camp+to+anyone+who+will+listen+till+the+day+I+die%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aJoshua+Pileski%0d%0aTroop+39%0d%0a
