Seasonal Summer Camp. Facilities also available in off season. Crescent Lake is an awesome setting and easy access to many backcountry trail hikes.
The+Camp+is+well+run+and+the+food+is+outstanding%2e++If+you+are+traveling+from+outside+Oregon+and+decide+to+take+Amtrak%2c+be+prepared+to+be+delayed%2e++The+camp+does+a+great+job+of+taking+care+of+out+of+council+troops%2e%0d%0a
This+camp+is+outstanding%2e+They+have+great+merit+badge+workshops+and+the+food+was+wonderfull%2e+I+think+you+should+all+check+out+this+camp%2e%0d%0a
Our+troop+attended+summer+camp+here+in+2005%2e++Though+the+setting+was+nice+we+were+displeased+with+a+number+of+other+aspects+including+the+food%2e++The+food+tended+to+run+short+on+most+occasions+leaving+the+boys+hungery%2e++Our+scouts+also+have+named+this+camp+%22Camp+Partial%22+because+those+conducting+the+merit+badge+workshops+rarely+signed+off+on+any+of+the+work+that+was+done+eventhough+it+was+completed%2e++Work+had+to+be+repeated+at+other+occasions+to+gain+badges%2e++I+am+hopeful+that+the+was+a+bump+in+the+road+for+this+camp+and+that+future+scouts+will+find+the+overall+experience+here+a+rewarding+and+memorable+one%2e%0d%0a
Our+troop+decided+to+book+two+weeks+of+summer+camp+this+year%2c+one+at+our+own+council+camp+and+one+at+Camp+Makualla%2e++I+can+honestly+say+that+I+am+shocked+that+they+earned+National+Camp+Accreditation%2e++The+archery+range+should+have+been+shut+down+as+dangerous%2e++The+rangemaster+had+previously+worked+in+aquatics+and+assigned+to+run+archery+just+prior+to+camp%2e++No+one+taking+archery+merit+badge+qualified+our+week+and+several+of+our+older+scouts+who+are+experienced+archer%27s+where+appalled+at+how+the+range+was+run%2e++A+visiting+Scoutmaster+from+an+outside+council+%28with+Archery+Rangemaster+experience%29+basically+took+over+the+range%2c+and+throw+out+3%2f4+of+the+arrows+as+too+dangerous+to+use%2e+Our+boys+taking+the+merit+badge+discribed+how+each+shot+they+need+to+examine+the+arrows+to+determine+if+thy+needed+to+shot+high%2c+low%2c+left+or+right+to+take+into+account+the+amount+the+arrow+would+curve+in+flight%2e++%0d%0aMost+Merit+badges+were+taught+by+staff+members+with+minimal+skills+and+training+and+requirements+were+signed+off+that+were+never+taught+or+completed%2e++Trail+to+First+Class+had+multiple+issues%2c+with+all+ranks+mixed+together+each+day+and+again%2c+skills+signed+off+as+completed+that+were+not+properly+addressed%2e++Some+areas+such+as+the+rifle+range%2c+aquatics+and+shotgun+range+were+very+good+and+the+staff+very+competent%2e++Meals+were+served+in+a+single+line+fashion+and+portions+were+minimal+to+be+kind%2e++There+was+always+a+salad+bar+and+canned+fruit%2fcottage+cheese+area+to+suppliment+the+miniscule+portions+of+food+that+was+served%2e++%0d%0aWhen+aspects+of+the+program+that+were+not+being+taught+properly+were+addressed+with+the+Program+Director%2c+the+answer+that+was+given+to+Scoutmasters+was+that+%22it+is+a+boy+run+program%22%2e++There+was+basically+no+accountability+by+the+leadership%2e++%0d%0a++Do+yourself+and+your+Scouts+a+favor+and+take+this+camp+off+your+list+until+significant+changes+occur%2e+%0d%0a
My+troop+went+last+summer+and+it+was+the+worst+time+of+our+entire+scouting+history+bad+food+and+that+is+what+there+was+of+it%2c+the+programs+were+poorly+run+trash+all+over+the+place+no+attention+to+detail%2c+the+mosquitoes+ran+in+wolf+packs%2c+the+camp+directors+had+no+clue+as+to+what+was+going+on++it+was+the+worst+time+we+ever+had+should+have+gotten+our+money+back%2e%0d%0aI+will+never+recommend+this+camp+and+if+asked+will+tell+them+not+to+go+to+this+camp%0d%0a
Our+troop+just+returned+from+Camp+Makualla+and+had+a+great+time%2e+The+camp+staff+was+awesome%2c+and+with+a+few+exceptions%2c+all+the+merit+badge+classes+were+good%2e+The+facilities+were+a+little+tired%2c+tents+were+old+and+patched%2c+and+the+shower+houses+are+in+dire+need+of+replacement+%28according+to+the+camp%2c+they+will+be+replaced+this+winter%29%2e+The+waterfront+program+was+the+best+run+program+I%27ve+ever+seen%2c+and+the+lake+during+the+first+week+of+August+was+very+warm%2e+Dust+and+mosquitoes+are+bad%2c+be+sure+to+buy+an+%22I+gave+blood+at+Camp+Makualla%22+patch%21+The+high+adventure+program+was+second+to+none%2c+our+scouts+who+participated+in+it+had+nothing+but+rave+reviews%2e+Overall%2c+one+of+the+better+camps+I%27ve+attended+as+either+a+scout+or+leader%2e+I%27d+recommend+the+camp+for+any+troop%2e%0d%0a
I+wish+I+would+have+known+about+this+site+before+going+to+Camp+Makualla%2e++We+attended+Week+3+and+were+disappointed%2e++This+camp+is+in+dire+need+of+an+overhaul+in+leadership%2e++Food+was+poor+but+got+better+as+the+week+went+on%2e++We+were+told+the+camp+cook+quit+at+the+beginning+of+the+season+and+the+current+cook+was+appointed+because+he+worked+at+the+local+Subway+sandwich+shop%2e++%0d%0aEnroute+to+the+camp%2c+we+received+an+email+saying+several+of+the+merit+badge+classes+were+being+cancelled+due+to+lack+of+adequate+staffing%2e+++During+our+arrival+camp+tour%2c+the+range+staff+was+fired+and+the+shooting+merit+badges+were+cancelled%2e++Luckily+there+was+an+NRA+certified+instructor+from+a+Troop+attending+camp+that+took+over%2e++Several+other+MBs+were+taken+over+by+attending+adult+campers%2e++A+number+of+other+MBs+were+laughable%2e++Fingerprinting+took+less+than+20+minutes+to+%22earn%22+and+others+were+just+rushed+through+and+not+taught%2e++Several+complaints+from+our+Scouts+about+not+learning+anything+during+camp+MB+classes%2e++A+number+of+classes+let+out+15%2d20+minutes+into+the+class+and+others+had+MB+counselors+just+not+show+up%2e++%0d%0aThe+Camp+Director+seemed+to+be+in+a+bad+mood+the+entire+week+and+there+was+definite+friction+amongst+the+adult+staff+with+the+Program+Director+quitting+in+the+middle+of+the+week%2e++Information+flow+was+virtually+non+existent+with+last+minute+changes+constantly+occurring%2e++Frustrating+and+hard+to+coordinate+all+week+long%2e++%0d%0aThe+High+Adventure+courses+and+then+Scuba+for+Discovery+classes+were+awesome%2c+probably+because+they+were+organized+and+taught+by+outside+companies%2e++The+river+rafting+trip+is+not+to+be+missed%2e++Definitely+a+blast%21++%0d%0aThe+location+of+the+camp+was+beautiful+and+the+camp+has+potential%2c+however%2c+with+current+camp+leadership+problems+its+not+worth+the+time+or+money+to+attend%2e++A+number+of+adult+staff+openly+commented+throughout+the+week+that+they+won%27t+be+back+next+year+and+are+eagerly+awaiting+this+season+to+be+over%2e++The+lack+of+leadership+severely+impacted+the+week%2e++%0d%0aOur+boys+had+fun+overall+despite+the+disorganization+and+used+the+confusion+to+come+together+as+a+unit+and+make+it+fun+anyway%2e+++Many+of+the+boys+realized+how+easy+it+was+to+%22earn%22+MBs+and+%22earned%22+quite+a+few%2e++The+MBs+taught+by+the+visiting+Troops+were+awesome%2c+made+the+Scouts+complete+all+necessary+requirements+and+were+actually+earned%2e++The+MBs+taught+by+camp+staff%2c+in+large+part%2c+were+simply+given+away+without+any+effort+by+the+Scouts%2e++We+will+be+going+over+earned+MBs+in+the+coming+months+to+make+sure+our+Scouts+actually+understand+the+MB+requirements%2e+++%0d%0aWe+will+not+be+back+and+will+not+recommend+this+camp%2e+++%0d%0a
