It is a very well run camp. It offers a wide range of merit badges. The only complaint I had was with the enviormental merit badge counselor. As a scoutmaster, I was offended to hear someone say they do not believe a scout should earn this badge the first time, and he would not approve someone until they had taken this badge at least three times. Myself and the CC reported this to the camp director with no results. We then wrote a letter to the Council Chairman with no results. We never went back. One the plus side a MB isn't awarded unless it is earned. The camp is clean and the food was great. The camp had well run programs.

As the ecology and conservation director for camp crooked creek for the last 6 years, I can say for certian we do not tell kids they must take the environmental science merit badge three times to pass it. We state that it is a very challenging merit badge and they will not finish it in a week. We tell them they may get a partial, but that means they only must complete some requirements, not that they must take the whole class again. They are provided with a packet for them to fill out. Almost all of the requirements are in that packet. What they do not finish, they have all of the materials to take home so they can finish later. We provide all of the support possible to the scout and scouters, if they ask for it. I, however, can't do anything unless problems or concerns are brought to me.

Great+Camps+%3d+Camp+Boxwell%2c+TN+%2d+Camp+Powhatan%2c+VA+%2d+Camp+Maumee%2c+IN+%2d+and+our+all+time+favorite+Camp+Ransburg%2c+IN%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aOnce+you+have+attended+Ransburg+and+experienced+the+absolute+great+program+they+put+on+for+the+boys%2c+no+others+come+close%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aI+am+a+scouter+that+has+attended+summercamps+the+last+8+years+in+a+row%2e++Crooked+Creek+IS+my+home+council+camp%2e++Shame+it+is+not+better%2e++We+pay+MORE+and+drive+FARTHER+to+get+the+better+experience+for+our+troop%2e%0d%0a

Our+troop+has+camped+at+Crooked+Creek+for+the+past+three+seasons%2e+Overall+our+experience+there+has+been+very+good%2e+Staff+have+been+very+helpful+overall%2e+The+nature%2fecology+area+especially+has+been+very+experienced+and+has+offered+a+very+high+quality+program%2e+The+Dan+Boone+program+for+first+year+Scouts+has+varied+more+in+quality+but+has+met+our+needs+well%2e+There+are+several+good+opportunities+for+the+older+Scouts+in+terms+of+the+COPE+course%2c+a+CIT+program+and+more+advanced+merit+badges+such+as+water+skiing%2e+Each+evening+brings+a+variety+of+fun+activities+and+special+events%2e+We+have+seen+upgrades+to+the+facilities+every+year%2e+Air+conditioning+in+the+dining+hall%2c+new+shower+facilities%2c+the+addition+of+staff+cabins+and+the+construction+of+a+Scoutmaster%27s+lodge%2e++We+are+doing+a+travel+trip+this+summer+but+I+would+not+hesitate+to+recommend+the+camp%2e+It+helps+to+reserve+earlier+to+get+more+of+the+more+desirable+centrally+located+campsites%2e%0d%0a

We+attended+Crooked+Creek+in+late+June+2010+for+our+fourth+year%2e+The+boys+give+it+fairly+high+marks%2e+This+year+the+environmental+programs+were+not+as+strong+due+to+staff+turn%2dover%2e+Shooting+sports+were+excellent%2e+The+Dan+Boone+program+for+the+younger+boys+is+mixed+in+quality+and+was+the+lowest+rated+of+all+areas%2e+The+boys+complained+that+it+was+too+much+like+a+classroom%2e+Food+quality+has+improved+overall+but+we+attended+during+the+largest+enrollment+week+of+camp%2e+Meal+lines+took+20+to+25+minutes+and+we+were+packed+shoulder+to+shoulder%2e++The+waterfront+program+is+average%2e+Most+of+our+boys+opted+to+bypass+the+aquatics+badges+this+year%2e+The+popular+classes+such+as+sailing+and+waterskiing+filled+up+quickly%2e+Be+sure+to+sign+up+on%2dline+very+early%2e+The+camp+seemed+less+organized+this+tear%2e+We+still+have+not+received+our+summer+camp+T%2dshirts+three+weeks+after+camp%2e+I+would+give+the+camp+an+A+for+safety+consciousness+and+input+seems+to+be+welcomed%2e+The+troop+has+decided+that+next+year+will+be+time+for+a+change%2e+The+camp+did+announce+that+there+will+be+some+improvements+for+next+year+including+a+new+road+and+the+Scoutmaster+lodge+will+finally+open%2e%0d%0a
