July+2010+We+took+our+troop+to+Camp+Laramie+Peak%2e+It+was+a+reopening%2c+after+being+closed+for+a+while+after+a+forest+fire%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aThe+camp+was+great+and+the+Merit+Badge+program+was+excellent%2e+It+is+a+small+camp+and+so+the+choices+of+merit+badges+was+small%2c+but+they+wanted+to+make+sure+the+boys+earned+their+merit+badges%2e+They+state+that+it+is+not+a+merit+badge+factory%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aWith+it+being+their+90th+anniversary%2c+they+were+the+3rd+scout+camp+in+the+US%2c+they+had+several+item+special+for+the+year%2e+Lion+Patrol+was+one+of+the+activities+that+the+scouts+could+do+instead+of+a+merit+badge%2e+Lion+Patrol+was+a+opportunity+for+the+boys+to+learn+what+scouts+did+90+years+ago+when+the+camp+was+created%2e+It+could+have+been+better%2c+but+it+was+an+open+time+and+so+no+pre%2dregistration+was+needed%2e+As+a+scoutmaster%2c+I+saw+the+benefit+of+it+and+encouraged+that+it+be+continued%2c+and+I+see+that+it+has+for+2011%2e++%0d%0a%0d%0aThey+have+a+dining+hall+for+food%2c+and+it+worked+out+very+good%2e+Each+troop+were+required+to+provide+two+boys%2ftable+for+each+meal+that+were+assigned+to+prep+the+tables%2c+serve+the+food+to+the+tables%2c+and+then+clean+up+the+tables%2e+The+food+was+great+and+many+times+there+was+leftovers%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aThe+staff+was+very+responsive+and+and+worked+well+with+the+youth+and+the+leaders%2e+They+were+open+to+comments+and+suggestions+and+were+quite+accommodating%2e+%0d%0a%0d%0aThe+greatest+act+of+scouting+that+I+have+ever+seen+happened+at+this+camp%2e+One+of+my+boys+had+a+camp+goal+was+to+ride+on+the+zip+lines%2e+But+every+time+he+climbed+up+to+ride+it%2c+his+fear+if+heights+took+over%2e++Even+with+the+leaders+encouragements%2c+he+would+eventually+get+down%2e+On+the+last+day+of+zip+lines%2c+he+tried+it+several+times%2c+always+backing+out+of+it%2e+Finally+on+his+last+time+he+asked+them+to+promise+that+they+wouldn%27t+let+him+down+until+he+rode+it%2e+So+with+that+promise+they+worked+with+him+for+the+next+30+minutes%2e+Not+just+the+staff+encouraging+him%2c+but+every+scout+on+that+side+of+the+zip+line%2c+whether+they+were+in+line+to+ride+or+just+to+watch%2e+Finally+when+he+did+go%2c+you+could+hear+the+cheers+echo+off+the+mountains%2e+Never+at+anytime+did+I+hear+any+complaints+or+discouraging+word+from+anyone+waiting+in+line%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aThe+Latrines+and+showers+were+in+good+condition%2c+many+of+them+were+new+that+year%2e+I+didn%27t+feel+like+the+showers+were+hot+enough%2c+but+then+again+I+like+very+hot+showers%2c+but+they+were+still+comfortable%2e+%0d%0a%0d%0aThey+had+a+leader+award+for+the+leaders+to+work+on+that+week%2c+if+they+accomplished+it+they+received+a+patch+and+a+bottle+of+root+beer+the+last+supper+in+camp%2e+I+worked+on+it+and+found+some+of+the+requirements+hard+for+me+to+do%2c+like+take+a+half+an+hour+to+reflect+on+nature%2e+I%27m+one+that+likes+to+keep+going+and+going%2e+It+was+nice+that+they+didn%27t+expect+leaders+to+work+while+we+were+at+camp%2c+we+had+already+did+our+work+getting+them+the+troop+there%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aThey+also+had+a+lot+of+non%2dmerit+badge+activities+for+the+older+scouts%2c+and+this+year+they+are+opening+it+up+for+some+younger+scouts%2e+They+had+2+zip+lines%2c+BMX+biking%2c+horseback+riding%2c+paintball%2fAirsoft+%28at+targets+not+each+other%29%2cClimbing%2fScrambling%2c+etc%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aThis+year+with+it+being+their+reopening+year+and+their+90th+anniversary%2c+each+week+of+camp+was+booked+up%2e+They+didn%27t+overload+the+camp%2c+but+kept+a+running+headcount+for+registration%2e+I+know+this+because+I+had+two+scouts+that+two+weeks+before+camp+had+to+back+out%2c+but+it+open+up+room+for+the+last+two+scouts+from+another+troop+that+were+on+the+waiting+list+to+be+able+to+attend%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aOver+all+I+would+give+the+camp+an+A%2d%2c+they+had+some+reopening+pains+that+year%2e+Our+boys+liked+it+enough+that+they+wanted+to+go+this+year%2e%0d%0a
