As+of+now+%28June%2c+2001%29+Camp+Omache+is+still+closed%2e++Work+is+beginning+%28or+underway%3f%29+to+restore+the+camp+and+reopen+it+as+a+Boy+Scout+camp%2e++The+Chief+Seattle+Council%27s+Camp+Brinkley+%28next+to+Omache%29+is+being+rebuilt+as+a+full%2dtime+Cub+Scout+camp%2e++I+believe+Brinkley+is+due+to+start+its+new+life+as+a+Cub+Scout+camp+next+summer%2e++Brinkley+is+being+used+for+both+Cub+Scouts+and+Boy+Scouts+in+2001%2e%0d%0a%0d%0a

Camp+Omache+is+being+rebuilt+and+will+reopen+in+the+summer+of+2003+as+Camp+Piggot+%28named+after+the+primary+donor+of+the+funds+to+rebuild+the+camp%29%2e++I+understand+that+the+camping+season+in+2003+will+only+be+three+weeks+long%2e++This+is+as+of+May%2c+2002%2e%0d%0a

Camp+Pigott+Is+open+and+running%21+They+have+a+great+C%2eO%2eP%2eE%2e+course%2c+a+really+cool+climbing+tower%2c+and+lots+of+other+wonderful+features%2e++It+ran+all+summer+long+and+just+played+host+to+a+woodbadge+course%2e+8%2f31%2f03%0d%0a

Went+to+Camp+Pigott%2c+summer+2004%3a+Good+Things%3a+Beautiful+Dining+Hall%2c+Great+climbing+wall+and+copes+course%2c+food+was+ok+but+plentiful%2e++Bad+things%3a+Merit+Badges+stated+in+Leaders+Guide+were+not+offered+there%2c+so+my+scouts+did+not+get+merit+badges+they+THOUGHT+they+could+get%2c+had+to+take+what+was+left%2e+Merit+Badge+sign+up+a+disaster%2e%2e%2eneeds+to+be+a+better+way%21%2e%2e%2e%2eArchery+range+and+rifle+range+very+small%2e%2e%2eAquatics+are+is+small+but+adequate%2c+very+little+to+do+for+younger+scouts%3b+MOST+areas+designed+for+13+and+over%2e%2e%2e%2e%2eCommissioners+GENERALLY+not+helpful+or+friendly+but+there+were+a+couple+good+ones%2e%2e%2e%2eTrading+Post+could+be+stocked+better+%28the+scouts+favorite+place%21%29%2e%2e%2eWe+made+several+suggestions%2c+however+they+were+not+interested+in+our+suggestions%2e++Our+troop+will+not+return+again+unless+changes+are+made%2e%0d%0a

My+troop+went+to+Camp+Piggot+in+2004+and+loved+it%2e+The+facilities+were+brand+new%2e+They+swam%2c+rowed%2c+cannoed%2c+and+water+skied+on+the+beautiful+lake+they+have%2e+The+staff+was+helpful+and+made+an+outstanding+effort+to+make+our+expeirence+at+camp+as+best+as+it+could+possibly+be%2e+Although+our+troop+rotates+camps+every+year%2c+I+know+that+we+will+have+boys+going+to+piggot+on+thier+own+as+a+second+summer+camp%2e+Thanks+Piggot+staff%2c+you+were+wonderful%2e%0d%0a%0d%0a

Been+back+from+Camp+Pigott+for+two+weeks+thinking+about+my+comments%2e++The+camp+has+very+good+facilities+with+a+couple+of+notable+exceptions%2e+The+waterfront+is+to+small+for+the+number+of+scouts+they+had+in+camp%2e+The+swim+test+was+difficult+for+the+strongest+swimmers+because+of+the+small+space+and+number+of+Scouts+swimming%2e+%0d%0a%0d%0aCheck%2din+and+merit+badge+sign%2dup+is+an+abomination%2e++The+youth+staff+handling+this+were+much+to+young+with+too+little+leadership+training%2e+They+tended+to+treat+adult+Scouts+with+a+generous+helping+of+disrespect%2e++I+expected+more+of+the+commissioner+staff+knowing+their+Scouting+backgrounds+but+was+sadly+disappointed%2c+especially+the+head+commissioner%2e+Furthermore%2c+the+ongoing+skit+was+based+on+Pokey+Mon%2c+which+was+offensive+to+every+member+of+my+troop+as+an+affront+to+Scouting+values%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aThat+said+the+program+staff+went+a+long+way+toward+making+up+these+shortcomings%2e++I+was+especially+impressed+with+youth+they+had+running+the+Scout+Skills+%28camping%2c+cooking%2c+pioneering%2c+early+advancement+classes%29+and+the+range+staff%2e++All+program+staff+member+seemed+to+be+very+knowledgeable%2c+eager+to+share+their+knowledge%2c+and+always+willing+to+help+Scouts%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aCamp+Pigott+could+e+one+of+the+best+in+the+nation+with+a+little+more+effort+in+selecting+a+Program+Director%2c+Assistant+Program+Director%2c+and+Head+Camp+Commissioner+who+better+understood+and+lived+by+the+Scout+Oath+and+Law+%96+especially+Helpful%2c+Friendly%2c+and+Courteous+%96+them+more+time+training+their+younger+staff+or+selected+older+staff+members+to+conduct+check%2din%2e+My+Scouts+are+ready+to+go+back%2e+The+adults+from+our+troop+are+not+so+sure+they+want+to+go+through+that+again%2e%0d%0a%0d%0a

My+troop+went+to+Camp+Pigott+in+2005+%2d+comments+above+%2d+and+came+back+this+year%2e++I+must+say+there+was+tremendous+improvement+from+our+last+visit%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aCamp+Pigott+is+one+of+our+council+camps+and+still+shows+that+it+received+the+last+infusion+of+cash%2e++The+facilities+are+stellar+although+the+water+front+remains+small+with+little+ability+to+expand+%96+nasty+swamp+one+side+very+steep+banks+to+the+other%2e++New+scout+showers+are+in+process+due+to+winter+storm+damage%2e++This+did+create+one+of+three+short+comings+I+saw+%96+youth+staff+and+adults+shared+3+shower+stalls+by+exclusion+periods+that+made+getting+a+shower+before+the+day%92s+activities+impossible+for+adults%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aStaff+improvement+was+astounding%2e++The+young+staff+members+I+criticized+two+years+matured+in+great+staff+members+this+year+showing+they+had+gotten+much+need+leadership+training+and+were+working+hard+to+pass+along+the+lessons+learned%2e++The+commissioner+staff+also+showed+a+rekindling+of+accepting+and+living+the+Scout+Oath+and+Law%2e++The+Program+director+and+his+assistant+were+above+reproach+this+year%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aThree+program+elements+stood+out+too%2e++They+were+the+Mountain+man+Experience%2c+rifle+range%2c+and+Woodcarving%2e++The+program+star+with+a+doubt+the+best+I+have+encountered%2e++Program+sign%2dups+still+need+much+work+%96+the+biggest+kids+get+the+slots%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aThe+only+other+criticism+I+have+was+the+camp+site+assignments%2e++While+we+were+far+from+the+largest+troop+in+camp%2c+we+were+large+enough+to+need+camping+for+3+patrols+which+was+impossible+but+for+the+kindness+of+troop+sharing+our+site%2e++It+would+have+been+easy+to+accommodate+my+troop+and+others+in+camp+without+my+shuffling+while+maintaining+patrol+integrity%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aKarl+Wood%0d%0aScoutmaster%0d%0aTroop+1490%0d%0aSequim+WA%0d%0a
