Our troop has been there the last two years and will go again this year.

The LCRA / Lost Pines Scout Reservation (LPSR) is located on Lake Bastrop and is leased from the Lower Colorado River Authority. The Lost Pines as there is an island of pine trees, separated from other East Texas pines by a hundred miles or so.

We've been the last 3 years and are going again in 2000--a great program.

I+spent+the+past+week+at+my+council%27s+summer+camp%2c+the+Lost+Pines+Scout+Reservation+near+Bastrop%2c+Texas%2c+with+46+Scouts+and+6+adults+from+our+troop+attending%2e%0d%0a+%0d%0aThe+weather+was+very+hot+and+humid+with+the+temperature+reaching+113+degress+on+June+14+and+into+the+high+90s+or+low+100s+every+other+day%2e++Even+with+the+unusual+weather+%28even+for+Texas%29%2c+we+had+a+great+time%21%0d%0a+%0d%0aThis+was+our+troop%27s+first+summer+camp+visit+to+Lost+Pines+since+1993+as+we+travel+around+to+different+camps%2c+both+in+and+outside+of+Texas%2e++I+can+honestly+say+that+Lost+Pines+ranks+among+the+best+camps+I%27ve+attended%2e%0d%0a+%0d%0aLost+Pines+offers+a+complete+merit+badge+program+featuring+an+outstanding+aquatics+program+%28including+Motorboating%2c+Water+Skiing+and+Small+Boat+Sailing%29%2c+an+excellent+C%2eO%2eP%2eE%2e+program+and%2c+from+what+I+heard%2c+a+very+high+quality+program+for+first+year+campers+working+on+Tenderfoot+through+First+Class%2e++The+food+was+as+good+as+any+other+camp+I%27ve+attended%2e%0d%0a+%0d%0aThe+camp+administration%2c+including+the+three+Commissioners%2c+did+an+excellent+job+addressing+problems+and+offering+help+throughout+the+week%2c+and+I+can%27t+imagine+a+camp+being+operated+any+better%2e%0d%0a+%0d%0aIf+you+are+interested+in+booking+a+reservation+at+Lost+Pines+a+%24100+deposit+is+required%2e++%0d%0a+%0d%0aYiS%2c%0d%0a%2d%2d%0d%0aCalvin+H%2e+Gray%0d%0aScoutmaster%2c+Troop+405%0d%0aGeorgetown%2c+Texas%0d%0amailto%3a405geezer%40igg%2dtx%2enet%0d%0amailto%3ascoutmaster%40troop405%2eorg%0d%0ahttp%3a%2f%2fwww%2etroop405%2eorg%0d%0a%0d%0a

We+just+got+back+from+Winter+Camp+2002+and+the+program+was+just+fantastic%2e++Even+though+we+had+some+of+the+coldest+days+on+record+for+the+past+two+years+the+staff+was+upbeat+%26+enthusiastic%2c+the+camp+food+was+always+hot+%26+on+time+%2d+and+they+always+prepared+plenty+of+seconds+so+everyone+got+as+much+as+they+wanted%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aThe+Trading+Post+had+a+few+suprises+with+a+bunch+of+new+books+and+Scouting+Resources+I+have+never+come+across+before%2e++It+was+a+welcomed+addition%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aThe+Winter+Camp+here+fills+up+early+%2d+I+wish+they+could+find+a+way+to+add+a+third+session+next+year+because+the+program+is+that+good+and+there+is+clearly+a+demand+for+it%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aThe+only+sad+note+was+the+loss+of+the+Pine+Trees+to+those+darn+bugs%21++Lost+Pines+has+lost+it%27s+Pines%2e++I+hope+the+council+can+find+a+way+to+plant+some+saplings+so+scouts+coming+to+the+camp+can+experience+the+unique+ecosystem+that+makes+Lost+Pines+such+a+famous+and+interesting+ecological+gem+in+Texas%2e%0d%0a

Improvements+are+underway+at+Lost+Pines+Scout+Reservation%2e++The+camp+of+some+500%2b+acres+was+fully+acquired+from+LCRA%2e++Besides+a+new+state+of+the+art+Health+Lodge+%26+Training+Center+%28Lindsey+Lodge%29+the+camp+has+a+modern+Administration+Building+and+Trading+Post%2e++%0d%0a%0d%0aIn+2000+the+council+completed+a+new+modern+centralized+kitchen+that+serves+Lost+Pines%2c+Tom+Wooten%2c+and+when+complete%2c+the+Griffith+League+Scout+Ranch%2e++It+is+one+of+the+best+equiped+Scout+Camp+Food+Service+Facilities+anywhere%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aEvery+weekend+yearround+Lost+Pines+has+a+corps+of+Campmasters+with+a+cabin+right+at+the+front+gate+to+welcome+in+visiting+troops+and+assist+with+check+in%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aSeveral+major+improvements+are+nearing+completion+in+time+for+the+2002+Summer+Camp+Season%2e++The+open+air+dining+hall+is+being+enclosed+with+a+modern+Heating+%26+Cooling+system+added+%2d+something+that+will+be+much+appreciated+during+Summer+%26+Winter+Camp%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aThe+camp+is+also+making+electrical+and+facility+improvements+to+the+Nature+%26+Handicraft+areas+as+well+as+adding+25+canoes%2e++%0d%0a%0d%0aCheck+out+Camp+Tom+Wooten+for+a+huge+news+about+the+new+swimming+pool+THE+SIZE+OF+TWO+FOOTBALL+FIELDS+that+will+be+going+on%2dline+in+2003%2e++It+is+just+awesome%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aThis+is+a+great+camp+to+visit%2c+off+season+or+for+sumer+camp%2e++The+camp+is+convienant+for+troops+from+Austin%2c+Bryan%2c+Houston%2c+and+San+Antonio%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aThe+area+is+rich+in+history+%26+culture%2e++The+nearby+Colorado+River+offers+Canoeing%2c+there+are+a+number+of+museums+in+the+area+as+well+as+TWO+state+parks+and+other+recreational+facilities%2e++The+Lost+Pines+area+is+geographically+and+ecologically+unique%2c+providing+habitat+for+many+rare+species+including+the+Houston+Toad%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aCome+and+Experience+Lost+Pines+%2d+It+was+one+of+the+18+featured+camps+in+the+Scout+Camps+USA+2nd+Edition+%2d+people+all+over+the+country+are+talking+about+this+great+facility%2e%0d%0a

As+a+past+staff+member+of+Lost+Pines+and+as+an+experienced+scout+who+has+this+camp+memorized+it+personally+ranks+up+there+with+Philmont+and+NortherTier%0d%0a

+each+day%2e++Fortunately%2c+we+brought+a+large+30%27x16%27+tarp+for+shade+and+it+was+certainly+needed%2e+This+site+really+needs+several+covered+shelters+if+is+going+to+continue+to+be+used+for+summer+camp%2e%0d%0a%0d%0a%0d%0aFire+Ants%0d%0a%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%0d%0aGrade+%3d+D%0d%0aThese+annoying+pests+were+a+problem+throughout+the+week%2e++This+could+be+reduced+if+Lost+Pines+would+broadcast+Amdro+several+weeks+prior+to+the%0d%0asummer+camp+season%2c+and+then+follow+up+with+another+application+after+the+staff+training+week%2e%0d%0a%0d%0a%0d%0aTents%2c+Platforms+and+Cots%0d%0a%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%0d%0aWall+tents+may+be+rented+but+we+used+our+own+tents%2e+The+camp+does+not+provide+platforms+or+cots%2e%0d%0a%0d%0a%0d%0aLatrine+%26+Shower+Facilities%0d%0a%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%0d%0aGrade+%3d+B%0d%0aA+central+facility%2c+with+separate+areas+for+Scouts+and+adults%2c+was+shared+with+another+campsite%2e++No+significant+programs+other+than+the%0d%0afact+that+there+was+sometimes+a+significant+waiting+time+for+adults+to+use+the+facilities+as+only+two+adults+could+be+present+during+any+given%0d%0atime%2e%0d%0a%0d%0a%0d%0aMerit+Badge+Program%0d%0a%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%0d%0aGrade%3a+A%0d%0aGenerally%2c+the+merit+badge+classes+were+excellent+and+our+Scouts+enjoyed+them%2e++Even+with+the+large+number+of+Scouts+at+camp%2c+the+classes+seemed+to+be+adequately+staffed+and+I+didn%27t+see+any+problems+when+I+toured+the%0d%0avarious+MB+areas+on+Wednesday%2e++Instead+of+providing+individual+merit+badge+cards+or+blue+cards+at+the+end+of+camp%2c+each+troop+was+provided%0d%0awith+a+computer+generated+report+%28sorted+by+Scout%29+showing+completed+merit+badges+and+partials%2e++I+like+this+much+better+than+having+to+sort+and+try+and+keep+the+merit+badge+cards+still+used+by+most+of+the+camps+we+attend%2e%0d%0a%0d%0a%0d%0aFirst+Year+Camper+Program+%28aka+Eagle+Quest%29%0d%0a%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%0d%0aWe+didn%27t+participate+but%2c+from+what+I+observed%2c+this+looked+like+an+excellent+program%2e++It+was+staffed+entirely+by+Eagle+Scouts%2c+and+seemed%0d%0ato+be+adequately+staffed%2e%0d%0a%0d%0a%0d%0aActivities+for+Older+Scouts%0d%0a%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%0d%0aGrade%3a+A%0d%0a%3eFrom+what+I+heard%2c+the+C%2eO%2eP%2eE%2e+program+was+excellent+and+there+was+a+backpacking+program+too%2e++Also%2c+a+Living+History+program+%28somewhat%0d%0asimilar+to+Mountain+Man+programs+at+other+camps%29+which+looked+interesting%2e++The+camp+has+a+new+65%27+rappelling+tower+%28the+tallest+tower+at+any+Texas+Scout+camp%29%2e%0d%0a%0d%0a%0d%0aSpecial+Activities%0d%0a%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%0d%0aGrade%3a+B%0d%0aThere+were+several+special+activities+including+a+%22blob%22+and+a+water+trampoline+at+the+water+front%2e++The+opening+and+closing+campfire%0d%0aprograms+were+nice+and+weren%27t+too+long%2e++Friday+was+%22make%2dup%22+day+and+the+staff+was+available+to+help+Scouts+finish+badges%2e%0d%0a%0d%0a%0d%0aChapel+Program%0d%0a%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%0d%0aGrade%3a+B%0d%0aNice+location+but+a+sound+system+is+needed+for+this%2e%0d%0a%0d%0a%0d%0aOrder+of+the+Arrow+Activities%0d%0a%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%0d%0aGrade%3a+A%0d%0aMembers+of+Tonkawa+Lodge+99+performed+an+impressive+call+out+ceremony+during+the+closing+campfire+on+Friday+night%2e++An+OA+ice+cream+social+was+held+one+night%2e%0d%0a%0d%0a%0d%0aDining+Hall+and+Food%0d%0a%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%0d%0aGrade%3a+B%0d%0aThe+air+conditioned+dining+hall+is+excellent%2e++The+food+was+about+what+I%27ve+seen+at+other+camps+but+a+couple+of+meals+%28biscuits+for+breakfast%0d%0aand+lunch+meat+sandwiches+for+lunch%29+weren%27t+very+popular+with+our+Scouts%2e+%22Seconds%22+were+usually+available%2e++Campers+had+to+eat+in+two%0d%0ashifts+but+this+didn%27t+appear+to+cause+problems%2e++On+Friday+evening%2c+campers+could+choose+either+fried+or+barbecued+chicken%2e%0d%0a%0d%0a%0d%0aTrading+Post%0d%0a%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%0d%0aGrade%3a+A%0d%0aAdequate%2c+with+a+better+stock+than+most+camps+I%27ve+attended%2e%0d%0a%0d%0a%0d%0aOther+Buildings%2fFacilities%0d%0a%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%0d%0aGrade%3a+B%0d%0aOther+facilities+were+good%2e++A+basketball+court+has+been+constructed+near+the+dining+hall+and+Scouts+enjoyed+this%2e++The+new+rappelling+tower%0d%0ais+excellent+and+air+conditioning+the+dining+hall+has+fixed+a+long+standing+problem%2e++The+major+drawback+is+that+Lost+Pines+needs+a+second%0d%0aswimming+pool+%28or+a+much+larger+pool%29+to+accommodate+the+Scouts+participating+in+aquatics+activities%2e++Du +My+troop+spent+a+week+at+lost+pines+last+summer+and+the+staff%2c+sites%2c+and+experince+was+great%2c+but+the+troop+didn%27t+like+the+food%2e+I+would+say+the+best+thing+about+eating+time+would+be+the+air+condition+though%2eThe+temperature+got+up+to+about+105+degrees+ferienheit+in+the+middle+of+the+day%2c+but+we+had+a+grat+time+over+all%2e%0d%0a

Fire+ants+were+a+big+problem+as+mentioned+in+another+post%2e++The+ant+problem+was+made+worse+in+that+the+area+was+pounded+with+unusually+heavy+rain+late+June+through+early+July+2007%2e++We+did+not+know+were+the+ant+mounds+were+until+the+few+dry+periods%2e++Our+camp+site+was+not+guaranteed+prior+again+as+mentioned+above%2e++The+camp+pool+is+dated+with+no+lines+or+markings%2e++The+food+was+reheated+and+the+milk+and+orange+juice+were+sometimes+spoiled%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aThe+staff+was+mature%2c+frendly%2c+and+many+were+returning+camp+staff+veterans%2e++Some+staff+members+would+join+the+boys+in+their+games+back+at+the+camp+site%2e++The+dining+facility+was+air+conditioned%2e++The+OA+call+out+was+nice+followed+by+fireworks+at+the+lake%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aThe+pool+staff+was+excellent+in+providing+mile+swim%2c+Life+Saving%2c+and+BSA+Lifeguard+programs%2e++I+was+told+that+other+camps+might+make+the+Lifeguard+program+a+real+burden%3b++Lost+Pines+did+not%2e++There+are+plenty+of+opportunities+to+meet+the+Lifeguard+requirements+in+the+week+of+camp%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aThe+climbing+wall+is+huge%2e++The+demand+was+low+for+the+clinbing+program%2c+so+the+staff+provided+an+adult+climbing+wall+certification+program%2e++Many+adults+attended%2e%0d%0a%0d%0a

Our+troop+won%27t+be+using+Lost+Pines%2e+They+charge+out+of+council+troops+%245%2e00+per+person+for++overnight+camping%2e+That+is+pretty+steep%2e+We+will+be+staying+in+a+Corps+of+Engineers+park+for+less+than+a+third+of+that+price%2e+%0d%0a

Last+week+%28June+13%2d19%2c+2010%29%2c+our+troop+attended+summer+camp+at+the+Lost%0d%0aPines+Scout+Reservation+near+Bastrop+TX%2e++The+camp+is+operated+by+the%0d%0aCapitol+Area+Council+in+Austin%2e++This+was+my+32nd+summer+camp+trip+%2812%0d%0adifferent+camps%29+and+our+troop%27s+first+stay+at+our+council%27s+summer+camp%0d%0asince+2004%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aWe+had+34+Scouts+along+with+15+adults+attending+camp+for+at+least+one%0d%0anight%2e++Only+2+adults+were+at+camp+the+whole+week%2e++The+camp+fee+was+%24210%0d%0aper+Scout%2e++Four+adults+%28for+bringing+over+30+Scouts%29+were+free+with+the%0d%0afee+%2470+for+additional+adults%2e+In+addition+to+the+cost+of+kits+for%0d%0aBasketry%2c+Indian+Lore%2c+Leatherwork+and+Wood+Carving%2c+additional+fees+were%0d%0acharged+for+these+badges%3a%0d%0a+Archery+++++++++++++%24+5%0d%0a+Aviation++++++++++++%24+5%0d%0a+Chemistry+++++++++++%24+5%0d%0a+Cinematography++++++%24+5%0d%0a+Climbing++++++++++++%2410%0d%0a+Composite+Materials+%2410%0d%0a+Cooking+++++++++++++%2410%0d%0a+Golf++++++++++++++++%2425%0d%0a+Metalwork+++++++++++%2410%0d%0a+Motorboating++++++++%2410%0d%0a+Photography+++++++++%2410%0d%0a+Rifle+Shooting++++++%2410%0d%0a+Sculpture+++++++++++%24+5%0d%0a+Shotgun+Shooting++++%2425%0d%0a+Space+Exploration+++%2410%0d%0a+Water+Sports++++++++%2425%0d%0a%0d%0aAs+far+as+the+evaluations+below%2c+these+ratings+are+used%3a%0d%0a++A+%3d+Excellent%0d%0a++B+%3d+Above+Average%0d%0a++C+%3d+Average%0d%0a++D+%3d+Below+Average%0d%0a++F+%3d+Unsatisfactory%0d%0a%0d%0a%0d%0aPre+Camp+Information+and+Ease+of+Arranging+the+Trip%0d%0a%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%0d%0aGrade+%3d+B%2d%0d%0aThe+Leaders%27+Guide+needs+to+be+revised+as+portions+are+outdated%2e++The%0d%0aguide+was+provided+as+a+%2epdf+document%2e++It+would+have+been+nice+to+have+it%0d%0aas+a+Word+document+too%2e++A+DVD+about+Lost+Pines%27+summer+camp+is+available%0d%0abut+it+needs+to+be+revised+too%2e%0d%0a%0d%0a%0d%0aMerit+Badge+%26+Activity+Registration+System%0d%0a%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%0d%0aGrade+%3d+A%0d%0aEven+though+a+decision+was+made+to+go+from+a+4%2dperiod+per+day+to+a%0d%0a5%2dperiod+per+day+schedule+after+we+had+sent+in+our+merit+badges%0d%0aselections%2c+I%27m+giving+this+a+high+rating+due+to+the+fact+the+Office%0d%0aManager+was+very+helpful+in+providing+a+relatively+%22painless%22+process+as%0d%0afar+as+revising+our+Scouts%27+schedules%2e++This+excellent+support+prior+to%0d%0acamp+really+helped%2e%0d%0a%0d%0a%0d%0aCheck+in%2fout+Process+%2d+Arrival+%26+Departure%0d%0a%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%0d%0aArrival+Grade%3a+C%0d%0aAfter+arrival+and+medical+re%2dchecks%2c+the+first+thing+on+the+agenda+was+a%0d%0atour+of+the+camp%2e++After+the+tour%2c+campers+were+issued+water+bottles+%28in%0d%0athe+dining+hall%29+to+use+at+meals+and+program+areas+during+the+week%2e++It%0d%0awould+have+been+much+better+to+issue+the+water+bottles+before+the+camp%0d%0atour+so+campers+would+have+water+to+drink+during+the+tour%2e+We+did+our+swim%0d%0achecks+prior+to+arrival+so+we+avoided+the+typically+swimming+pool%0d%0abottleneck+present+at+most+other+camps%2e++According+to+several+other%0d%0aleaders%2c+there+was+a+significant+bottleneck+during+the+time+in+which+one%0d%0aadult+from+each+troop+met+with+the+camp+Business+Manager+to+pay+final%0d%0afees%2c+etc%2e++This+wasn%27t+a+problem+for+us+but+I+see+where+it+probably+was%0d%0afor+troops+arriving+later+in+the+day%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aOne+thing+missing+was+a+list+of+%22Scoutmaster+Notes%22+which+would+have+been%0d%0anice+to+have+rather+than+having+to+take+notes+during+the+initial+leaders%27%0d%0ameeting+on+Sunday+night%2e++A+few+camps+seem+to+do+this+but+Lost+Pines+isn%27t%0d%0aone+of+them%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aDeparture+Grade%3a+A%0d%0aOn+Saturday+morning%2c+we+had+a+continental+breakfast%2c+packed+up%2c+made+sure%0d%0athe+campsite+was+clean+and+were+on+the+way+home+by+9+a%2em%2e%0d%0a%0d%0a%0d%0aCamp+Administration%0d%0a%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%0d%0aGrade+%3d+A%0d%0aEven+though+the+Lost+Pines+has+a+relatively+new+Camp+Director+and+a+brand%0d%0anew+Program+Director+%28about+a+month+on+the+job%29%2c+most+aspects+of+camp%0d%0aseemed+to+go+well%2e++Issues+were+addressed+promptly+and+I+was+impressed+by%0d%0aboth+the+Camp+Director+and+Program+Director%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aAt+least+twice+during+leaders%27+meetings%2c+%22progress+reports%22+on+merit%0d%0abadges+were+provided+to+each+troop%2e++On+Saturday%2c+a+final+report%2c+sorted%0d%0aby+merit+badge%2c+was+provided%2e++This+made+it+very+easy+to+input+information%0d%0ato+TroopMaster+after+we+returned+home%2e++If+needed%2c+the+software+can+also%0d%0aproduce+completed+blue+cards%2e++However%2c+I%27m+not+aware+that+any+troops%0d%0arequired+these+so+this+feature+probably+wasn%27t+used%2e++The+bottom+line+is%0d%0athat+Lost+Pines+has+a+very+complete+reporting+system%2e%0d%0a%0d%0a%0d%0aCamp+Commissioner+Program%0d%0a%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%0d%0aGrade+%3d+A%2b%0d%0aYear+in+and+year+out%2c+Lost+Pines+has+the+best+Commissioner+Program+I%27ve%0d%0aseen%2e+Daily+meetings+were+held+with+SPLs+after+lunch+and+with+an+adult+rep%0d%0afrom+each+troop+at+2+p%2em%2e++Other+camps+should+emulate+Lost+Pines+in+this%0d%0aarea%2e%0d%0a%0d%0a%0d%0aCamp+Staff%0d%0a%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%0d%0aGrade%3a+B%2b%0d%0aOverall%2c+the+staff+was+competent%2e++There+were+a+few+areas+in+which+the%0d%0amerit+badge+instruction+was+weak+but+there+was+only+one+really+significant%0d%0aproblem+class+%28Environmental+Science%29%2e%0d%0a%0d%0a%0d%0aCampsite%0d%0a%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%0d%0aGrade+%3d+A%0d%0aWe+stayed+in+the+San+Gabriel+campsite%2e++Although+30%25%2d40%25+of+the+large+pine%0d%0atrees+that+were+once+there+are+gone+%28drought+%26+pine+bark+beetle+damage%29%2c%0d%0athe+site+is+still+nice%2e++Our+Scouts+especially+enjoyed+the+fishing+hole%0d%0ajust+behind+our+campsite+as+they+were+catching+fish+throughout+the+week%2e%0d%0a%0d%0a%0d%0aFire+Ants%0d%0a%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%0d%0aGrade+%3d+A%0d%0aThere+were+no+Fire+Ants%2e%0d%0a%0d%0a%0d%0aTicks+%26+Mosquitoes%0d%0a%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%0d%0aGrade+%3d+B%0d%0aA+few+ticks+and+lots+of+mosquitoes%2c+which+repellent+seem+to+keep+at+bay%0d%0afor+the+most+part%2e%0d%0a%0d%0a%0d%0aTents%2c+Platforms+and+Cots%0d%0a%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%0d%0aWall+tents+%26+platforms+were+available+for+%2410+rental+with+about+20%25+of+our%0d%0acampers+using+them%2e++Most+of+our+campers+used+their+own+tents%2e%0d%0a%0d%0a%0d%0aLatrine+%26+Shower+Facilities%0d%0a%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%0d%0aGrade+%3d+C%0d%0aAdequate+for+youth+members%2e++Very+inadequate+for+adults+with+long+waits+to%0d%0ause+the+showers+at+night%2e%0d%0a%0d%0a%0d%0aMerit+Badge+Program%0d%0a%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%0d%0aGrade%3a+A%0d%0aMost+of+the+merit+badge+classes+were+excellent%2e++There+was+a+very+nice%0d%0avariety+of+badges%2e++Class+sessions+were+Monday%2dThursday+with+Friday%0d%0amorning+a+%22make%2dup%22+time+for+Scouts+to+complete+badges%2e%0d%0a%0d%0a%0d%0aFirst+Year+Camper+Program%0d%0a%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%0d%0aWe+didn%27t+participate%2e++During+the+afternoon+leaders%27+meetings%2c+comments%0d%0aseemed+to+indicate+several+of+the+patrols+were+too+large+but+the+quality%0d%0aof+instruction+was+excellent%2e%0d%0a%0d%0a%0d%0aSpecial+Activities%0d%0a%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%0d%0aGrade%3a+C%0d%0aThis+was+a+disappointment+as+there+were+no+%22Campwide+Games%22+on+Friday%0d%0aafternoon+as+advertised+in+the+Leaders%27+Guide%2e++This+is+where+the+camp%27s%0d%0aoverall+program+could+be+significantly+improved%2e%0d%0a%0d%0a%0d%0aSpecial+Programs+for+Older+Scouts%0d%0a%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%0d%0aGrade%3a+B%0d%0aC%2eO%2eP%2eE%2e+was+available+and+I+seem+to+remember+another+program+for+older%0d%0aScouts+but+we+didn%27t+have+any+participants%2e%0d%0a%0d%0a%0d%0aDining+Hall+%26+Food%0d%0a%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%0d%0aGrade%3a+A%2d%0d%0aMeals+were+served+in+two+shifts+as+the+dining+hall+isn%27t+large+enough+to%0d%0ahold+all+campers%2e++We+were+in+the+%22A+Shift%22+and+didn%27t+encounter+any%0d%0asignificant+problems+that+I+could+see%2e++We+experienced+the+typical+%22first%0d%0aweek+of+camp%22+disorganization+but+this+wasn%27t+a+major+problem%2e%0d%0a%0d%0a%0d%0aOverall+Infrastructure%0d%0a%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%0d%0aGrade%3a+C%0d%0aIf+there+were+any+improvements+at+Lost+Pines+since+our+last+visit+in+2004%2c%0d%0aI+didn%27t+see+them%2e++The+%22Blob%22+our+Scouts+enjoyed+in+2004+is+no+longer+in%0d%0aoperation%2e++A+new+sound+system+in+the+dining+hall+is+desperately+needed%2e%0d%0aTo+me%2c+the+most+significant+need+is+a+new+swimming+pool%2e%0d%0a%0d%0a%0d%0aAdult+Training%0d%0a%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%0d%0aGrade%3a+B%0d%0aCPR+was+offered+but+there+was+no+general+announcement+so+only+3+people%0d%0awere+in+the+class%2e++Leave+No+Trace+training+was+offered%2e++So+was+Climbing%0d%0aInstructor+training+and+we+had+two+adults+complete+this+training%2e++Safety%0d%0aAfloat+and+Safe+Swim+Defense+were+available+too%2e%0d%0a%0d%0a%0d%0aChapel+Program%0d%0a%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%0d%0aA+chapel+program+was+offered+one+night%2e%0d%0a%0d%0a%0d%0aOpening+%26+Closing+Campfires%0d%0a%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%2d%0d%0aApparently%2c+a+thief+had+stolen+t
