Camp+Wakpominee+%28Ft%2e+Anne%2c+New+York%29%0d%0a%0d%0aMedium+sized+camp+in+the+adirondacks+of+New+York%2e++the+week+we+were+there+the+camp+had+about+325+Scouts+plus+scouters+and+staff%2e++Nice+location+with+a+beautiful+lakefront+%28actually+classified+as+a+%22pond%22+due+to+size%29%2e++If+you+ever+want+to+see+what+a+difference+caring+volunteers+can+make+in+a+camp%2c+this+is+one+to+look+at%21%0d%0a%0d%0aThis+camp+is+a+credit+to+the+Twin+Rivers+Council%21++They+have+an+asset+in+this+camp%2c+both+in+terms+of+Staff+and+facility%2c+that+I+WISH+were+available+locally%2e++I+wouldn%27t+take+my+unit+over+1%2c000+miles+for+a+%22run+of+the+mill%22+camp+%2d+and+we%27re+going+back+there+next+year%21%0d%0a%0d%0aLeaders+Handbook%3a++A%2d%0d%0a%0d%0aCould+have+used+a+little+more+information+to+insure+that+%22out+of+staters%22+came+with+physicals+%22properly%22+filled+out+to+satisfy+New+York+State+requirements+%28like+the+month+of+innoculations+instead+of+just+the+year%29%2e++Fortunately+the+Camp+director+%28HELLLLOOOOOOOOOO+STEVE%21%29+was+very+forthcoming+with+any+and+all+information+needed+to+insure+no+problems+on+arrival%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aIn%2fout+processing%3a++A%2d%0d%0a%0d%0aVery+efficient+process+for+checking+troops+in+and+out%2e++the+only+down%2dside+was+that+picture+taking+didn%27t+happen+till+Monday+night+%2d+some+disruption+of+the+dinner+schedule+as+a+result+%2d+and+the+Trek+crew+could+not+get+a+unit+picture%2e++They+hope+to+have+this+%22fixed%22+next+year%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aMeals%3a++B%2b%0d%0a%0d%0aVery+good+preparation+and+adequate+sizing+for+most+people%2e++As+a+male+adult+weighing+a+bit+more+than+I+should%2c+the+portions+were+a+little+%22light%22%2e++However+the+guys+and+other+SMs+were+EXTREMELY+complimentary+of+both+the+quality+and+quantity+of+food%2e++The+camp+uses+a+waiter+system+and+family+style+feeding%2e++EXCELLENT+organization+resulting+in+reasonable+time+spent+in+the+dining+hall%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aMeal+time+was%2fis+a+%22special%22+time+at+this+camp%2e++Staff+sit+at+the+tables+with+the+units+and+talk+to+the+Scouts+and+Scouters%2e++%22Song+time%22+is+part+of+all+meals+and+birthdays+are+celebrated+in+a%2e%2e%2e%2e%2especial%2e%2e%2e%2e%2e+way%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aProgram+Facilities%3a++A%0d%0a%0d%0aThey+had+what+appeared+to+be+new+rifles+at+the+range%2c+new+bows+at+archery%2e++Boats+at+the+waterfront+%28canoes%2c+kayaks%2c+rowboats%2c+sailboats%29+were+all+in+excellent+shape+as+was+the+swimming+dock+and+virtually+all+the+program+areas%2e++Cost+of+materials+%28arrow+kits%2c+ammunition%2c+leatherworking+material%2c+etc%29+is+built+into+the+camp+cost%2e+No+additional+fees+for+participating+in+any+of+the+merit+badge+classes%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aCampsites%3a++B%2b%0d%0a%0d%0aThe+only+reason+for+this+not+being+an+%22A%22+is+the+latrines%2e++We+are+spoiled+at+our+local+camp+with+real+flush+toilets%2c+urinals%2c+and+2+showers+with+%22on+demand%22+hot+water+at+each+site%2e++The+Camp+has+%22traditional%22+Scout+toilets+at+each+site+with+two+%22gang%22+shower+facilities+%28one+on+each+end+of+camp%29%2e++Womens+shower+and+adult+showers+are+in+the+same+building+but+totally+separated+in+different+areas%2e++Don%27t+get+there+too+late%2c+however%2c+or+you+may+be+at+risk+of+a+cold+shower%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aTentage+was+in+good+condition+and+the+Adirondacks+that+we+stayed+in+were+solid+and+comfortable%2e++Some+of+the+best+sleeping+I%27ve+had+in+a+dog%27s+age%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aStaff%3a++A%2b%2b%2b%0d%0a%0d%0aEXCELLENT+staff+that+really+wants+to+be+there%2c+do+exceptional+jobs+on+the+various+classes%2c+and+truly+seem+to+have+fun+with+the+Scouts+%2d+and+Scouters%2e++Virtually+every+one+of+my+25+Scouts+specifically+commented+on+the+outstanding+quality+and+attitude+of+the+Staff%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aMy+ASMs+all+commented+on+how+they+wished+they+had+had+that+kind+of+quality+when+they+had+gone+to+camp+as+youth%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aMerit+Badge+and+Program+Opportunities%3a++A%2d%0d%0a%0d%0aReasonable+selection+of+merit+badges%2e++Excellent+Trek+Selections%2e++Excellent+COPE+course%2e++Excellent+Mountain+Biking+program%2e++Could+use+some+expansion+to+provide+opportunities+for+the+%22seasoned%22+camper+%28one+of+my+second+year+scouts+was+at+his+third+Boy+Scout+Summer+camp+of+the+summer+%2d+had+a+little+problem+finding+things+he+was+interested+in+that+were+available%2e%29++Taking+advantage+of+opportunities+in+the+local+area+could+result+in+interesting+Climbing+Merit+badge+opportunity+%28as+an+example%29%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aUnique+approach+to++having+the+Scouts+sign+up+for+selected+merit+badges%2e++The+first+time+there+I+was+more+than+a+little+%22concerned%22+about+the+approach%2e++However+it+works+VERY+well+and+the+Scouts+have+fun+doing+the+sign%2dup%21++Third+time+I%27ve+seen+the+process+there+and+now+even+I+enjoy+it%21%0d%0a%0d%0aTrading+Post%3a++B%0d%0a%0d%0aEnough+stuff+to+keep+the+Scouts+happy%2e++Not+enough+to+get+them+in+trouble%2e++Basic+assortment+of+T%2dshirts%2c+hats%2c+and+misc%2e+items%2e++HOWEVER%2c+the+staff+would+go+out+of+their+way+to+get+you+what+you+needed%2e++EXCELLENT+selection+of+gummy+worms%21%0d%0a%0d%0aMedical%3a+A%0d%0a%0d%0aExcellent+facility%2e++Excellent+Staff%2e++Really+kept+track+of+what+youth+may+have+been+%22delinquent%22+in+taking+meds+and+followed+up%2e++Dealt+with+minor+injuries+efficiently+and+effectively%2e++Had+one+%22serious%22+incident+%28diabetic%29+and+it%2c+too%2c+was+dealt+with+VERY+well%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aBottom+Line+on+Summer+Camps+is%2c+I+think%2c+reflected+in+the+way+the+Scouts+feel%2e++Mine+have+been+to+Thunder%2c+Skymont%2c+and+Daniel+Boone%2c+besides+Wakpominee%2c+in+the+last+4+years+%2d+Wakpominee+is+the+ONLY+one+that+they+have+voted+to+return+to+the+following+year%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aCampfires%2fCamp+Program%3a++A%0d%0a%0d%0aRefreshing+to+see+Scout+run+and+Scout+led+campfires+again%2e++The+Scouts+truly+enjoyed+it+and+I+had+more+fun+at+them+than+I+have+had+since%2e%2e%2e%2e%2e%2ethe+last+time+I+was+there%21%0d%0a%0d%0aOne+other+item+that+was+SO+outstanding+it+must+be+mentioned+was+the+Parents+night+dinner%3a++A%2b%0d%0a%0d%0aBarBeQue+chicken%2c+Sausage%2c+Hamburgers%2c+Hot+Dogs%2c+Potato+Salad%2c+Macaroni+Salad%2c+Corn+on+the+Cob%2c+Beans+%28gotta+have+em%29%2c+several+breads+and+rolls%2c+Watermelon%2c+and+more%21++REALLY+good%21%0d%0a%0d%0aOverall+rating%3a++A%0d%0a%0d%0aAgain%2c+Twin+Rivers+has+an+EXCEPTIONAL+property+and+staff+at+this+facility%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aFranco+Piccione%0d%0aScoutmaster%2c+Troop+225%0d%0aAdvisor%2c+Crew+225%0d%0aCentral+Florida+Council%0d%0a
