Nice+camp%2c+great+program%2c+but+the+layout+can+make+things+tiresome+as+it+is+in+a+very+long+valley+that+can+make+getting+to+some+things+%28like+the+COPE+course%29+a+very+long+hike%2e++However%2c+the+food+was+the+worst+of+any+camp+I%27ve+seen%2e%0d%0a

I%27ve+heard+great+things+about+the+2006+summer+camp+season+%2e%2e%2e+a+new+Mataguay+Fur+Company+teaching+pioneer+skills%2c+new+Eagle+Camp+for+older+Scouts%2c+even+an+aviation+merit+badge+class+with+a+glider+flight+out+of+Warner+Springs+airport%21++Plus%2c+all+campsites+have+been+redesigned+to+patrol%2dbased+sites+%2e%2e%2e+more+spread+out%2e%0d%0a

Mataguay+is+fun%2c+and+has+lots+of+programs%2c+merit+badges%2c+swimming%2c+fishing%2c+shooting%2c+archery%2c+and+lots+of+great+Scouts+and+adult+leaders%2e++We+had+a+blast%2e++Going+back+again+I+hope+%21%21%21%0d%0a

This+is+an+excellent+Boy+Scout+summer+camp%2d%2dvery+attentive+staff%2c+unique+merit+badges+including+Aviation+which+gives+Scouts+and+leaders+who+drive+them+a+chance+to+experience+a+glider+ride%2e++Awesome%21+Food+was+excellent%2c+but+could+use+more+of+it%2e++Camp+sites+are+nice%2c+and+upgrades+to+all+facilities+are+either+in+place+or+in+the+works%2e++Impressive+camp+overall%2e%0d%0a

I+have+staffed+MSR+for+7+years%2e++The+camp+is+finaly+back+on+top+with+a+brand+new+program+concept%21++Instead+of+normal+meritbadge+sessions+%28school+style%29%2c+we+are+incorporating+blocks+of+time+dedicated+to+learning+skills%2c+and+just+happen+to+include+merit+badge+requirements%21++An+example+is+the+Messenger+program+that+incorporates+Journalism%2c+Photography%2c+Radio+into+a+program+that+allows+scouts+to+be+editors+of+the+camp+newspaper+for+a+week%21%0d%0a

As+our+local+council+camp+in+San+Diego+we+send+a+contingent+there+every+summer%2c+along+with+another+group+that+goes+%22long+range%22+to+other+camps%2e+%0d%0aMataguay+is+located+at+about+3800+ft+elevation+with+a+small+lake+%28canoeing%2frowing%29+and+two+pools%2c+plus+another+small+lake+for+fishing+merit+badge%2e+Camp+sites+have+plenty+of+shade+%28California+scrub+oaks%29%2c+tents+on+platforms%2c+fire+pits%2c+water+and+mostly+primitive+%22kybos%22%2e+Indidual%2fprivate+Flush+toilet+and+hot+showers+are+at+Parker+Pool%2e+It+boasts+a+COPE+course%2c+Horsemanship+%28with+20%2b+horses+on%2dsite%29%2c+and+the+west%27s+only+aviation+merit+badge+which+includes+a+glider+ride+out+of+nearby+Warner+Springs%2e+The+merit+badge+courses+are+now+organized+into+sessions+that+are+grouped+into+logical+sets%2e+%0d%0a%0d%0aThe+staff+is+excellent%2c+the+food+was+good+this+year+%28usually+better%2c+though%29%2c+and+the+Friday+night+campfire+is+one+of+the+best%2e+Scouts+can+bring+bikes+as+camp+is+fairly+flat+as+it+lies+in+a+valley%2e%0d%0aWednesday+night+scouts+choose+an+out+of+camp+group+experience+called+Rugged+Outdoors+%28Rugged+O%27s%29%2c+so+the+adults+end+up+with+a+quiet+night+alone+in+camp%2e%0d%0aAbout+a+one+hour+drive+from+San+Diego+or+Temecula%2c+Mataguay+will+provide+advancement+for+either+the+young+trail%2dto%2dfirst+class+scout%2c+or+the+scout+seeking+merit+badges+and+adventure%2e%0d%0a

Troop+just+returned+from+a+week+at+Mataguay%2e++Pros%3a+a+variety+of+merit+badges+offered+including+aviation%2c+generally+nice+location+and+most+campsites+have+shade%3b+has+a+pool+for+free+time+and+for+specific+merit+badges%3b+staff+good+about+accommodating+change+requests%3b+food+pretty+good%3b+counselors+pretty+good+group%3b+fun+campfires%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aCons%3a++Administrative+miscommunication+prior+to+camp+such+as+not+telling+troop+that+there+would+be+3+campers+per+tent%3b+lots+of+fire+ants%2c+spiders%2c+raccoons%3b+long+distances+between+activities+which+is+OK+for+Scouts+but+a+bit+more+difficult+for+adults+to+visit+said+activities+so+good+to+bring+mountain+bikes%3b+didn%27t+have+merit+badges+ready+as+promised+on+Friday+afternoon+or+even+Friday+night+by+10%3a30+so+left+without+knowing+which+Scouts+had+completed+their+MBs%3b+only+flush+toilets+at+Parker+pool%2d%2dall+the+rest+either+a+kybo+or+porta%2dpotty%3b+most+problems+seemed+to+be+on+administrative+end%0d%0a
