This+camp+is+located+in+our+District%2c+but+does+not+belong+to+our+council%2e+Troop+159+stayed+at+this+camp+for+our+District+Camporee+Nov+2003+and+it+was+a+great+camp+for+the+camporee%2e+%0d%0a%0d%0aOur+Camporee+theme+was+%27Backpacking%27+%2d+and+everyone+had+to+pack+everything+in+from+the+parking+lot%2e++the+camp+is+not+large%2c+so+no+one+had+to+walk+more+than+a+mile+or+so+to+their+campsite+%2d+most+were+considerably+less+distance%2e+Latrines%2c+water%2c+paths%2c+roads%2c+campsites+were+all+accessable+%26+well+maintained%2e%0d%0a%0d%0athe+only+negative+I+can+say+about+this+camp+is+that+we+were+close+enough+to+I%2d90+to+hear+the+truck+traffic+late+at+might%2c+but+it+wasn%27t+noticable+enough+to+keep+you+awake%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aAt+our+camporee%2c+the+lodge+was+off+limits+to+boys+%2d+staffers+only%2c+but+I+did+get+a+peek+inside%2e++It+consists+of+a+large+%27great+room%27+with+a+HUGE+stone+fireplace%2e++Bathrooms+and+facility+is+very+clean+and+up%2dto%2ddate+%2d+I+believe+there+were+even+a+few+single+showers+in+the+bathrooms%2e++There+was+a+fairly+modern%2c+commercially+equipped+large+kitchen%2c+and+separate+rooms+for+adult+male%2f+female+sleeping+for+YP+regs%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aThe+camp+also+has+a+Large+park+type+picnic+shelter%2c+not+far+from+the+lodge+and+parking+lot+that+has+a+concrete+floor%2c+picnic+tables%2c+roof+and+electricity+to+run+equipment+%26+a+permanent+outdoor+screen+for+movies%2c++or+slide+shows%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aThis+would+be+a+great+site+for+a+weekend+campout%2c+a+winter+campout%2c+JLT+training+weekends+or+merit+badge+and+advancement+workshops%2e++It+is+also+close+and+convenient+enough+for+a+cub+or+family+campout%2c+an+outdoor+Eagle+ceremony%2c+or+Court+of+Honor%2e%0d%0a

no+need+to+say+%22local+forest+preserve+district%22+%2d+say+%22Kane+County+Forest+Preserve+District%22+headquarters+in+Geneva%2c+IL+%2d+hopefully+they%27ll+keep+it+as+a+youth+camp+%2d+much+like+DuPage+County+FPD+did+with+the+former+DuPage+Area+Council+Camp+Thunderbird+in+Lisle+and+DeKalb+County+had+done+with+at+least+one+former+Scouut+camp%0d%0a

On+June+13%2c+2006%2c+the+Des+Plaines+Valley+Council+reached+agreement+with+the+Kane+County+Forest+Preserve+District+for+the+sale+of+Camp+Tomo+Chi+Chi+Knolls+for+a+little+over+%248%2e5+million%2e++We+are+pleased+to+report+that+on+August+31%2c+2006%2c+the+sale+of+Camp+Tomo+closed+and+the+proceeds+have+been+deposited+in+the+Council%92s+Trust+Fund%2c+where+they+will+earn+a+substantial+interest+of+almost+5+percent%2e++Former+Council+President+Bob+Lannert%2c+a+well%2dregarded+expert+in+financial+investment%2c+is+working+on+a+proposed+portfolio+to+maximize+future+earnings%2e++He+will+present+his+recommendations+for+consideration+at+a+future+Executive+Board+Meeting%2e+%0d%0a%0d%0a+%0d%0a%0d%0aIn+the+near+future+%242%2e4+million+of+these+funds+will+be+used+to+fulfill+our+pioneering+and+historic+agreement+with+Three+Fires+Council+to+develop+a+Cub+Scout+Resident+Camp+near+Rochelle%2c+Illinois%2c+the+first+such+Joint+Venture+in+Scouting%2e++Plans+for+this+new+facility+are+moving+ahead+with+architectural+design+support+from+National%2e++Details+of+these+plans+will+be+shared+with+you+in+the+near+future+and+your+comments+and+feedback+will+be+welcomed%2e%0d%0a%0d%0a+%0d%0a%0d%0aAs+previously+reported+in+the+March+Camping+Opportunities+Committee+Update%2c+the+remaining+proceeds+from+the+sale+of+Camp+Tomo+will+be+set+aside+in+the+Trust+Fund+for+our+Council%92s+use+and+will+remain+available+to+address+other+Council+needs+and+priorities%2c+as+should+be+determined+by+the+Board%2e%0d%0a%0d%0a+%0d%0a%0d%0aWhat%92s+next+for+Camp+Tomo%3f++Our+Council%92s+Units+will+be+able+to+use+Camp+Tomo+as+usual+until+the+end+of+October%2e++We+will+begin+moving+out+our+Council%92s+equipment+and+supplies+and+expect+to+complete+the+move+in+December%2e++We+also+expect+to+be+able+to+use+the+facility+in+Rochelle%2c+IL%2c+for+many+of+the+training+and+other+activities+formerly+carried+out+at+Camp+Tomo%2e++Additionally%2c+we+understand+that+the+Kane+County+Forest+Preserve+may+make+former+Camp+Tomo+available+for+camping+and+related+activities+in+the+future%2e++We+will+keep+you+informed+on+these+developments+and+any+other+adjustments+required+by+the+sale%2e%0d%0a%0d%0a+%0d%0a%0d%0aAs+part+of+the+Joint+Venture+Agreement%2c+our+Council+is+also+joining+Three+Fires+Council+in+a+fund%2draising+campaign+to+support+development+of+the+new+Cub+Scout+Resident+Camp%2e++While+our+planning+for+this+campaign+is+moving+forward%2c+Three+Fires+has+already+made+substantial+progress%2c+with+commitments+for+several+substantial+contributions%2c+including+that+of+%241+million+from+Tom+McCann+of+the+Three+Fires+Executive+Board%2e++This+fund%2draising+campaign+will+be+important+to+the+success+of+our+new+venture%2e++Our+Council+has+many+challenges+that+will+require+the+wise+and+careful+use+of+our+assets+to+meet+both+new+and+on%2dgoing+financial+needs%2c+including+decisions+about+the+development+of+our+Boy+Scout+Camping+Program+and+our+Wisconsin+properties%2e%0d%0a%0d%0a+%0d%0a%0d%0aThe+sale+of+Camp+Tomo+marks+an+important+milestone+in+meeting+these+challenges+and+our+ability+to+rise+to+embrace+new+opportunities%2e++Our+heartfelt+thanks+and+congratulations+are+due+to+our+Camping+Opportunities+Committee+under+the+leadership+of+Ross+Johnson%2c+and+in+particular+to+Bill+Sarther+of+the+Committee%2c+who+managed+the+sale%2c+for+taking+on+the+lead+for+a+project+of+such+magnitude+and+bringing+it+to+such+a+highly+successful+closure%21++We+could+not+have+done+it+without+his+knowledge%2c+hard+work%2c+patience%2c+and+sharp+negotiating+skills%2e+++Council+President+Bill+Seith+and+our+professional+staff+also+played+key+and+sometimes+vital+roles%2e++Thanks+are+due+to+all+those+involved+for+a+job+well+done+in+the+interests+of+our+Council+and+our+youth%0d%0a%0d%0a

Our+troop+was+just+there+%2d+April+%2713%2e++It+is+available+as+a+youth+camp%2e++The+lodge+is+fantastic+%2d+no+bunks+though%2e++We+did+some+indoor+activities+there%2c+and+was+used+by+the+adults%2e++Great+kitchen+facilities%2e++About+4+miles+of+hiking+trails%2e++Remnants+of+the+former+scout+camp+abound+%2d+found+the+old+program+bowl+%28from+when+I+was+a+scout%21%29%2c+some+old+overgrown+campsites%2e++The+existing+sites+are+nice+and+clean%2c+well+maintained%2c+fire+rings%2c+tables%2e%0d%0a
