he+Old+Kia+Kima+Preservation+Association+%28OKKPA%29+is+a+501%28c%293+non%2dprofit+youth+leadership+and+service+organization+formed+to+restore+the+former+Boy+Scout+summer+camp%2c+and+in+so+doing%2c+provide+facilities+to+qualified+youth+groups+so+they+can+experience+the+spirit+of+Old+Kia+Kima%2e%0d%0aOld+camp+Kia+Kima+traces+its+origins+back+to+1916%2c+just+six+short+years+after+William+D%2e+Boyce+brought+Boy+Scouting+to+this+country+on+Feb%2e+8%2c+1910%2e+The+main+campsite+was+situated+on+a+bluff+overlooking+a+pristine+riverfront+on+the+South+Fork+of+the+Spring+River%2c+in+Sharp+County%2c+Arkansas%2e+The+name+chosen+for+the+Scout+camp+was+Kia+Kima%2c+and+could+hardly+have+been+more+fitting%2e+Kia+Kima%2c+in+the+Chickasaw+Indian+native+language%2c+means+%22Nest+of+the+Eagles%22%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aOld+Kia+Kima+operated+%28excluding+war+years%29+as+a+Boy+Scout+summer+camp+for+47+years%2c+closing+in+1963%2e+For+the+next+31+years%2c+the+camp+was+in+a+state+of+abandonment+and+ruin+until+1996+when+Old+Kia+Kima+Preservation+Association%2c+Inc%2e+was+formed+with+the+mission+to+restore+the+camp%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aThe+former+camp+is+concentrated+in+a+small+corner+of+the+property%2c+fronting+on+the+South+Fork+of+the+Spring+River%2c+and+consists+of+16+native+stone+and+wood+cabins+as+well+as+a+number+of+other+buildings%2c+including+a+stone+and+timber+lodge%2e+Boyce+and+George+Billingsley+purchased+the+original+43+acres+that+was+the+core+of+Old+Kia+Kima+and+donated+it+to+OKKPA%2e+Since+then%2c+the+camp+buildings+have+undergone+extensive+restoration+after+having+been+unoccupied+and+not+maintained+for+over+35+years%2e+Although+several+projects+remain%2c+with+Restoration+near+completion%2c+Old+Kia+Kima+was+reopened+by+OKKPA+for+camping+in+the+Spring+of+2002%2e+In+April+2015+Old+Kia+Kima+was+named+as+an+Arkansas+Historical+site%2e%0d%0a
