Three large group campgrounds with open-sided shelters and campfire rings, water nearby. Wooded hills overlooking large COE lake. 30 mile loop hiking trail follows portion of mid-1800s military trail. One hour west of Kansas City, same to Ft. Leavenworth. Reservations required for campgrounds; hiking open year round - avoid fall deer hunting season. Hikers primitive campground midway on west loop of trail.
