%0d%0aTroop+254+out+of+Sterling+Heights+MI%2c+just+returned+from+summer+camp+on+Saturday+2+August%2e++We+had+42+scouts+and+from+8%2d15+adults+depending+on+the+day+of+the+week+attend+Clinton+Valley+Council%27s+Lost+Lake+Scout+Reservation+%28LLSR%29%2e++LLSR+is+located+about+3%2e5+hours+North+of+Detroit+in+the+central+part+of+the+state+near+Clare%2e%0d%0a+%0d%0aLLSR+is+on+2300+acres+and+was+the+private+hunting+preserve+of+Harry+Bennet%2c+who+was+Henry+Ford%27s+top+henchman+in+the+1920%27s+%26+30%27s%2e++It+has+a+fascinating+history+including+a+main+lodge+made+of+cement+that+looks+like+logs%2c+gun+ports%2c+moats%2c+secret+pasageways+etc%2e++Tours+are+given+nearly%0d%0aevery+evening%2e%0d%0a+%0d%0aT%2d254+had+12+new+scouts+attend+the+Pathfinder+program+which+included+advancement+classes+for+Tenderfoot+through+1st+class%2e+Another+dozen+or+so+scouts+attended+the+Baden%2dPowell+program+which+was+geared+around+finishing+off+2nd+and+first+class+requirements%2e++B%2dP+attendees+went+to+merit%0d%0abadge+classes+and+then+fit+in+advancment+requirements+where+necessary%2e+Nearly+all+scouts+who+went+to+camp+as+Tenderfoots%2c+will+advance+to+2nd+class+as+a+result+of+summer+camp%2e+Many+have+completed+1st+class+requirments+as+well%2e+Most+of+the+Pathfinders+finished+at+least+Tenderfoot+requirments+with+some+very+close+to+second+class%2e%0d%0a+%0d%0aLost+Lake+has+a+lake+%28duh%21%29+and+a+good+aquatics+program%2e++In+fact+the+Pathfinders+who+passed+the+swimmer+test+at+the+begining+of+the+week+went+on+to+get+a+swimming+merit+badge%2c+in+all+cases+it+was+there+first%21+They+were+very+excited%2e++In+addition+to+the+boating%2c+sailing%2c+snorkling%2c+canoeing%2c+mile+swim%2c+etc%2c+LLSR+also+has+a+water+carnival+on+the+last+afternoon+of+the+week%2e+++Other+scouts+enjoyed+the+many+merit+badges+classes+offered+including+shooting+%28%2e22+%26+shotgun%29+archery%2c+and+a+host+of+others%2e%0d%0a+%0d%0aLLSR+offers+a+number+of+other+programs+including+a+high%2flow+C%2eO%2eP%2eE+course%2c+a+new+climbing%2frepelling+tower%2c+river+canoe+trips%2c+and+other+high+adventure+programs+such+a+Wowatum%2e++Wowatum+is+a++5+day+backcountry+trek+which+includes+stops+at+theme+camps%2e++Camps+include+a+mountain+man+camp+%28muzzle+loading%2c+and+tomahawk+throwing%29%2c++lumberjack+camp+%28pole+climbing%29%2c+49er+camp+%28panning+for+gold+etc%2e%29+and+others%2e+The+camps+are+only+a+couple+miles+apart+so+one+spends+more+time+doing+and+less+time+walking%2e%0d%0a+%0d%0aIn+addition%2c+our+Pathfinders+spent+the+night+in+the+4+resident+Tipis%2c+and+about+20+of+us+spent+another+night+in+the++8+tree+houses+which+are+in+the+high+adventure+camp%2e%0d%0a+%0d%0aWe+had+a+great+time%2c+and+yes%2c++42+scouts+were+a+handfull%2e+We+have+about+51+scouts+in+our+troop+overall%2e++About+half+our+troop+is+first+and+second+year+scouts+and+this+was+their+%28and+my%29+first+summer+camp+%28We+went+on+a+road+trip+last+summer%29%2e++The+food+was+great%2c+the+staff+helpful+and+friendly+%28though+in+short+supply+because+of+the+Jamoboree%29%2e++Overall+I+would+rate+it+an+A%2c+of+course+I+got+a+chance+to+do+both+the+COPE+course+%28oh%2c+my+bruised+and+battered+body%29+and+the+climbing+and+repelling+tower+%28man%2c+what+a+rush%21%29%2e%0d%0a+%0d%0aPS%2e+We+met+a+troop+from+Pennsylvania+%2832+scouts%29+who+said+it+was+the+biggest+camp+they%27d+ever+been+to%2c+and+had+the+greatest+variety+of+programs%2e+They+said+they+go+out+of+council+every+other+year%2e%0d%0a+%0d%0a+%0d%0aYIS%2c%0d%0a+%0d%0aGary+McBain%2c+ASM%0d%0aT%2d254+Sterling+Hts%2e+MI%0d%0a%22it%27s+not+the+years%2c+it%27s+the+mileage%22%0d%0a+%0d%0aLost+Lake+Scout+reservation+web+page+%3a%0d%0awww%2egeocites%2ecom%2fyosemite%2ftrails%2e2768%0d%0aPhone%3a+248%2d338%2d0035+for+information%0d%0a
