One of Maryland's few remaining large nature preserves, Broad Creek has enough terrain to host dozens of troops. Parts of its hiking trails rival the Appalachian Trail in beauty and ruggedness in some areas. Dave Wissert, the Camp Ranger, is a great Scouter who will do almost anything to help a visiting Troop. In addition to resident Summer Camp, we have used parts of this huge reservation for many, many weekend camp outs, including wilderness survival, distance backpacking, Pioneering, search & rescue, etc. Only 75 minutes from downtown Baltimore. Has a 24 hour Ranger Station, swimming pools, a nice lake,latrines, showers, primitive campsites, adirondacs, cabins, and lodges.

Broad Creek has a summer camp program that is just for Cub Scouts and Webelos. The Camp Oest program is fantastic. A parent or guardian must accompany each scout. My son and I first attended during the summer of 1999. We had such a good time that we convinced my wife to go with us during the summer of 2000. The staff is excellent. You will not find a more enthusiastic bunch anywhere. If you want a camping experience with your son that you will remember for the rest of your life, take him to Camp Oest. My son will bridge over to Boy Scouts in the spring of 2002, so our 2001 trip to Camp Oest at Broad Creek will be our last. I'll miss it.
