+I+have+been+to+that+camp+2+years+in+a+row+with+my+troop%2e++The+first+time+I+went+it+was+my+first+time+at+summer+camp+and+I+went+because+I+heard+that+they+had+a+very+good+first%2dyear%2dcamper+program+which+they+did%2e++the+second+year+I+went+the+whole+troop+went+as+one%2e++The+food+was+a+lot+better+the+second+time%2e++The+stuff+is+fun+to+be+around+and+the+campsites+are+fairly+close+to+all+the+merit+badge+activites%2e%0d%0a

We+had+a+super+time+camping+at+La%2dNo%2dChe%2e+the+dining+hall+was+a+nice+change+to+haveing+to+cook+all+the+meals+ourselves%2e++Tons+of+activities+to+do+and+supervision+was+excellent%2e++We+took+out+Tiger+Cubs+and+are+planning+another+pack+camp+out+in+the+spring%2e++If+you+live+in+Florida+you+understand+the+humidty+and+bugs+are+part+of+the+price+of+being+here+%2d+bring+your+bug+spray+%2d+its+a+good+oportunity+to+explain+the+types+of+disease%27s+bugs+can+transmit+and+how+to+protect+oneself%21++Go+enjoy+yourself%2e%0d%0a

My+son+went+as+a+provisional+scout+and+returned+raving+about+how+much+fun+it+was%2e++He+earned+6+merit+badges%2c+lost+weight+from+all+the+running+they+had+him+doing%2c+and+made+a+lot+of+new+friends%2e++I+highly+recommend+this+camp+as+it+was+less+than+1%2f2+the+cost+of+the+one+our+troop+took+him+to%2c+and+he+said+it+was+more+fun%2e++I+have+no+idea+about+trading+posts+and+supplies%2c+but+my+son+had+no+complaints%2e%0d%0a

Camp+La%2dNo%2dChe+has+the+best+aquatics+program+in+the+south%2e++Lots+of+aquatics+choices+on+a+large+private+lake%21++While+others+suggest+to+go+north+for+less+humid+weather%2c+that%27s+fine+if+you+want+a+sub%2dpar+aquatics+program%2e++Definitely%2c+consider+Camp+La%2dNo%2dChe+for+it%27s+program+and+good+food%2e++Great+facilities+and+friendly+staff%21++Don%27t+listen+to+other+camps+about+forgetting+about+the+Florida%27s+camps%2c+they+are+just+as+good+and+worth+the+money+to+visit%2e+++%0d%0a

I+was+a+non+camper%2c+%26+learned+that+I+needed+to+be+put+in+nature+more%2e+++My+son+was+a+Beginner+cub%2c+%26+he%27s+enjoyed+going+to+the+Camp+La%2dNoche%2c+%26+the+staff%2c+Bonnie+Daly+%26+Husband+were+good+hosts+as+well+as+Ed%2e++Mom+%28I%29+volunteered+at+Arts+n+Crafts+%26+had+a++blast+meeting+other+adults+too%21++I+enjoyed+%22joining+in+to+entertain+the+scouts+on+Fridays%22+with+my+fellow+craft+masters%2c+%26+learn+some+things+too%21++And+had+a+blast+too%2c+along+with+both+my+kids%2e+%28My+daughter+had+to+came+too%2c+to+help+with+crafts%2c+%26+had+a+chance+to+just+enjoy+doing+archery+%26+scout+watching%21%29+And+go+to+swimming+every+day%2c+which%2c+again+was+a+blast%21+++The+staff+let+me+bring+my+daughter+when+my+husband%27s+work+shift+changed+in+the+middle+of+the+week%21%21+++%0d%0a

I+thought+La%2dNo%2dChe+was+one+of+the+best+camps+that+I+have+ever+been+too%2e+It+had+a+great+aquatics+program+and+awesome+shooting+sports%2e+It+also+has+a+great+dinning+hall%2e%0d%0a%0d%0a

La%2dNo%2dChe+was+a+mixed+bag+experience+for+me%2e+The+facility+improvements+were+very+nice%2c+and+the+equipment+is+excellent+%28especially+the+aquatics+program%29%2e+However%2c+I+think+they+sunk+all+their+money+into+capital+improvements+and+the+human+aspect+suffered%2e+I+was+less+than+impressed+with+the+majority+of+the+counselors%2e+I+felt+that+most+of+them+were+too+young+and+immature+for+their+job%2e+Most+of+my+boys+ended+up+not+getting+their+badges+because+they+hadn%27t+learned+anything%2e+Physical+facilities+are+well+and+good%2c+but+competent+instruction+and+a+strong+program+are+far+more+important%2e+We%27re+at+Shands+this+year%2c+so+we%27ll+see+how+it+stacks+up%2e%0d%0a

Our+troop+went+to+La%2dNo%2dChe+%28in%2dcouncil+for+us%29+for+summer+camp+this+year%2e++I+thought+the+facilities+were+great%2e++There+was+always+plenty+of+ice+available+at+the+rotary+lodge+and+air+conditioning+in+the+dining+hall%2e++%28What+humidity%3f%29%0d%0a%0d%0aThe+instructors+were+more+than+competent%2e++At+our+Court+of+honor+next+week%2c+we+will+hand+out+well+over+100+merit+badges+earned+there%2e++%0d%0aI+assisted+with+the+cycling+merit+badge+as+an+observer+and+information+source%2e+%28Thanks+Chris%21%29There+was+very+little+that+was+not+covered+to+my+satisfaction%2e++The+rides+WERE+routed+a+little+shorter+than+they+were+supposed+to+be%2c+but+I+can+forgive+that%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aIf+each+adult+volunteers+some+service+at+camp%2c+all+the+campers%2c+scout+and+scouter+alike+will+benefit%2e++Troop+leaders+are+as+responsible+for+the+quality+of+the+summer+camp+experience+as+is+the+camp%2e++%0d%0a%0d%0aYes%2c+they+serve+cafeteria+style%2c+taste+free%2c+processed+food+%28can+you+say+mystery+meat%3f%29with+veggies%2c+a+carbohydrate+and+a+salad+bar%2e++Yes%2c+the+portions+are+such%2c+that+the+average+1st+year+scout+can+clean+his+plate%2e++Not+nearly+enough+to+power+a+grown+man+through+a+mile+swim+and+a+25+mile+bike+ride%2e++I+planned+ahead+and+brought+enough+energy+food+to+get+me+through%2e++%0d%0a%0d%0aHardship+is+a+part+of+camping+gentlemen%21++If+everything+was+like+sitting+in+your+living+room%2c+it+wouldn%27t+be+fulfilling+or+worth+the+time+and+effort%2e++%0d%0a%0d%0aSo+what+if+it+cost+a+couple+extra+bucks+to+buy+the+kits+at+the+trading+post%2e++Plan+ahead+and+bring+your+own%2e++Better+yet%2c+MAKE+your+own+kits+and+bring+them+along%2e++Don%27t+forget+the+sunscreen+and+bug+repellent%2e++%28After+all%2c+it%27s+in+the+woods+in+Florida%21+You+know%2c+that+whole+be+prepared+thing%3f%21%29%0d%0a%0d%0aJust+remember%3b+Summer+camp+is+for+the+BOYS%21++They+want+to+have+a+fun+Summer+camp%2c+they+don%27t+really+care+about+the+politics+of+the+BSA+national+distribution+chain%2e++They+want+to+see+everyone+having+a+great+time+including+their+Scoutmasters%2e++If+we+sit+around+and+complain%2c+they+will+take+our+gripes+as+serious+problems+and+sour+their+fun%2e++Adults+should+be+out+there%2c+cheerfully+helping+the+staff+teach+and+monitor+boys+behavior%2e++Only+then+can+ANY+camp+be+its+best%0d%0a%0d%0aNow%2c+go+out+there+and+get+a+sunburn%2c+a+couple+bug+bites+and+see+if+you+can+get+that+terrible%2c+chafing%2c+rash+between+your+legs%21%0d%0a%0d%0aSteve+Haugen%0d%0aTroop+365%0d%0aPalm+Bay%2c+FL%0d%0a

I+worked+at+Camp+La+No+Che+for+many+years+and+attended+there+as+a+scout+for+many+years+as+well%2e+I+feel+with+deep+regret+that+the+camp+has+become+increasingly+more+interested+in+profit+and+numbers+over+the+past+several+years%2e+I+don%27t+believe+that+any+camp+short+of+Sea+Base+or+Philmont+should+boast+such+numbers+as+3000%2b+campers+a+summer%2e+These+numbers+come+at+the+expense+of+the+human+element+of+the+program%2e+La+No+Che+is+the+only+camp+I+know+of+that+did+away+with+their+staff+week+so+that+they+could+add+another+week+to+the+camp+season+and+make+more+money%2e+This+means+training+ans+experience+is+reduced%2c+no+matter+how+many+training+weekends+you+have%2e+This+camp+has+also+proven+to+have+a+longstanding+practice+of+courting+scoutmasters+to+encourage+them+to+return+by+improving+facilities+they+use+instead+of+improving+the+program+areas+for+the+scouts%2e+They+opted+to+make+new+air+conditioned+scoutmasters+quarters+but+never+considered+purchasing+nicer+lifejackets%2e+They+are+the+only+scout+camp+I+know+of+that+uses+type+II+PFD+%28horse+collar%29+instead+of+purchasing+the+much+nicer+and+more+comfortable+type+III+PFD+%28vest%29+I+remember+as+a+young+scout+the+whole+camp+would+line+up+together+at+the+flag+pole+before+meals+to+hear+anouncements+and+sing+songs%2e+This+loses+a+lot+of+its+charm+when+you+meet+at+one+of+three+flagpoles+strewn+about+the+camp%2c+and+eat+at+rotating+meals+in+a+cafeteria+larger+than+the+local+high+school+gymnasium+with+so+many+people+that+those+at+the+head+of+the+line+are+finished+eating+brfore+those+in+the+back+get+to+searved%2eI%27m+sorry+to+say+that+this+camp+has+lost+it%27s+direction+with+little+hope+for+returning+to+its+roots%2e%0d%0a

I+just+returned+from+La+No+Che+this+past+weekend+and+the+above+posters+comments+are+basically+on+target%2e++The+camp+plans+to+build+10+new+campsites+so+they+can+in+their+words%2c+not+invite+more+scouts+but+allow+units+to+have+their+own+campsites+and+not+run+all+sites+every+week+for+renovations%2e++Some+of+the+renovations+mentioned+are+new+activity+centers+with+a+Scoutmaster+room+with+AC%2e++As+appealing+as+this+may+seem+so+what%2e++Yes+it+is+hot+and+humid+but+after+reading+the+above+posters+message+I+can+see+where+the+camp+has+gotten+too+large%2e++We+often+did+end+up+in+the+back+of+the+lunch+line+and+scouts+would+be+leaving+before+we+even+got+our+food%2e++On+a+brighter+note%2c+if+you+are+into+large+groups+and+quite+extensive+programs+then+La+No+Che+is+a+place+that+will+appeal+to+you%2e++Do+not+get+me+wrong+it+was+not+horrible+it+just+has+its+issues%2e++I+am+local+to+it+so+I+will+likely+attend+in+the+future%2c+but+a+more+mountain+type+resort+looks+to+be+the+next+place+for+us%2e%0d%0a

Winn+Dixie+dropped+a+lot+of+money+here+%2d+guess+that%27s+why+they+got+the+name%21+%0d%0a%0d%0aAnd+it+has+been+put+to+great+use%21+Great+swimming%2c+boating%2c+lots+of+new+buildings+and+facilities%2e+%0d%0a%0d%0aThe+Camp+program+was+great+and+my+son+completed+5+Merit+Badges+and+had+a+terric+time+as+well%2e+%0d%0a%0d%0aI%27ve+camped+here+a+couple+of+times+as+a+Cub+Leader+and+we+had+good+time+then+as+well%2e+%0d%0a%0d%0aReserve+early+%2d+they+fill+up+fast%21+%0d%0a%0d%0a

I+have+been+visiting+LaNoChe+since+I+was+a+Boy+Scout+%28long%2c+long+time+ago%29+and+now%2c+as+a+Cub+Leader+we+took+our+Cubs+there+for+the+Halloween+nights%2e++What+I+like+about+LaNoChe+is+it+still+provides+the+real+camping+experience+with+a+few+twists+to+make+it+more+comfortable+for+many+of+today%27s+kids+and+parents+who+are+used+to+more+modern+conditions%2e++We+go+to+other+camps+that+are+a+lot+more+modern+and+less+rustic%2c+but+the+KIDS+enjoy+LaNoChe%2c+and+that%27s+what+counts+for+me%21%0d%0a

We+had+2+scouts+go+Provo%2c+2+years+ago%2e++They+recommended+the+camp+for+summer%2c+this+year%2e++The+consensus+is+%22It+is+the+best+summer+camp%2c+we+have+done%2e%22+The+camp+is+totally+%22customer+focused%22%2e%0d%0a

Summer+Camp+2010+was+my+first+experience+at+LaNoChe%2e++I+had+doubts+about+my+physical+disabilities+and+getting+around+camp%2c+but+the+staff+at+LaNoChe+was+ready+for+me%2e++We+booked+a+centralized+site+for+my+convenience%2c+but+the+boys+benefited+from+it+even+more%2e++I+was+thoroughly+impressed+with+the+facilities%2e++Even+with+my+disability%2c+I+was+able+to+manage+pretty+well%2e++The+shooting+sports+ranges+are+run+so+professionally%2e++Skip+and+the+staff+know+how+to+instruct+the+boys+and+coach+them+well%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aOur+one+and+only+inconvenience+%28which+really+didn%27t+matter+much%29was+the+compressor+for+the+ice+machine+was+struck+by+lightning+the+day+before+we+arrived%2e++But+since+a+Scout+is+always+prepared%2c+I+had+brought+enough+ice+to+last+us+for+3+days%2e++That+meant+the+inconvenience+was+for+only+3+days+and+we+managed+to+make+it+through+that+just+fine%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aThis+year%2c+we+have+more+boys+AND+adults+signed+up+in+advance+and+I+know+we+will+have+a+super+time%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aFloyd+T%2e+Johnson%2c+Troop+309+Committee+Member%0d%0a
