My+Summer+at+Camp+Davy+Crockett+Boy+Scout+Camp%0d%0a%0d%0aCamp+Davy+Crockett+Boy+Scout+Camp+is+located+outside+of+Rogersville%2c+Tennessee%2e+It+is+about+20+minutes+from+where+my+parents+live+in+Morristown%2c+Tennessee+%28about+an+hour+southwest+of+Johnson+City%2dwhere+I+went+to+college%29%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aI+was+one+of+about+45%2d60+people+tasked+with+the+education+of+over+900+Boy+Scouts%2c+from+around+the+country%2c+in+the+areas+of+Motorboating%2c+Sailing%2c+High+Adventure%2c+C%2eO%2eP%2eE%2e%2c+First+Aid%2c+Wilderness+Survival+and+a+number+of+other+interesting+areas%2e+Among+the+supervisors+were+Casey+Norwood+%28Camp+Director%29+and+Ralph+Moats+%28Camp+Program+Director%29%2c+who+were+charged+with+maintaining+the+camp+and+all+of+its+inhabitants+with+good+food%2c+safety%2c+and+good+merit+badge+classes+and+other+activities+that+occured+during+the+week+the+different+troops+came+to+the+camp%2e+%0d%0a%0d%0aI+was+there+from+June+12th+to+July+31st+and+I+was+hired+for+the+job+of+Adult+Staff+for+the+C%2eO%2eP%2eE%2e+course%2c+and+also+as+the+camp+chaplain%2e+A+knowledge+of+initiative+games+and+other+activities+that+would+be+taught+to+the+scouts+in+order+to+help+them+develop+leadership+skills+was+necessary%2e+Also+included+in+the+week+were+high+elements%2c+such+as+a+set+of+logs+that+were+between+25+and+35+feet+in+the+air+that+the+scouts+had+to+walk+across+and+then+rappel+from+using+mobile+and+stationary+belays%2e+As+the+camp+chaplain%2c+I+held+two+services+a+week%2done+on+Sunday+night+after+the+troops+arrived%2c+and+the+other+on+Wednesday+night%2e+As+the+chaplain%2c+I+was+also+the+morale+official+for+the+troops+and+I+helped+ease+tensions+if+a+serious+situation+were+to+have+occured%2e+%0d%0a%0d%0aAlong+the+way%2c+I+met+people+from+many+different+troops%2c+located+in+council+and+out+of+council%2e+I+plan+to+attend+next+year%27s+camp+as+a+C%2eO%2eP%2eE%2e+Instructor%2fChaplain+once+again%2e%2e%2e%0d%0a%0d%0a%22Thumper%22%0d%0asizzler89%40hotmail%2ecom%0d%0a

Just+got+back+from+Camp+Davy+Crockett%2c+camp+was+well+run%2e+My+troop+traveld+over+8+hours+to+get+to+the+camp%2e+We+brought+a+large+number+of+boys+to+the+camp+%2834%29+and+nine+leaders%2e+We+really+liked+the+water+front%2e+The+Crockett+challange+was+fun+for+the+boys%2c+and+we+enjoyed+most+parts+of+the+camp%2e+However+in+my+3+years+of+going+to+scout+camp+as+a+leader+and+my+3+years+as+a+scout+long+long+ago%2c+the+food+was+the+worst+I+have+ever+had+at+camp%2e+We+%28the+leaders%29+were+almost+positive+that+the+food+was+NOT+MADE+AT+CAMP%2c+every+day+3+times+a+day+an+Aramark+food+service+truck+made+deliveries+to+the+camp%2e+The+only+thing+saving+the+meals+was+the+salad+bar%2e+As+a+whole+however+if+you+want+a+very+nice+pool+and+great+water+front+try+this+camp+out%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aTom+Weaver+%0d%0aCommitte+Chair+%0d%0aTroop+207+Forest+Oak+District%0d%0aNational+Capitol+Area+Council%0d%0a

With+regard+to+Mr%2e+Weaver%27s+comments+above%2e+CDC+has+hired+new+food+service+personnell+and+the+food+is+greatly+improved%2e+Our+scouts+this+year+last+summer+%282007%29+actually+commented+on+how+much+they+liked+the+food%2e++Several+%22veteran%22+scouts+and+leaders+also+commented+on+how+much+improved+the+food+was%2e+So%3b+come+visit+an+excellent+camp+in+the+mountains+of+NE+Tennessee%2e+You+will+be+hard+pressed+to+find+a+better+%22bang+for+your+buck%22+elsewhere%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aW%2e+Jay+Oberfeitinger%2c+ASM%0d%0atroop+387%0d%0aKingsport%2c+TN%0d%0a

Led+our+troop+to+Crockett+summer+camp+in+June+of+2007%2e++Very+well%2dorganized+camp%2e++Food+was+by+far+the+best+I%27ve+ever+experienced+at+a+summer+camp%2e++Beautiful+setting%2e++Latrines+were+a+bit+disappointing%2e++Merit+badge+instruction+was+hit+or+miss%2e++Shooting+sports+top%2dnotch%2e++Other+MBs+normally+taken+by+first%2dyears+%28Space+Exploration%2c+Model+Design%2c+etc%2e%29+were+staffed+by+inexperienced+and+apathetic+counselors%2e+First+year+program+was+also+understaffed+by+inexperienced+yet+interested+counselors%2e++Very+helpful+and+friendly+staff+overall%2e%0d%0a

Went+this+year+with+9+boys+and+2+leaders%2e++It+was+the+last+week+of+camp%2e++The+staff+was+great%2e++Food+was+good%2e++They+bent+over+backwards+to+please+us%2e++They+even+provided+a+birthday+cake+for+one+of+our+new+boys%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aOnly+complaints+were+dealing+with+activities+and+merit+badges%2e++Some+of+the+staff+were+inexperienced+and+did+not+care+if+the+boys+finished%2e++One+staff+member+had+to+be+begged+to+find+things+for+the+boys+to+do+to+finish+a+badge%2e++Other+areas+though%2c+kayaking%2c+the+instructor+was+more+than+willing+for+the+leaders+to+come+along+with+the+scouts+on+a+couple+of+paddles%2e++Shooting+sports+was+good+also%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aOne+problems+dealt+with+troop+wide+activities%2c+there+were+none%2e++We+wanted+to+go+canoeing%2c+archery%2c+various+other+areas%2c+yet%2c+if+you+did+not+go+at+the+4%2d5+time%2c+when+our+boys+were+at+classes%2c+it+did+not+happen%2e++What+happened+to+after+dinner+activities%2e++Plus%2c+there+were+not+enough+craft+projects+in+the+Trading+Post+for+the+boys+to+use+with+handycraft+badges%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aCamp+sites+were+great%2c+staff+was+very+helpful%2e++Would+I+go+again%2c+yes%2e++We+will+hit+a+few+other+camps+in+the+mountains+and+then+return%2e++Just+make+a+few+changes+with+instruction+and+increase+activities+and+you+will+have+a+well+run+camp%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aRC+and+a+MoonPie+from+Florida%0d%0a
