The+site+of+Camp+Plymouth+was+at+one+time+thought+to+have+been+used+as+an+encampment+by+soldiers+of+the+Revolutionary+War+in+1777%2c+while+en+route+from+Rindge+and+Fort+Number+4+%28Charlestown%2c+New+Hampshire%29+to+the+Battle+of+Ticonderoga%2e+It+now+seems+that+the+encampment+was+about+two+miles+north+of+Camp+Plymouth%2e+The+Boy+Scouts+used+this+area+until+1984+when+it+became+a+state+park%2e%0d%0a%0d%0aMost+of+the+park+acreage+lies+on+the+east+side+of+Town+Highway+%2342%2e+In+this+area%2c+in+and+along+the+banks+of+Buffalo+Brook%2c+one+time+known+as+%22Gold+Brook%2c%22+gold+was+discovered%2e+This+was+in+1855+and+mining+operations+continued+for+some+30+years%2e%0d%0a%0d%0a%0d%0a
In+1925%2c+a+girls%92+summer+camp+was+established+here+and+operated+for+two+years%2e+++In+1927%2c+the+property+was+purchased+by+the+Boy+Scouts+of+America+and+turned+into+Camp+Plymouth%2c+for+which+the+park+is+named%2e+++At+its+height%2c+the+scout+camp+included+camping+sites+for+10+troops%2c+a+trading+post%2c+archery+range%2c+rifle+range%2c+water+front%2c+and+ceremonial+camp+fire+area%2e+++In+1984%2c+the+property+was+conserved+with+the+assistance+of+the+Ottauquechee+Land+Trust+and+conveyed+to+the+State+of+Vermont%2e++Park+facilities+were+constructed+over+the+next+few+years+and+Camp+Plymouth+State+Park+opened+to+the+public+in+1989%2e++%0d%0a
When+the+Boy+Scout+council+closed+Camp+Plymouth%2c+The+state+acquired+one+of+the+best+beaches+with+a+really+long+shallow+swimming+area+great+for+families%2e+the+walk+from+the+parking+area+is+a+little+long%2c+but+they+do+offer+wagons+to+carry+your+stuff%2e+The+bay+on+the+north+side+offers+good+paddle+boating+away+from+speed+boats+in+the+lake%2e+Plenty+of+camping+and+cabins+to+stay+the+weekend%2e+There+are+good+trails%2c+a+cemetery+and+old+roads+to+follow+if+you+get+bored%2e+Yes%2c+there+is+gold+in+the+stream%2c+but+you+got+to+know+what+you+are+doing%2e+Still+it+is+fun+to+try%2e%0d%0a
