Great Facility. When we went the staff was less than adequate. That's been a few years ago and I'm sure they have resolved their staff problem. But our boys do not have any desire to return.

SR2 (local shorthand) has excellent variety and opportunity for every kind of activity. The backpacking trail is well marked and long. Real wilderness isolation is possible. Aquatics covers all the options. Climbing on good rock is available. It can be rugged or real domesticated -- your choice. On the downside, summer camp program areas are spread across too wide an area and the summer heat is grim.

Our+Troop+just+returned+from+SR2+and+they+loved+it%2e+They+are+already+talking+about+when+they+go+back+next+year%2e+Yes+it+is+spread+out+but+it+offers+a+wide+varity+of+experiences%2e+The+added+room+in+the+dining+hall+is+nice+as+well+as+the+AC%2e+The+staff+was+great+and+very+helpful+as+well+as+fun+and+energetic%2e+I+was+pleased+to+see+so+many+young+men+and+women+envolved+in+Scouting%2e+The+high+adventure+programs+looked+exciting+and+fun+as+well+as+educational+especially+the+Chisholm+Trail+Adventure%2e%0d%0aTroop+212+Altus+AFB+OK%0d%0a

Uhhh%2c+no%2c+Leonard+Scout+Ranch++WAS+in+Granbury+but+was+sold+last+year%2e++%22SID%22+is+a+very+special+camp+to+many+and+the+home+of+the+newly+dedicated+%22Chad%27s+Chapel%22+in+honor+of+Scout%2c+Chad+Powell+who+died+in+the+Aggie+Bonfire+tragedy%2e++SID+is+loaded+with+camping%2c+water+sports%2c+climbing+%28tower+and+rock%29%2c+Score%2dO+and+loads+of+other+things%2e++Great+camp%21%21%21%0d%0a

A+great+facility+with+lots+of+everything+Scouting+you+would+want+to+do%2e++The+chow+hall+was+newly+refurbished+and+air+conditioned%2e++However%2c+on+the+down+side+there+were+almost+never+seconds+and+the+service+was+very+slow+and+disorganized%2e++This+camp+has+what+is+possibly+the+most+impressive+campfire+setting+I+have+seen+in+nearly+20+years+in+Scouting%2c+a+must%2dsee%2e++The+new+chapel%2c+erected+in+the+memory+of+one+of+those+lost+at+the+Texas+A%26M+bonfire%2c+is+very+impressive%2e++The+Staff%2c+although+enthusiastic+was+not+as+helpful+or+attentive+to+the+campers+needs+as+other+Texas+camps+I+have+visited%2e++Several+of+the+outlying+activities+%2d+waterfront%2c+horse+barn%2c+C%2eO%2eP%2eE%2e+are+just+too+far+for+some+boys+in+the+heat%2e++We+ended+up+shuttling+boys+%2d+the+camp+does+not+provide+this+service%2e++If+you+like+hot%2c+hot%2c+hot+and+all+the+dirt+you+can+eat+this+is+the+place%2e+I+do+not+think+our+troop+will+return+for+a+while%2e+D%2e+Williams+ASM+T567+Katy+Tx%2e+%0d%0a

Just+returned+from+SR2%2dChisholm+Trail%2e+Found+the+trail+adventure+to+be+ok%2e+Not+what+the+web+site+builds+it+up+to+be%2e+Staff+at+the+Texas+Ranger+outpost+was+rude%2c+with+youth+yelling+at+adult+guests%2e+Addressed+it+with+the+adults+with+no+results%2e+Water+front+ie%2ethe+blob+and+swimming+was+short+on+safty%2e+Buddy+tags+and+buddy+checks+were+a+joke%2e+Life+guards+have+hammocks+at+the+3+stations+and+fell+asleep%21+Boat+drivers+went+too+fast+tubing%2c+and+ran+into+one+of+our+scouts+backing+up+full+throttle%2e+While+pulling+another+scout+they+circled+a+group+of+4+in+kayaks+full+throttle%2e+Our+scouter+made+him+come+in+and+drop+our+group+off%2e+3+of+the+5+latrines+had+fecal+matter+on+the+seats+and+we+could+not+get+bleach+to+clean%2e+Staff+at+the+Sporting+Clays+and+Rock+climbing+were+very+professional+and+kind+to+our+scouts%2e+Over+all+we+felt+like+they+just+tolerated+us+instead+of+welcomeing+us+in+the+brother+hood+of+scouting%2e+Do+not+recommend+this+camp+to+anyone%2e+Troop+Committee+Chair++Jonesboro+GA%0d%0a

My+troop+from+Houston%2c+Tx+just+got+back+from+Sid+Richardson%2e++We+had+a+group+at+the+Base+Camp+at+SR2+and+a+group+at+Chisholm+Trail%2e++The+campsite+at+SR2+was+lousy%2e++When+we+arrived+we+were+given+a+camp+counselor+to+take+us+to+our+site%2e++After+driving+down+a+gully+%28road%29+we+got+to+the+site+where+most+of+the+tents+were+either+down+or+falling+down%2e++It+was+over+100+degrees+and+we+had+to+set+up+the+tents+we+had+paid+to+sleep+in%2e++This+should+not+have+been+much+of+a+problem+except+for+the+heat+and+the+age+of+my+9+scouts+topped+out+at+12+yrs+old%2e+It+was+a+frist+camp+for+6+Scouts%2e+The+staff+wasn%27t+much+help+either+as+they+stood+in+the+shade+while+our+Scouters+and+Scouts+moved+and+set+up+tents%2e++The+tent+ropes+were+rotten+and%2c+if+we+hadn%27t+had+our+own+ropes+we+would+have+been+in+real+trouble%2e+The+tents+had+holes+in+them%2e++Mine+had+eight+holes+in+a+line+right+were+my+cot%2c+that+I+brought%2c+had+to+be+set+up%2e++I+couldn%27t+move+the+cot+to+the+other+side+as+the+wood+base+in+the+botton+of+the+tent+was+at+such+an+angle+that+I+would+have+slept+at+45%25%2e++The+MB+classes+were+average+or+better%2e++The+young+staff+was+very+good%2c+but+there+was+not+enough+of+them%2e++The+advertised+Blob+and+water+sports+were+not+available+to+the+Scouts+as+they+were+only+open+for+2+1%2f2+hous+in+the+morning+and+the+same+in+the+afternoon%2e++This+was+right+in+the+middle+of+the+MB+classes+and+we+considered+the+MB+classes+more+important+than+playing+on+the+Blob%2e++We+got+30+minutes+of+pool+time+on+one+evening+and+no+adult+swim+until+the+camp+staff+finally+gave+in+to+pressure+from+the+Scouters+and+allowed+the+adults+swim+on+Friday+night%2e++This+was+the+night+that+we+had+the+closing+Campfire+and+there+was+really+no+time+to+swim+anyway%2e++The+Friday+night+campfire+was+originally+set+up+to+retire+a+flag%2c+but+under+pressure+from+Scouters%2c+they+gave+in+again+and+allowed+a+skit+night%2e++Originally+there+was+to+be+no+skit+night%2e++As+to+the+evening+programs+for+the+boys%2c+our+boys+made+their+fun%2e++The+evening+program+allowed+for+troop+swim%2c+if+your+troop+was+schedule+for+its+one+night%2c+each+night%2e++There+was+also+black+powder+shooting%2c+if+you+are+over+16+yrs%2e%2c+and+then+there+was+bingo%2e++My+boys+played+tag+outside+the+dining+hall%2e++The+staff+put+together+an+impromptu+dodge+ball+game+on+Tuesday+and+Wednesday+night%2e++This+saved+the+week+for+my+boys+as+they+like+to+play+dodge+ball%2e++My+boys+had+a+name+the+SR2+and+it+was+not+complimentary%2e++We+will+not+return%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aAs+to+Chisholm+Trail+our+older+scouts+had+a+pretty+good+time%2e++I+will+say+that+our+leaders+who+were+there+would+say+ditto+to+the+Scouter+from+Georgia+who+spoke+about+the+lack+of+staffer+courtesy%2e++There+was+outright+safety+violations+on+the+1870%27s+Army+camp%2e++The+leader+indicated+that+it+would+be+a+good+thing+to+replace+the+staffers+in+this+area+as+he+felt+like+they+had+been+doing+the+same+job+for+so+long+that+they+were+not+safe+anymore%2e++The+boys+got+to+go+off+the+Blob+two+times+each+on+one+night%2e++They+much+preferred+to+just+drop+anchor+in+the+lake+and+have+an+eveing+swim%2e++As+to+the+facilities%2c+the+Chisholm+trail+group+indicated+that+the+campsites+around+the+lake+that+they+camped+in+did+not+have+adequate+facilities%2c+and+consequentially%2c+there+were+little+paper+floweres+all+over+the+place+all+around+the+areas+where+they+were+allowed+to+sleep%2e++There+were+mixed+reviews+by+the+Chisholm+Trail+group%2e++Most+would+not+come+back+%0d%0a

I+staffed+the+last+sumer+camp+and+we+had+been+given+exelent+reviews+by+the+scoutmasters%0d%0a

We+went+to+Sid+Richardson+this+summer+and+do+not+plan+to+return%2e+They+had+significant+staffing+problems+and+lost+8+merit+badge+counselors+the+week+we+were+there%2e+They+were+recruiting+our+young+scouts+without+experience%2ftraining+to+voluntarily+teach+the+classes%2e+They+did+not+track+who+attended+which+classes+and+boys+who+only+showed+up+for+one+day+of+a+merit+badge+class+were+recognized+as+having+completed+their+merit+badge+requirements%2e+The+only+adult+training+opportunity+was+in+%22Youth+Protection%22+which+was+manditory+for+each+adult+before+going+to+camp%2e+The+pre%2dcamp+swim+tests+were+not+recognized%2c+even+though+we+had+been+told+in+the+leader%27s+guide+that+they+would+be%2e+We+waited+3+hours+for+our+scouts+to+get+their+swim+tests%2e+The+camp+is+NOT+female+friendly%2e+There+was+only+one+female+restroom+in+the+basic+activity+area+and+the+only+female+shower+was+4+miles+from+the+camp%2dsite%2e+Lunches+were+at+the+troop+site+and+everyday+consisted+of+bread%2c+bologna+or+turkey%2c+chips%2c+bug+juice+and+packaged+cookies%2e+The+%22toilet%22+at+the+camp%2dsite+was+a+hole+in+the+ground+with+a+box+built+around+it%2e+I+can+NOT+recommend+SR2+as+a+scout+summer+camp%2e%0d%0a

I+was+staff+that+year+and+we+always+had+skit+nights+and+the+dodgeball+was+well+planed%2e++As+for+the+heat+well+it+is+texas+in+the+summer+what+do+you+expect%3f%3f%3f+I+was+their+councelor+at+that+camp+too+the+tents+wernt+falling+down+they+just+did+not+like+where+we+put+them%2e++That+troop+did+have+a+bad+name+because+they+broke+a+window+in+the+nature+lodge+and+the+leaders+did+not+control+them%2e++we+had+plenty+of+tents+and+areas+if+there+was+an+equipment+problem%2e++Also+we+worked+hard+to+help+everyone+we+had+very+good+ratings+about+staff+food+and+ect%2e++%0d%0a%0d%0a

We+attended+in+2005+with+two+groups%2e++Younger+boys+for+merit+badges+and+older+boys+for+the+Chisholm+trail%2e++The+merit+badge+counselors+were+young+and+inadequate%2e++We+discovered+that+they+had+released+a+lot+of+the+staff+the+previous+week+and+were+limping+along+with+what+they+had%2e++We+had+to+step+in+and+help+teach+the+requirements%2e+++Very+dissapointing%2e++Latrines+were+filthy+%28dirt%2c+leaves%2c+wasps%2c+critters%29+and+had+not+been+cleaned+in+at+least+two+years%2e++We+made+it+our+project+to+clean+those+near+the+pool+with+clorox+from+top+to+bottom%2e++Cafeteria+food+was+OK+but+not+enough+and+very+disorganized+serving%2e++Blob+was+the+only+true+enjoyment+and+it+was+limited+to+a+few+hours+in+the+morning%2fevening%2e++Buddy+tags+were+not+monitored%2e+Older+boys+on+the+Chisholm+trail+came+back+to+younger+groups+camp+a+few+evenings+because+they+were+%22bored%22%2e++Yes%2c+HOT+HOT+HOT%2e++We+live+in+TEXAS+but+this+place+was+hot+and+dirty%2e++None+want+to+return+again%2e%0d%0a

Maybe%2cthe+scouts+could%27nt+take+it+so+well%2e%2e%2e%2e+because%2c+the+leaders%2c+were+not+as+well+trained+as+their+scouts+were%2e%2e%2e+Any+scouter+worth+their+salt+would+have+pitched+in+to+help+out%2e+Is+not%2c+this+part+of+Scouting+%3f%3f%3f+Teaching+%2c+as+well+as+Leading+%3f%3f%3f+Some+of+us+have+roughed+it%2c+even+with+far+less+provisions%2c+%26+yet+we+managed+to+survive+to+be+at+our+ripe+ages+%26+still+manage+to+continue+to+have+fun%2e%2e%2e+Even+Yet%2e%2e%2e+I+am+personally+over+60+%26+still+go+out+with+the%2e%2e%2eboys+as+some+call+them%2e%2e%2e%2e%2e%2e+I+still+call+them%2e%2e%2e+SCOUTS+%21%0d%0a

HOT%2c+dirty%2c+tent+sites+infested+with+cockroaches%2fants%2fspiders%2e++Safety+issues+at+Blob%2c+not+enough+water%2fhydration+stations%2e++Scouts+only+received+partial+credit+for+several+merit+badges+that+were+supposed+to+be+completed%2e++Do+NOT+recommend%2e++June+2008+attendance%2e%0d%0a

I+led+our+Troop+to+Summer+Camp+at+SR2+in+June+2008%2c+and+we+will+not+return%2e++Check%2din+and+campsite+set%2dup+were+incredibly+unorganized%2e++It+as+as+if+they+did+not+know+we+were+coming%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aOur+first+assigned+campsite+did+not+have+enough+tents%2c+so+we+were+reassigned+to+another+campsite+on+the+opposite+side+of+camp%2e++Zero+tents%2e++Then+we+were+moved+back+to+the+first+campsite+%2d+still+not+enough+tents%2e++I+asked+several+staffers+to+secure+us+tents%2c+only+to+be+told+to+talk+with+someone+else%2e++I+finally+had+to+interrupt+the+staff+meeting+to+get+someone+to+address+our+issue%2e++Finally%2c+after+11+p%2em%2e%2c+we+had+tents+%2d+most+of+them+with+rips%2c+tears+and+holes%2e++The+few+cots+that+were+available+were+broken%2c+and+the+latrines+were+beyond+nasty%2c+even+by+Scout+standards%2e++Roaches+were+everywhere+in+the+campsite%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aThe+food+was+the+worst+I%27d+ever+experienced+at+any+BSA+long%2dterm+camp%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aMuch+of+the+merit+badge+instruction+was+spectacularly+incompetent%2c+done+by+16%2dyear%2dolds+with+no+aptitude+or+interest+in+the+topic+or+the+Scouts+they+were+supposed+to+be+counseling%2e++Inexplicably%2c+Leatherwork+and+Basketry+were+not+completed+%2d+and+not+because+the+Scouts+didn%27t+work%2e++There+were+supposed+to+be+plenty+of+supplies+at+the+trading+post%2c+but+they+ran+out+the+first+day%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aConversely%2c+some+of+our+Scouts+received+full+credit+for+merit+badges+that+were+impossible+to+complete+in+a+week+and+that+I+know+for+a+fact+no+pre%2dwork+was+done+for%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aCheck%2dout+was+almost+as+bad+as+check%2din%2e++Our+troop+never+received+the+breakfast+we+were+supposed+to%2c+despite+asking+the+camp+director+and+other+staffers+several+times%2e++They+ran+out+of+patches%2c+so+we+left+without+them+and+stopped+to+get+our+boys+some+donuts+for+breakfast+in+the+nearest+town%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aIt+was+extremely+hot%2c+but+finding+a+hydration+station+that+actually+had+water+was+the+exception+and+not+the+rule%2e%0d%0a

We+been+to+summer+camp+at+SR2+and+never+ran+into+these+problems%2e+May+be+its+the+way+one+see+only+black+and+white+and+not+the+gray+is+why+all+of+ya+had+bad+time%2e%0d%0a

We+went+for+Cub+Family+Adventure+and+our+scouts+and+parents+enjoyed+it+%28oct+2010%29%2e++Let+me+start+out+by+saying+the+camp+is+a+long+way+in+on+a+very+rough+road%2e++They+did+have+signs+to+point+the+way%2c+though%2e++Got+a+little+confusing+when+it+came+time+to+find+our+camp+%28Camp+9%29+but+we+got+there+and+found+our+camp+site%2e++We+had+a+latrine+with+a+hand+washing+station+in+our+site+%28it+worked+and+was+clean%29+as+well+as+a+flushable+toliet%2c+sinks+and+summer+showers+across+the+road%2e++Our+camp+site+was+large+enough+to+hold+all+of+us+and+our+cars+with+no+problem%2e++The+activities+that+were+provided+at+the+camp+were+very+limited+but+as+cub+scout+leaders+we+made+up+for+that%2e++Our+Cub+Master+volunteered+to+serve+for+the+BB+range+and+so+BB+was+opened+up+for+the+scouts+to+enjoy%2e++The+trek+to+the+rock+climbing+wall+was+long+and+hot+just+to+find+it+was+not+open+but+we+adapted%2e+We+would+not+recommend+this+camp+during+the+summer+as+all+the+areas+are+very+spread+out+but+for+fall+and+early+Spring+we+would+go+again%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aFood+was+camp+food%2e++Our+scouts+and+parents+had+no+problems+getting+seconds+%28We+were+in+the+last+rotation+for+meals+so+maybe+that+was+why%29%2e++If+you+don%27t+like+camp+food%2c+bring+your+own+and+cook+it+as+an+activity%2e++%0d%0a

Sid+Richardson+Scout+Ranch+is+located+in+north+central+Texas%2c+west+of+Ft+Worth+on+Lake+Bridgeport%2e++The+camp+is+very+large+with+2500+acres+available%2e++During+week+2+there+were+about+500+Scouts+and+125+leaders+in+camp%2e++Camp+staff+population+is+not+known%2e++Campsites+are+spread+out+fairly+well+and+we+had+our+own+site%2e++Dining+is+in+an+air%2dconditioned+dining+hall+in+two+different+shifts+for+each+meal%2e++The+camp+is+not+ADA+accessible+and+does+not+provide+any+substantive+accommodation+for+religious+or+medical+restrictions+for+meals%2e++Camp+costs+were+%24235+for+youth%2c+%24105+for+adults%2c+and+%24330+for+anyone+on+the+Brazos+River+Canoe+Trek%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aPre+Camp+Information+and+Ease+of+Arranging+the+Trip+%96+Grade+F+%28is+there+something+lower%3f%29%0d%0aThe+pre%2dcamp+information+was+very+late+in+coming+and+only+arrived+about+6%2dweeks+prior+to+camp%2e++The+Leader%92s+Guide+is+confusing+and+needs+to+be+rewritten+especially+for+Troops+for+whom+this+is+a+first+visit%2e++Much+of+the+expected+material+for+the+camp+is+not+documented+and+what+is+in+the+guide+is+often+incorrect%2e++A+2%2e5+hour+SM+meeting+on+Sunday+night+was+used+to+mostly+correct+errors+in+the+Leader%92s+Guide+or+materials+that+had+been+handed+out+when+we+arrived%2e++About+the+only+thing+in+the+guide+that+was+correct+was+the+mailing+address+for+the+camp%2e++Even+the+published+maps+of+the+camp+had+significant+errors%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aLonghorn+Council+holds+an+orientation+meeting+for+Scoutmasters+the+Wednesday+before+each+week%92s+camp%2e++Of+course+that+assumes+you+are+in+Council+and+close+enough+to+attend%2e+%0d%0a%0d%0aWe+attempted+to+contact+the+Council+Camping+Registrar+on+numerous+occasions+via+e%2dmail+and+telephone+to+ensure+our+bill+was+settled+and+all+necessary+documents+had+been+provided%2e++We+never+received+a+call+back+or+return+e%2dmail+from+that+office%2e++Checks+for+payment+went+uncashed+until+the+mid%2dweek+of+camp+and+receipts+for+those+checks+that+were+sent+were+never+received%2e++This+meant+that+the+camp+was+trying+to+collect+about+%244K+from+us+as+%93unpaid%94%2e++Fortunately+I+had+copies+of+the+checks+we+had+sent+along+with+associated+paperwork%2e++We+ultimately+did+have+to+provide+a+cancelled+check+to+prove+we+were+paid%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aMerit+Badge+%26+Activity+Registration+System+%96+Grade+C%0d%0aThis+was+a+new+system+that+we+were+told+was+a+home+brew+by+Longhorn+Council%2e++It+was+not+totally+intuitive+and+had+no+help+guides%2e++After+entering+our+roster+once%2c+we+found+we%92d+entered+it+in+the+wrong+place+and+had+to+re%2denter+it%2e++Once+that+problem+was+ironed+out%2c+the+rest+of+the+registration+went+fairly+well%2e++The+commercially+available+systems+that+other+camps+use+are+far+better+but+then+again+they+have+some+usage+behind+them%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aCheck+in%2fout+Process+%2d+Arrival+%26+Departure+%96+Grade+C%0d%0aWe+are+used+to+preparing+a+packet+of+information+to+hand+in+and+check%2din+and+then+walking+away%2e++Unfortunately%2c+the+Leader%92s+Manual+instructions+were+not+always+correct%2e++We+were+lucky+in+that+we+had+brought+other+supporting+documents+and+were+able+to+complete+check%2din+without+much+trouble%2e++Check%2dout+was+also+a+problem+in+that+we+were+missing+an+entire+envelope+of+Merit+Badge+records+%28about+12+Merit+badges%29+at+checkout%2e++We%92ve+e%2dmailed+the+camp+requesting+the+material+and+are+waiting+for+it+to+be+sent%2e++The+camp+does+not+provide+any+patch+for+attendance+nor+any+recognition+for+Leaders+that+are+there+with+boys%2e++This+is+the+first+camp+I%92ve+been+to+that+did+not+offer+to+write+a+letter+to+an+employer+thanking+them+for+letting+the+Leader+come+to+camp%2e+%0d%0a%0d%0aCamp+Administration+%96+Grade+D%0d%0aThis+camp+was+run+by+a+Camp+Director%2e++Rather+than+delegating+responsibilities+he+was+involved+in+every+single+facet+of+camp+operations+down+to+having+to+be+the+one+to+place+food+orders+for+the+kitchen%2e++I%92ve+never+seen+a+dining+hall+that+had+to+have+the+Camp+Director+present+to+make+orders%2e++In+spite+of+being+warned+on+two+different+occasions+that+an+emergency+drill+was+planned%2c+no+emergency+drill+was+ever+conducted%85+thought+that+was+a+requirement+for+certification%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aCamp+Commissioner+Program+%96+No+Grade+as+there+was+no+program%0d%0aThe+single+person+who+was+identified+as+a+Camp+Commission+spent+the+entire+week+teaching+Merit+Badges%2e++We+never+saw+a+single+camp+staff+person+some+into+our+campsite+and+check+in+with+us+the+entire+week%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aCamp+Staff+%96+Grade+C%0d%0aThis+was+a+pretty+average+staff%2e++There+were+some+high+points+and+there+were+some+low+points%2e++You+could+tell+in+talking+with+the+Program+Director+that+the+camp+was+understaffed+for+the+number+of+campers+present%2e++He+said+they+had+no+input+on+the+numbers+and+that+the+occupancy+was+determined+at+Longhorn+Council%2e++Some+staff+did+stand+out%85+Climbing%2c+Swimming+Pool+Aquatics%2c+and+Metalwork%0d%0a%0d%0aCampsite+%96+Grade+C%0d%0aWe+were+placed+in+the+Wood+Badge+Staff+campsite+that+was+quite+some+distance+from+the+central+parts+of+camp%2e++We%92d+asked+to+be+in+a+more+centrally+located+campsite+as+we+had+a+leader+that+used+a+motorized+scooter+for+mobility+due+to+a+spinal+cord+injury%2e++In+an+earlier+discussion+with+the+Camp+Director+a+central+one+was+assigned%2e++Due+to+a+last+minute+add+of+a+large+Troop+we+were+bumped+without+being+notified%2e++Overall+the+campsite+itself+was+not+too+bad%2e++It+was+more+spread+out+than+we+would+have+liked+and+had+no+central+gathering+place+for+the+Troop+%28the+Wood+badge+field+was+being+used+for+the+FCE+program%29%2e++Additionally+there+was+construction+in+the+area+and+we+had+to+cordon+off+areas+to+keep+the+guys+out+of+the+construction+debris%2e%0d%0a+%0d%0aFire+Ants%2c+Chiggers%2c+Ticks+%26+Mosquitoes%2c+and+other+Critters+%96+Grade+B%0d%0aWell%2c+this+is+Texas+and+these+are+expected%2e++We+saw+no+fire+ants+or+ticks+and+had+few+chiggers%2e++Mosquito+repellant+worked+well+if+applied+frequently%2e++Scorpions+are+at+the+camp+and+you+have+to+use+caution+to+shake+out+boots+and+watch+where+you+step+when+barefoot+in+the+showers%2e++Closed+toed%2c+heeled+shoes+are+required%2e%0d%0a+%0d%0aTents%2c+Platforms+and+Cots+%96+Grade+D%0d%0aOne+of+the+things+that+caused+us+to+choose+SR2+for+summer+camp+were+the+pictures+of+new%2c+larger+BSA+wall+tents+with+%93windows%94+that+they+showed+in+their+advertisements%2e++That+along+with+the+mention+that+there+were+many+new+platforms+was+a+major+selling+point%2e++What+we+got+was+very+old%2c+in+some+cases+dry%2drotted+tents+that+had+numerous+small+tears+and+holes+in+them%2e++We+were+lucky+that+we+never+had+any+rain+%28thought+we+did+have+a+couple+of+rolls+of+duct+tape+just+in+case%29%2e++Most+of+the+platforms+%28ours+were+the+forklift+pallet+type+with+two+halves+making+up+one+platform+that+could+be+moved+and+stored%29+in+our+campsite+were+in+serious+need+of+repair+with+some+having+holes+that+you+could+get+your+foot+caught+in%2e++A+few+platforms+were+being+rebuilt+as+permanent+additions+to+the+Wood+Badge+staff+site+and+were+oversized+with+concrete+supports+and+what+I+call+front+porches%2c+or+areas+where+the+tent+does+not+cover%2e++We+never+found+any+of+the+new+tents+that+had+been+advertised+and+we+had+one+leader+that+hiked+all+over+camp+for+exercise+and+kept+an+eye+out%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aLatrine+%26+Shower+Facilities+%2d+Grade+C%0d%0aPretty+typical+summer+camp+showers+and+latrines%2e++We+did+have+a+new+two%2dholer+with+hand+washing+sink+in+our+campsite%2e++Group+shower%2c+flush+toilet%2c+and+hand+washing+facilities+were+being+rebuilt+but+were+usable%2e++The+showers+had+only+single+temperature+water+as+all+the+water+for+the+group+facility+was+heated+to+about+100+degrees+and+each+faucet+only+had+a+single+pipe+running+to+it%2e++Other+group+showers+at+other+locations+in+camp+had+ground+temp+water%2e++We%92d+have+preferred+to+have+some+cooler+water+for+showers+with+daytime+temps+hovering+near+100+degrees+also%2e++The+group+shower+was+built+so+that+any+rain+causes+mud+to+flow+into+the+concrete+floors%2e++We+were+lucky+as+it+did+not+rain+but+you+could+see+where+the+flows+would+have+come%2e++The+swimming+pool+showers%2c+if+you+went+early%2c+were+the+best+in+camp%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aMerit+Badge+Program+%96+Grade+C%0d%0aWe+were+amazed+at+the+thought+that+a+camp+would+offer+about+75+Merit+Badges%2e++However%2c+once+you+looked+at+it+they+had+combined+similar+ones+like+Electricity+and+Electronics+into+a+single+period+completed+during+four+1%2dhour+classes%2e++Hard+to+believe+they+really+got+it+done%2e++At+the+first+SM+meeting%2c+they+told+us+that+they+had+a+number+of+Merit+Badge+classes+that+were+scheduled+but+they+had+no+counselor+for+and+they+requested+any+adults+in+camp+that+could+counsel+those+classes+to+help+out%2e++The+swimming+pool+aquatics+and+climbing+areas+were+two+where+there+was+no+doubt+the+Scouts+did+the+work%2e++We+heard+grumblings+about+Canoeing+though+saw+no+problems+ourselves%2e++Handicrafts+tried+to+pack+way+too+many+Scouts+into+a+small+area+where+knives+were+being+used%2e++14+injuries+in+one+period+of+Woodcarving+finally+gave+someone+a+clue%2e++Unfortunately%2c+we%92ve+come+to+expect+this+level+of+mediocrity+and+thus+it+is+rated+as+%93average%94%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aFirst+Year+Camper+Program+%96Grade+D%0d%0aThere+were+three+counselors+for+37+scouts%2c+but+the+counselors+chose+to+teach+the+whole+group+at+one+time%2e++So+it+was+really+one+to+37+ratio%2e++It+would+have+worked+better+to+have+one+counselor+take+a+group+of+10+scouts+either+for+the+whole+week+or+rotate+in+groups+of+10%2e++That+is+one+group+work+on+flags%2c+while+another+on+lashings%2c+and+another+on+ax+yard%2e++Then+rotate%2e++In+addition%2c+since+we+were+in+the+campsite+next+to+the+Bronco+patrol+area%2c+it+was+clear+that+the+morning+session+%28when+temperature+was+not+as+high%29+was+more+active+and+the+counselors+were+more+engaged%2e+By+afternoon+in+100%2b+temperatures%2c+the+counselors+were+less+enthusiastic+and+the+scouts+were+hot%2e++After+two+periods+we+pulled+our+first+year+Scouts+out+of+their+Bronco+program%2e++There+were+too+many+Scouts+and+not+enough+staff+to+handle+the+work+correctly%2e++What%92s+curious+is+that+even+having+done+this+our+Scouts+were+shown+as+having+completed+all+the+Wednesday+%96+Friday+class+activities%2e++%0d%0a%0d%0aSpecial+Activities+%96+Grade+C%0d%0aTwo+campfires%2c+Troop+Swim%2c+Blob%2c+and+Troop+Climbs+were+available%2e++We+did+a+Troop+climb+that+we+found+out+about+by+accident+%2d%2d+so+we+got+lucky+in+the+sense+no+one+else+knew+about+it+and+we+found+out+about+it%2e++The+boys+enjoyed+this%2e++It+is+not+clear+that+it+was+actually+a+planned+activity+for+the+camp%2e++If+it+had+been+advertised%2c+it+would+have+been+overcrowded%2e++Our+group+of+15+scouts+was+all+that+could+really+be+accommodated%2e++Troop+swim+and+open+time+at+the+rifle+and+archery+ranges+were+limited+or+non%2dexistent+due+to+evening+classes+limiting+the+access%2e++++++%0d%0a%0d%0aSpecial+Programs+for+Older+Scouts+%96+Grade+F%0d%0aWe+had+an+11+person+crew+go+on+the+Brazos+River+Canoe+Trek%2e++It+truly+deserves+its+own+long+write%2dup%2e++Camp+leadership+issues%2c+poor+quality+food+planning%2c+and+bad+scheduling+just+to+name+a+few+items+led+our+crew+to+jump+ahead+back+to+the+base+camp+on+Thursday+afternoon+and+leave+summer+camp+that+evening%2e++%0d%0a%0d%0aDining+Hall+%26+Food+%96+Dining+Hall+Grade+C%2c+Food+Grade+F%0d%0aThe+dining+hall+was+the+largest+air+conditioned+structure+on+camp+and+was+a+respite+for+many+during+the+day%2e++It+was+used+for+several+of+the+classroom+Merit+Badges%2e++It+is+very+typical+of+a+give+or+take+20+year+old+dining+hall%2e++The+food+was+another+story%2e++%0d%0a%0d%0aWe+got+an+advance+copy+of+the+menu+to+evaluate+it+for+religious+and+medical+restrictions+and+the+menu+looked+really+pretty+good%2e++Had+they+served+that+menu%2c+they+would+have+rated+a+B%2e++The+camp+was+served+in+two%2dseatings%2e++We+were+in+the+first+or+Group+A%2e++Only+a+couple+of+times+was+the+published+menu+actually+served+at+a+meal%2e++If+you+were+at+the+end+of+the+line+in+Group+A+they+had+frequently+run+out+of+one+or+another+food+item%2e++Their+response+%93there+is+always+peanut+butter+and+jelly+for+you%94%2e++On+more+than+one+occasion+food+that+was+not+ready+to+be+served+to+Group+A+was+served+to+Group+B+thus+giving+them+essentially+a+double+meal%2e++Group+A+never+got+seconds+and+a+serving+of+scrambled+eggs+was+about+one+egg%2c++Fritos+was+about+10+chips%2c+and+of+tater+tots+was+about+5%2d6+items%2e++Only+two+desserts+were+served+even+though+one+was+listed+at+each+lunch+and+dinner%2e++The+Gatorade+was+about+20%25+strength+as+the+Camp+Director+believed+the+myth+about+not+wanting+to+use+full+strength+Gatorade+in+hot+weather%2e++Most+just+gave+up+on+the+Gatorade+as+it+tasted+terrible+and+drank+water%2e++In+general+the+food+was+very+poorly+cooked+and+in+several+cases+was+served+either+burned+or+still+cold%2ffrozen+internally%2e+Hamburgers+were+too+cold+to+melt+the+cheese%2e++There+was+no+consideration+made+as+to+caloric+requirements+for+Scouts+at+this+camp%2e++The+camp+had+inadequate+numbers+of+staff+to+act+as+servers+and+so+requested+Troops+to+volunteer+to+serve+at+meals%2e++%0d%0a%0d%0aWhen+we+asked+about+religious+accommodations+we+were+told+we+can+bring+anything+we+needed+and+use+the+refrigerator+or+freezer%2e++There+was+no+attempt+made+at+real+accommodation+by+the+camp%2e++They+did+have+one+microwave+labeled+for+non%2dpeanut+use+only%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aWe+purchased+Gatorade+in+town+and+kept+it+iced+for+our+Scouts+in+camp%2e++On+Wednesday+night+we+skipped+dinner+and+brought+pizza+in+from+town+so+we+knew+they+Scouts+had+one+good+meal%2e++We+also+purchased+ice+cream+for+Thursday+night+dessert%2e%0d%0a+%0d%0aOverall+Infrastructure+%96+Grade+B%0d%0aSR2+has+the+potential+to+be+a+REALLY+good+camp+but+the+management+is+terrible%2e++They+lake+is+down+28+feet+so+some+adaptations+were+required+for+that%2e++It+is+a+large%2c+spread+out+camp+and+we+had+Scouts+easily+hiking+5%2dmiles+every+day+to+and+from+classes+in+the+heat%2e++One+interesting+thing+that+happened+was+that+the+swimming+pool+filter+literally+blew+out+in+mid%2dweek%2e++For+two+days%2c+until+a+new+filter+was+put+in+place+they+had+to+chlorinate+the+water+heavily%2e++This+caused+it+to+be+very+cloudy%2e++%0d%0a%0d%0aOverall+though+if+there+were+some+new+tents+and+platforms+and+fixed+up+showers%2c+revamped+the+administrative+structure%2c+reduced+the+attendee+load+to+about+60%25+of+where+it+is+today%2c+fixed+the+food+service+and+decreased+the+Merit+Badge+offering+to+something+manageable+the+camp+could+be+great%2e++Notice+the+only+%93things%94+needed+are+improved+tents%2c+platforms%2c+and+showers%2e++All+else+appears+to+be+Council+and%2for+management+related%2e+%0d%0a%0d%0aAdult+Training+%96+Grade+C%0d%0aWFA+%28%2470+fee%29%2c+CPR%2c+and+SMF+were+offered%2e++No+IOLS%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aChapel+Program+%96+Grade+D%0d%0aOne+10%2dminute+%93vespers%94+conducted+by+a+protestant+minister%85+no+recognition+that+other+faiths+were+present%85+no+Scout%92s+own%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aOrder+of+the+Arrow+Activities+%96+Grade+B%0d%0aIce+cream+social+for+members+with+a+callout+at+the+campfire%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aTrading+Post+%96+Grade+C%0d%0aPretty+typical+summer+camp+trading+post%2e++The+prices+were+reasonable+for+a+camp+and+they+seemed+to+have+good+stock+of+snacks%2e++Not+a+lot+of+T%2dshirt+selection+but+that+was+OK+and+just+a+bare+minimum+of+other+stock%2e++In+some+ways+this+was+better+as+the+Scouts+did+not+have+typical+trading+post+%93junk%94+to+buy%2e++Each+Troop+received+an+8%23+bag+of+ice+each+day+for+10+people+and+additional+ice+was+available+for+%241+a+bag%2e++In+the+98%2d106+degree+heat+we+needed+more+than+twice+the+allocation%2e++On+Thursday+the+storage+freezer+failed+and+about+half+the+ice+melted+before+repairs+could+be+made+so+ice+was+rationed%2e++Thursday+and+Friday+were+the+hottest+days+at+camp%2e+++%0d%0a%0d%0aOverall+Grade%3a+D%0d%0aSurprised+they+passed+their+health+department+inspection+that+Tuesday+and+the+National+Camp+inspection+on+Wednesday%2e++%0d%0aWe+chose+SR2+based+on+their+advertisements+and+we+learned+the+hard+way+not+to+believe+what+you+read%2e++This+camp+has+the+dubious+distinction+of+having+been+the+absolute+worst+camp+we%92ve+ever+attended+and+I+suspect+we+will+never+return%2e++We+also+are+planning+to+brief+our+Boy+Scout+Roundtable+to+hopefully+prevent+other+local+Troops+from+experiencing+this+camp%2e+%0d%0a

Our+troop+has+attended+summer+camp+several+times+in+the+past%2e+Last+year+%282013%29+our+troop+went+to+Sid+Richardson+and+had+a+great+time%2e+The+scouts+had+such+good+experience+the+PLC+voted+to+return+this+year+%282014%29%2e+One+of+the+major+point+the+scouts+liked+was+all+the+improvements+the+Longhorn+Council+had+made+to+the+camp%2e+New+tents%2c+updated+bathrooms+and+showers+were+a+major+factor%2e+We+are+a+large+troop+and+the+camp+offered+many+programs+not+found+at+other+camps%2e+The+Viking+ship+was+a+big+hit%2e+Having+lake+Bridgeport+on+the+property+allowed+us+use+sail+boats%2c+canoes%2c+motor+boats+and+many+other+water+crafts%2e+%0d%0aFrom+the+youth%3a+Come+join+our+troop+and+have+fun+at+the+newly+updated+camp+that+offers+outstanding+programs%2e+We+are+attending+the+second+week+they+are+open%2e+%0d%0a

Summer+2016+camp+was+not+good%2e+no+ac+anywhere%2e+wait+in+the+camp+directors+office+there+was%2e+campsites+crowded+and+over+packed%2c+the+folks+teaching+was+doing+the+best+with+the+bad+supervision%28because+nothing+they+could+do+or+someone+else%27s+fault%29%2e+seems+lots+of+things+done+here+not+by+the+scout+book+or+RULES+good+luck+if+you+go+there+and+make+sure+you+have+your+own+water+they+don%27t+refill+the+coolers+but+1+time+a+day%2e+watch+the+way+the+staff+gives+the+boys+the+meds+for+them+to+open+and+take+how+many+they+want+and+then+are+released+to+go+eat+with+meds+in+hand%2e+remind+them+to+take+pills%2e+again+good+luck%2e%2e%2e%2e%2e%2e%0d%0a
