Owned by the Central New Jersey Council, KMSR has been providing Scouts with a quality summer camp experience for over 50 years. Our 5 week program offers special emphasis on First Year campers and Senior Scouts, thereby making it a great summer camp for Scouts of all ages. With 5 lodges and 2 lean-to sites as well as tent sites, it is a retreat for year-round Scouting activities as well. Located on the edge of Stokes State Forest and the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, it is within hiking distance of the Appalachian Trail. Along with our other council camp Yards Creek SR, it makes a great start/end point for a 2 day AT hike.

This+was+a+fantastic+camp+when+I+was+a+Scout+in+the+1970%27s%2e+++It+was+well+maitained+and+had+plenty+to+do%2e+++I+can%27t+wait+for+a+chance+to+get+back+there+and+check+it+out+again%2e%0d%0a

I+first+camped+here+in+1983%2e+I+thought+it+didn%27t+get+any+better+untill+I+served+on+staff+in+1986%2e+I+had+gone+to+this+camp+every+year+till+1987+and+enjoyed+every+visit%2e+The+times+we+spend+at+camp+generate+memories+we+keep+for+a+life+time%2e+I+am+now+a+Scoutmaster+in+So+Fla%2e+and+would+love+to+bring+my+boys+here%2e%0d%0a

Just+returned+from+Camp+Kittatinny+%28KMSR%29%28July+07%29%2e++From+an+adult+perspective%2c+the+camp+was+ill+prepared+to+recieve+our+large+group+of+Scouts+and+Adult+Scouters%2e++The+Camp+Staff+boasts+a+sign+%222006+Most+Improved+Camp%22+I+had+to+ask+myself+as+the+unit+leader%2c+most+improved+compared+to+what%3f++If+the+spectrum+is+zero+to+100%2c+most+improved+could+be+derived+by+hitting+a+10%2e++So+I+suppose+it+could+be+correct%2e%2e%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aThe+Youth+Staff+was+basically+clueless+as+to+where+things+were+and+who+was+in+charge+of+what+program+areas%2e+The+Merit+Badge+Couselors+disregarded+many+of+the+prerequisites+the+Scouts+brought+with+them+to+camp+for+merit+badge+sign%2doffs%2e++Although%2c+some%2c+not+many%2c+of+the+Staff+had+the+right+attitude+and+tried+as+they+might+to+correct+the+deficiencies%2e++Our+site+had+a+water+feature+%28Leaky+water+pipe+spraying%29during+the+entire+week%2c+and+when+we+told+the+staff+about+the+issue%2c+they+told+us+we+had+to+fill+out+some+report+to+get+it+fixed%2e+Totally+UNSAT%21%0d%0a%0d%0aThe+dining+facility+was+small+as+was+the+quantity%2e+The+taste+of+the+food+was+adequate+and+served+by+the+staff%2e++Although+they+never+served+seconds+until+the+Leaders+really+complained%2e+Also%2c+the+Staff+never+got+very+excited+about+the+meal+time+when+usually+the+kids+get+to+sing+songs+and+paticipate+in+some+sort+of+annimation+during+Breakfast%2c+Lunch%2c+and+Dinner%2e++Not+what+I+have+been+exposed+to%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aThe+Field+Uniform+%28Class+A%29+was+never+required+for+the+presentation+or+retirement+of+our+nations+colors%2e++They+never+did+the+pledge+of+allegiance+during+the+opening+colors+until+my+SPL+insisted+it+be+done+as+is+proper%2e++Good+on+him+for+calling+this+out+to+the+Staff%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aHeard+lots+of+negitive+comments+from+other+leaders%2c+not+sure+if+they+will+post+but+the+program+director+when+confronted+with+the+issues+had+a+very+hostile+and+begrudging+attitude+and+was+kind+of+rude%2e++Not+what+I+expected+from+the+District+and+Council+level+Scouters%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aAll+in+all%2c+I+can+not+recommend+this+camp+to+other+Scouts+and+Scouters%2c+as+much+as+I+would+like+to%2e++A+great+Summer+Camp+experience+can+keep+a+Scout+interested+in+Scouting+or+conversely+the+experience+can+turn+them+off+really+quickly+to+Scouting+in+general%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aRecommend+the+Central+New+Jersey+Council+Executives+and+Council+Camping+Committee+take+a+really+close+look+at+how+this+camp+is+being+run+and+correct+the+deficiencies+before+the+end+of+summer+to+prevent+any+others+from+having+a+bad+experience%2e%0d%0a

I+just+returned+from+a+week+at+the+Camp+as+an+Adult+Leader+and+have+a+few+comments%2e++First+off%2c+this+was+my+first+experience+at+a+BSA+Camp%2e++I+found+the+Camp+a+bit+run+down%2c+leaky+pipes%2c+dirty+restrooms+and+showers%2c+trails+not+well+maintained%2c+gutters+not+cleaned%2c+fire+pits+not+maintained%2c+tents+not+fitted+to+platforms%2c+and+tarps+not+properly+strung%2e++One+of+the+more+disturbing+comments+that+I+heard+was%2c+%22I+have+been+coming+here+for+ten+years+and+some+things+have+been+broken+for+that+long%22%2e++I+found+the+COPE+and+Mountain+Man+program+was+not+well+thought+out%2e++The+%22high%2dadventure+hike%22+was+a+2+miles+walk+down+a+road%2c+complete+with+cars%2c+when+the+AT+is+only+one+mile+away%2e++The+overnight+was+a+canoe+trip+100+yards+across+the+lake%2e++The+last+day+no+event+happened%2e++The+food+wasn%27t+bad+and+I+believe+the+chef+did+a+great+job+with+what+he+had+to+work+with%2e++Overall%2c+this+wasn%27t+a+terrible+experience+for+my+first+time%2c+but+listening+to+other+Leaders%2c+I%27d+have+to+rate+it+as+poor%2e++I+did+find+the+Adult+Camp+Staff+defensive%2c+but+they+did+try+to+make+a+few+improvements%3a+singing+at+meals+and+second+servings%2e++I+was+also+dismayed+at+the+lack+of+respect+at+Colors%2c+no+Class+As%2c+no+Pledge+or+Allegance%2c+and+horseplay%2e++I+think+this+Camp+has+potential%2c+but+needs+some+outside+oversight%2e%0d%0a

Sorry+to+hear+the+last+two+comments+about+KMSR%2e++I+attended+my+first+year+as+a+Scout+when+it+was+still+Camp+Sakawawin+and+then+throughout+the+70%27s+as+KMSR%2c+serving+on+Staff+for+several+years%2e++I+hope+the+Staff+and+those+responsible+take+these+notes+to+heart+if+they+are+representative+of+reality%2c+and+make+improvements+for+next+year%2e+KMSR+has+a+long+rich+tradition+in+Scouting+and+should+be+a+top+notch+camp+every+year%21%0d%0a

The+Central+New+Jersey+Council+has+dissolved%2e++Camp+is+currently+closed+but+plans+were+underway+to+revert+the+property+back+to+the+state+of+New+Jersey%2e++As+soon+as+we+learn+if+the+camp+is+once+again+open+for+group+camping+we+will+post+those+details+here%2e%0d%0a

There+have+been+no+posts+to+this+site+in+over+3+years+++The+camp+may+now+have+been+turned+over+to+the+the+State%2e++Seems+a+shame%2e++It+had+a+great+heritage%2e++I+attended+summer+camp+as+a+scout+in+1961+and+1962+and+then+was+on+the+staff+in+1963%2c+1966%2c+1967%2c+1968%2c+1970+and+1972%2c+spending+in+total%2c+more+than+1+year+of+my+life+there%2e++We+typically+had+200%2e+%2d+300+scouts+there+a+week%2c+for+8+weeks+each+summer%2e++We+touched+many+young+lives+that+truly+enjoyed+and+benefited+from+the+experience%2e++I+did+as+well%2e++There+was+a+full+time+ranger+residing+at+the+camp+year+round+and+the+Sakawawin+Lodge%2d+Order+of+the+Arrow+had+regular+work+weekends+to+maintain+the+camp%2e++That+was+a+long+time+ago+when+more+boys+were+actively+involved+in+the+movement%2e++Det+H%2e+Joks%2e+Contact+me+at+Jokslaw%40aol%2ecom%0d%0a
