A good camp for weekend campouts. The camp is rather small, but still very nice.

Had+a+recent+troop+campout+on+the+facilities+and+they+were+in+great+shape%21++It+sits+in+the+middle+of+Amish+country+and+is+very+close+to+a+major+state+highway+%28ST+RT+422%29%2e++It+is+amazing+what+the+volunteers+do+to+keep+it+running%2e++Had+a+great+time%2e++We+even+went+over+to+Six+Flags+amusement+park%2c+only+about+20+minutes+away%2e%0d%0a

I+grew+up+in+Parkman+and+used+to+go+to+Chickagami%2e+While+I+no+longer+live+in+Parkman+I+will+always+remember+fun+summer+months+swimming+and+hiking+with+friends+at+the+camp%2e++%0d%0a

Camp+Chickagami%2c+I+believe%2c+has+been+sold+by+the+Greater+Western+Reserve+Council+to+the+Geauga+County+Park+District%2e++The+Scouts+retain+some+usage+rights%2e++The+lake+was+drained+and+being+cleaned+and+I+also+believe+there+was+some+remediation+of+the+land+at+the+site+of+the+rifle+range%2e++A+nice+weekend+camp%2e%0d%0a%0d%0a

Camp+Chickagami++Was+sold+In+July+2007%2e+It+was+sold+to+the+metroparks+and+scouts+have+no+right+to+it+any+more%2e+We+No+longer+have+summer+camp+because+Camp+Stigawandish+Is+Closed+and+Standbaugh+Is+too+Small%2e+We+Miss+Chickagami%0d%0a%0d%0a

Chickagami+Park+is+139+acres+located+within+the+headwaters+of+the+Grand+River+watershed%2e+The+parcel+is+primarily+wooded+and+includes+wetlands%2c+streams+and+uplands%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aChickagami+is+a+Native+American+word+meaning+%93camp+by+the+lake%2e%94+In+1941%2c+the+Western+Reserve+Council+of+the+Boy+Scouts+of+America+dedicated+Camp+Chickagami+as+a+year%2dround+camping+facility+for+the+scouts%2e+The+property+consisted+of+cabins+and+camp+lean%2dtos+along+Lake+Estabrook%2c+which+was+created+by+damming+the+branch+of+the+Grand+River+that+ran+through+the+property%2e+Over+the+decades%2c+additional+lodges%2c+a+dining+hall+and+restroom%2fshower+facilities+were+added+to+accommodate+the+scout+groups+who+came+for+week%2dlong+camping+in+the+summer+and+weekend+use+in+the+winter%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aIn+order+to+reduce+operating+costs+in+2003%2c+the+Western+Reserve+Council+%28WRC%29+entered+into+a+purchase+agreement+with+Geauga+Park+District+to+take+over+the+camp+property%2e+After+dam+inspection+and+evaluation+of+Lake+Estabrook+by+the+Ohio+Environmental+Protection+Agency+%28OEPA%29%2c+it+was+recommended+that+the+badly+deteriorated+dam+that+created+Lake+Estabrook+be+removed+and+the+river+corridor+be+returned+to+its+original+flow%2e+The+WRC+agreed+to+remove+the+majority+of+the+buildings+and+the+dam+as+part+of+the+purchase+agreement%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aBoy+Scouts+continue+to+have+priority+access+to+the+property+for+camping%2e+It+is+Geauga+Park+District%27s+intent+to+protect+this+natural+area+in+perpetuity%2e%0d%0a%0d%0a
